NAACP targets mayor for telling the truth

By Michelle Malkin  •  July 12, 2007 04:32 PM

Fresh off their national convention, the race hustlers of the NAACP are trying to claim a scalp. The target: Charlotte, NC’s mayor, Pat McCrory (who is white). What did he say? Read: (Hat tip - reader Bill S.):

The NAACP wants Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory to apologize for remarks he made about African American youth after last week’s arrests during Fourth of July festivities in uptown.

Ken White, president of the Charlotte Branch of the NAACP, on Wednesday called the mayor’s comments “insensitive” and said he’s concerned they painted “African American youth with a broad swath that cuts deep in many of our communities.”

McCrory’s comments came July 5 in a letter to the city manager congratulating police on their efforts the night before, when 169 people were arrested in uptown. McCrory also wrote that “too many of our youth, primarily African American, are imitating and/or participating in a gangster type of dress, attitude, behavior and action.”

The NAACP has demanded an apology. Against a backdrop of black gang violence and recent arrests in the city, Mayor McCrory refuses to back down:

McCrory has said he did not mean that only African American youth were imitating gangs. But he said he specified them because that’s who he saw as he walked uptown streets during the celebration.

On Wednesday, he cited statistics showing more than 60 percent of Charlotte’s gang members are African American. And, he said, the victims of gang violence also tend to be black.

“One thing we agree on is that it is a horrible stereotype,” McCrory said, “but it’s being perpetuated by those who continue to dress like, behave like and act like gang members. It’s not productive to our community, our neighborhoods, our schools, or to those individuals who are doing it.”

Michael Kraft at the Charlotte Conservative blogs: “We are still awaiting the press conference from the NAACP where they do something, anything to help the entire community rid themselves of the problems downtown.”

Now it’s “insensitive” to tell the truth?

Well, let’s point out insensitivity by NAACP race-hustlers:

Two officers were shot by three black men here in NYC. One officer is in critical/grave condition and is paralyzed. He’s now on life support. The other is recovering.

This was a similar situation to the tragic events that took place when a black man was killed by police officers who approached his car outside a strip club (the individuals in the car made suspicious movements and began to flee, creating an ensuing fire-fight that left a groom to be dead). Al Sharpton led a march down the street in an effort to rally the black community against police officers.

    See any coincidence here?

Also, I didn’t see Al Sharpton in NYC this week asking the black community to help find the suspects as the fled and to bring them to justice.

Sharpton and fellow race hustlers should be held accountable for the hostile feelings toward police officers that they helped ingrain in the minds of blacks here in NYC.

I also don’t see the NAACP in Newark condeming the behavior of it’s former mayor who was indicted today.

To change these terrible statistics, you first need to get rid of the Jesse Jacksons and the Al Sharptons and the NAACP type organizations. Keeping race in the headlines is not the way and having an entire race as “protected” and needing to be taken care of…that is not the way either. Can’t we all just get along?

According to Democratic Presidential candidate Gravel this is because of the war on drugs, which is “biased towards blacks”. He, consequently, wants to end the war on drugs when he becomes president (dreaming) and let all of the drug dealers out of prison.

It may be a tall tale, by my dad (who was a career Probation Officer in Cali) once told me about a proposed plan by the Los Angeles PD to give shooting lessons to L.A. area gangsters. The idea was, that innocents were being killed in drive-bys, and that by training the gangsters to shoot, they’d actually hit each other for a change. . .resulting in fewer gangsters.

Of course, in the end, groups such as the NAACP found out and squashed the idea with a quickness.

The race card only has value if people let it have value. At some point the black community is going to have to address the problems in their community and take appropriate actions to correct them instead of looking for sympathy and living off of victimhood. It’s called growing up. If you have an issue, you own up to it and fix it. You don’t blame someone else for your shortfalls. That’s toddler mentality. It just kills me how, in this case, they were more outraged by the mayor’s comments than they were with the behaviour of the members of their community. Talk about not being able to see the forest for the trees.
