Zawahiri’s new fireside chat
Update: Here’s the video link.
Ayman al-Zawahiri, the head al Qaeda doctor, has a new videotape out calling on Muslims to unite in–what else?–jihad:
Al-Qaeda’s No. 2 has issued a new video tape calling on Muslims to unite in jihad, or holy war, and support the Islamist movement in Iraq, a U.S.-based intelligence monitoring group said Wednesday.
Ayman al-Zawahri is seen in the one-hour and 35 minutes tape dressed in white and addressing topics from Iraq to Saudi Arabia, the Palestinian territories and Egypt, said the U.S.-based SITE intelligence group, which monitors al-Qaeda messages.
The group said it had obtained the tape ahead of its release on the Internet by militant web sites, and issued a transcript of al-Zawahri’s remarks. The authenticity of the transcript could not be immediately verified.
In the tape, al-Zawahri encouraged Iraqis and Muslims in general to show greater support for the Islamic State of Iraq, an al-Qaeda insurgent front in the country, even though it lacks “necessary qualifications”, the SITE group quoted al-Zawahri as saying.
“The first thing which our beloved brothers in Iraq must realize is the critical nature of unity,” al-Zawahri was quoted as saying in the tape’s transcript released by SITE.
An Internet site deemed close to al-Qaeda’s leadership announced earlier Wednesday that “good news” would be coming soon.
SITE notes that Zawahiri quotes from Bob Woodward’s book and a PBS documentary in a broadside against Saudi Arabia, and lauds the jihadis use of the Internet. Interestingly, there is no mention of the most recent jihadi attempts in London and Glasgow. They must be in the studio cutting that one now.

Islam~~~~~~>The religion of peace!
He urges Muslims to support the Islamic State of Iraq, saying:
““Rejoice, for victory is near, with Allah’s permission, and the herds of crusaders have begun to split up and their sole concern has become searching for a way out.”
Sounds like a Democratic party campaign commercial. Maybe they could hire Zawahiri to lend “authenticity” to their message of abandoning Iraq.
Digusting that Bush let these people off the hook to focus on a personal/neocon/Evangelical crusade against Saddam, Abu-quagmire, the father of all quagmires, the neocon Roach Motel–neocons check in and they can’t check out again.
Poor misunderstood muslims !
yah, alphonse, oooooooookay….
Re: Zawacreepy
Is anyone seeing a pattern here? Are we due, or overdue, for another big one? Thank God we have Chertoff to protect us…///sarcasm….
Zawahiri’s messages are often signals to sleeper cells to take action. We need to be especially vigilant in the coming days and weeks.
In a quote from CAIR “don’t take this out of context. When he says Jihad he means personal struggle”. /sarc
This part sounds like he is concerned with the recent tribal sheikhs turning against al qaeda.
Fireside chat. I’m all for fire by his side.
The Neo Cons wanted a footprint in Iraq and they got it, where did Haliburton move it’s headquarters to? The center of gravity. Look I believe we got in front of something in Iraq, I think we headed something off…we bought ourselves some time. This Administration has many of it’s supporters wanting this and that, they all have their own agendas. We can’t undue anything, we are hip deep in it, I only see forward as the way out.
When I look at what has happened in the Middle East, I look at it this way: I don’t see countrys or lines on a map, I see territory and factions. There are 3 major factions Sunni, Shia and Kurds. The Sunni’s strong man Saddam got taken down, he isn’t the bully in the neighborhood anymore, then you have the rise of the Shia. This effectively shifted the power in the region from Sunni to Shia. It wasn’t Shia or Persians that attacked us on 9-11. From my own perspective, I believe the foreign policy was to shift the power in the region. Now Iran is beating it’s chest, I believe we will be able to contain Iran, they will go back into the box. I don’t believe we are going to decapitate or neuter Iran, we will be the keepers of the gate. With the warning to the Sunni factions, try it again and we open the gate no more games. This re establishes a different dynamic in the Middle East, a different balance.
