The Danny Dietz memorial

By Michelle Malkin  •  July 4, 2007 05:51 PM

Remember the Navy SEAL memorial in Littleton, Colorado, which anti-gun zealots protested for its realism? It was dedicated today. Blogger and Internet coverage here, here, and here at Slapstick Politics–with comprehensive videos and pics.

Rolling Thunder was there. Reader Mark Thomas e-mails there wasn’t a dry eye in the crowd.

God bless and Bravo Zulu.

I was watching Fox and they were speaking of this dedication and said there was some controversy about it but never said what it was. Thanks for letting us know. As for the anti-gun lobby, well they must have been confused and thought it was a Memorial to Eric Harris & Dylan Klebold.

I think that the anti-gun and anti-war zealots also forget that this country wouldn’t even exist if not for the men and women who were willing to sacrifice their lives on a battlefield.

I’m about half way through a review copy of Lone Survivor. The only thing wrong with that statue is it isn’t big enough. SEALs are 10 feet tall. All of them.

There’s a great 4th of July letter from Gold Star Mother Debbie Lee posted at my place. Her son was the first SEAL KIA in Iraq amd Cindy Sheehag she ain’t.

I read the letter up at Bill’s place. It really is a great letter, and should be more widely read.I truly do believe that this President does carry the loss of every one of these brave men and women with him every day. We saw it in the horrible days right after 9-11, and through Debbie Lee’s letter we see it today.

I am on page 31 of “Lone Survivor”, can’t put it down!!!.
Also, I was little disappointed by a Fox News Channel lady reporter, her name escapes me now. Fox had a LIVE link from the unveiling area of the memorial. There were several sailors in their whites, Honor Guards, getting ready for the ceremony. The reporter commented about the events taking place, then said something about these people are getting ready for the ceremony…and she forgot their role. She turned around and ask the sailor, “What do you call yourself?”, trying to describe the sailor jobs there. I feel bad for that reporter.

I am so happy that the parents of Danny Dietz get to witness their son being honored and appreciated. I wondered what ever came of this story when it first hit the blogs. Danny is a hero. Danny gave all that he had — even his last breath here on earth. God bless his parents, and may they find some comfort in knowing that many of us are grateful and will never forget all that Danny gave to us.

Navy Seal Petty Officer Dietz may not have been a Marine, but I hope he would approve of this sentiment, the Creed of a United States Marine, as the best answer to the memorial critics. May he rest in peace knowing we cherish his memory.

    This is my rifle.

There are many like it, but this one is MINE.

My rifle is my best friend. It is my life.

I must master it as I must master my life.

My rifle without me is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless.

I must fire my rifle true.

I must shoot straighter than my enemy who is trying to kill me.

I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will…

My rifle and myself know that what counts in war is not the rounds we fire,
the noise of our bursts, nor the smoke we make.

We know it is the hits that count. We will hit…

My rifle is human, even as I, because it is my life.

Thus, I will learn it as a brother.

I will learn its weaknesses, its strengths, its parts, its accessories,
    its sights, and its barrel.

I will ever guard it against the ravages of weather and damage.

I will keep my rifle clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready.

We will become part of each other. We will…

Before God I swear this creed.

My rifle and myself are the defenders of my country.

We are the masters of our enemy.

We are the saviors of my life.

So be it, until there is no enemy, but PEACE.

    American Warrior!

What a wonderful, brave young man! God bless him, and may his soul rest in peace.

There are many young men and women facing the enemy on a daily basis. Standing firm around the world to protect you, and me, our families, and our way of life. May God bless and keep them, as well.

I pray their sacrifices are not spat upon by those weak minded, deranged lunatics in our midst, and in our government, who would rather surrender than fight.

Of course the Blackfive crew have followed the story of the terrible ambush that took Danny’s life, and several other of our best warriors.

These people are what we need more of, and quick. If you all remember, the Special Operations Command welcomed the Marine Corps to their ranks, so finally the Marines are part of the lead command for the GWOT. MARSOC

I need to get that book by the only survivor from that ambush. It’s a compelling story of how our warriors won’t leave anyone behind. These guys are the tip of the spear, let’s pray that spear stays real sharp.

Great……anit-gun nuts protesting yet another inanimate object! Its a war memorial statue! What do these people think goes on during war?????? They ain’t playing rock, paper, scissors. This guy was a Navy Seal……. I don’t think it would be an accurate representation of the price this man paid for freedom for him to be holding a bouquet of flowers! The left has truly lost their collective minds.

    As another poster has used a quote of great merit, may I post another: One that shows the intent of the spirit of true patriotism displayed by many in our Armed Services;

“The hour is fast approaching, on which the Honor and Success of this army, and the safety of our bleeding Country depend. Remember officers and Soldiers, that you are Freemen, fighting for the blessings of Liberty - that slavery will be your portion, and that of your posterity, if you do not acquit yourselves like men.”

“Anti-Gun Zealots” may have a problem with the memorial and that’s a shame. I honor those who have worn the uniform to stand up for our country.

I also have a problem with “Anti-Rule Zealots” who criticize those who want somecontrol over guns so when stress mixes with guns, incidents like THIS ONE don’t happen.

Bet this story doesn’t make it to MM’s desk. I really want to see her reaction to it. *shakes head*

And what rule, exactly, would have prevented this moron (or any other) from shooting “while stressed”?

There’s a big difference between these stories–one is a about a soldier who used weapons to fight and protect his fellow comrades, the other is about some lunatics ticked off by fireworks, and no doubt motivated with a little extra liquid courage.

He wasn’t a lunatic. He was a firefighter who had a permit for concealed carry. There have been no indication that he was under any influence of alcohol as it seems he was trying to keep the noise down for his kids to sleep. He just snapped it seems. So do we just say “well thats life,” and pretend this didn’t happen?

BTW, this topic is in reponse to people who want to call people anti-gun zealots. I do not support those who do not like the statue because it shows a gun. This is a NAVY SEAL. Those in uniform have every right to carry a firearm in defense of our freedom.

Dark Knight- If you are anti guns just come out and say so……… you don’t have to live in the closet and deny who you are to please us.

BTW your story you sighted THIS ONE is a pretty poor argument for gun control. I mean did you even read it? The third line states that, “A woman also was found stabbed to death”. So, was she stabbed to death by a gun or should we start infringing on people’s rights to own knives too! News Flash: Guns don’t kill people. They are inanimate objects!

“Those in uniform have every right to carry a firearm in defense of our freedom”.

Don’t you think we should run that by the UN before we jump to such extreme conclusions?? And are we sure that we should let them carry assault rifles and high caliber handguns?? I mean there has to be certain reasonable restrictions in place, right? Thats what the founding fathers had in mind.