There are Countrys in the region that don’t appreciate the status quo changing. I can’t remember the date but I think it was last month, the Saudi Arabian Govt a Sunni Govt, forgave something like 85% of The New Iraqi Govt’s debt, a predominently Shia Govt…how did we get them to do that?
The terrorist have their own agendas. The best I can figure, they are trying and succeeding in spreading their “Death Cult” Check out Pakistan the last couple of days 700 gave up the ones that won’t come out, want to Martyr themselves. Isn’t Pakistan where everyone believes these people are hiding out?
Today, Zawahiri uses quotes from Bob Woodward, tomorrow he will call into Hard Ball with Chris “I didn’t read the book” Mathews to ask Ann Coulter to stop being so mean.

I think Zawahri’s turban is wrapped too tight, but then again, it probably keeps his pea-sized brain from falling out.
Gawd…Laree…puleeeeeze…parents tell their children to be good or the boogie man will be them…progressives use term “NEO CON” to scare the uninformed. WHAT THE HELL IS A NEO CON?…Someone that just woke up and decided he was a reinvented conservative? a Liberal that finally thought for himself/herself? Someone waking up after 20 years in a coma and sees what the liberals look like today?…what?…I don’t disagree with some of what you said above, but what the heck was your point?..and what did Haliburton have to do with anything?..I’m just a dumb “old con”, make it clear for me…
The Islamic terrorists, in this tape and in other ones, brag about defeating America everywhere: “in Afghanistan, in Iraq, in Somalia and soon in Palestine.”
So, are we going to be smart enough and confirm their threats and messages of “victory” by retreating, withdrawing, and surrendering?
The answer is: YES.
Because here in America and in Europe, there are people in government who believe that the only way to protect their homeland is by being nice, understanding, and sensitive to the terrorists (nations or groups), assuming that the Islamic terrorists (sorry, the “freedom fighters”) will treat them well in return.
Treat them well in return…Ya Right!
I guess nobody’s learning from History, even from very recent History…like a week ago?
So, let’s do what you do best: Hide our heads in the sand and pray that no “freedom fighters” will blow our butts off.
I didn’t coin the term Neo Con, so don’t take it out on me…I am not a Republican, I am an Independent. The reason everyone uses, for us getting Attacked, is our Foreign Policy. If you don’t get my point, don’t waste your time reading my comment. If all Conservatives are the same then why was there a split on the Amnesty Bill?
Haliburton operates or did operate, in Iran. I know this because I have a GE Bond, that shows the investment. There is Oil in Iraq and Iran. Haliburton has been operating inside of Iraq. Haliburton has moved it’s headquarters to Quatar, Why? This is called Petrol Politics for a reason. I am saying our economy is based on this right now Oil because of our consumption and the only way to get out of Iraq is forward…we have to protect the Oil Supply. I don’t think for one minute that the Countrys in the Middle East, like our Presence in Iraq- Our FootPrint, and who was pushing Iraqi Freedom, one was Paul Wolfowitz- referred to as a Neo Con. I just don’t see that we have any choice in Iraq, the only option I see is forward. I was responding to post 3# who was also using the term Neo Con but you didn’t respond to 3# using the term?
Hey, I didn’t coin the phrase murder either, but I bet the police will want to arrest me if I commit one!…and I’ll take #3 to task at another time. I only try to piss off one person at a time, makes the words in your original posting, but I didn’t understand your point. As we all know, you should communicate to the level of your audience. Evidently, I am at a lower level and not elevated to your independent intellect, and I thank you for making it much clearer in your second posting. I guess you think we can’t pull out of Iraq?…I agree, we must move forward….and then you seem to have an issue with Haliburton?..don’t know why, they are a great part of our military industrial complex…who else would you like to see making that money? …Russia?…France?…why not us…and my last comment, if we were doing all this for oil, why aren’t we just taking the oil either for free or at a huge discount and telling Iraq/Iran/Saudi to piss up rope?

Petrol Politics, how do you think our Oil based economy is working out for us? I am not against us protecting OUR economy = Oil, when people say we did this all for Oil, I believe they are missing the bigger point- we don’t have a choice. As far as Haliburton goes it isn’t perfect, what is so American about non bid contracts? I am an American so obviously I want us to prosper this reference to your France and Russia comment.
My husband and other family members are in the military, we were drawn down in the 1990s, remember it started with Bush 41 and then the Clinton administration, this is what you are supposed to do during Peace Time, draw down but not Gut the Military. After Somalia, my brother in law turned to me and said, we are not going to be at Readiness. He said, with in ten years there is going to be an event and we are going to have to play catch up..well it was sooner then ten years 2001. The good news, no one plays catch up like the USA. We don’t have the size of US Military to back up telling Iraq/Iran/Saudi Arabia to piss up a rope.
For the record I didn’t make any references to your intellect or it wanting.
Rick Moran – “Sounds like a Democratic party campaign commercial. Maybe they could hire Zawahiri to lend “authenticity” to their message of abandoning Iraq.
What are we suppose to be now, the Iraqi Islamic Shiites and the Iraqi Islamic Sunnis eternal earth mother?
Laree, Personally, I think our OIL based economy is working out fine. Now, I don’t think we should sit and wait to fail, but currently, our economy is doing real well. I hate to tell you, but “no bid” contracts have been around since the government developed an acquisition policy. I was in the service for 27 years, and some of those years were in acquisition (only a few, thank God)…There are MANY no bid contracts around, for various reasons. One reason would be speed..another competancy in a certain area (say there’s only one brain surgeon, he gets the contract for brain surgery), some for disadvantages businesses (we call them 8A’s), but I got to tell you, not many companies can compete with Haliburton as to the huge efforts that were required in the beginning of the Iraq war. Trust me, plenty of defense industry companies are over in Iraq using both no bid and bid contracts. I agree about keeping up our military, but I must disagree with you about us not being able to back up our policy with regard to IRAN/SAUDI etc… We just can’t send in troops to be peace keepers or marshalls.
We just need to pull out of the U.N., form a new support organization for democracies, then do what’s best for the economies of said democracies, and let the rest go to hell. Without the vast amounts of money and “western” goods supplied by democracies to despot regimes through the U.N., these others would collapse and fester in their own filth and misery in short order.
They may cut off our oil for a time, but without food and fuel refined from said oil, it wouldn’t be long before the people start wondering if follwing a thug like Hugo or Ahmadinijad into abject poverty was such a good idea. And that maybe the west isn’t as bad as they were told.

The pockets of the Clerics in Iran and Chavez in Venezula are being swollen from Oil Revenue. No I don’t think an Oil Based economy is the best..and yes our Economy is doing well right now, what happens when there is a Crisis? What happens if this character, the subject at the head of this thread gets lucky? 9-11 had wide repercussions, one is also what happens to our Economy.
There are no easy answers to Iraq but the way out is not to retreat, my husband has said, we can fight them now or we can fight them in 10 years, we will end up fighting. My husband has said, take your wallet out, look at your kids and your grandkids, do you want them fighting in 10 years..he is a solider, he perfers that we finish what we started.
I don’t see any Political Will in our country to do what you suggest in regard to Iraq/Iran/Saudi Arabia. Where is our leverage?
I do think it is disingenous of the Dems running for President to pretend they are going to do anything different in Iraq. I think when John Edwards, suggest that The War On Terror, is a bumper sticker slogan, is just stupid.
Is there an update, any remarks from leading Dems on this latest remark by this Egyptian Doctor? I hate to give this “Guy” anymore attention then necessary it is after all what he wants.
I will murder you Infidel!
From: Osama’s best friend, Dr. A.
There, now you do not have to see the tape.
ROPMA!
All true conservatives are the same on this issue. The McCains, the Grahams, and the Lotts are RINOs and Moderates.
Well, your own OSHA is gonna contribute to the jihad by making it impossible for you to get ammo for your firearms. IOW, if the regulations go thru you’re gonna be truly DEFENSELESS. Good Luck Americans..,
