Friday night photo-blogging

By Michelle Malkin  •  July 13, 2007 11:45 PM

TGIF! I took off tonight from O’Reilly. Am scheduled to do the regular segment on Monday and guest-host next Friday. While subbing during the July 4th holiday week, I did the tourist thing in NYC. Posted a few of the photos on the Hot Air Flickr site. Ground Zero was moving and maddening. No one should tour NYC without a visit there.

On a lighter note, some of my faves from Madam Tussaud’s, Wall Street, and Times Square:

And here are a few more photos from the summer season: steaks (grilled to perfection by my Hot Air colleague Bryan Preston), crayfish, and rock-climbing (yes, despite my fear of heights). Hope you are taking time out from work and politics to recreate when you can.

Michelle, glad to see you take time off and have some fun. I often wonder if you have trouble sleeping at night or turning your mind off after dealing with all the frustrating subjects you tackle.

That’s a scary wax figure you’re standing next too. It just might give me nightmares!

If you ever find yourself losing interest in politics – please, oh please, do write a journal/book of how you stay so slim! Questioned why you didn’t fill in for the “O’R” tonight. You are forgiven knowing you had a great steak and a few mudbugs. We won’t go into pulling tails and the other disgusting ritual of…never mind! Love the little critters however.

I went to Ground zero in December of 2003.

I am not a spiritual person by any means, but there is a feeling you get at that place that is hard to explain.

What I remember the most is all of the various shrines around that spot and all of the things that people left there.

Are all of the mementos that people left around the site still there?

It was a very humbling experience.

    I took lots of pictures.

    Michelle,

Down here in Texas and Louisiana crawfish are a staple. You cook them up in cayenne pepper with corn on the cob and potatoes and then wash them down with the obligatory beer or two and it seems like you are only a couple of steps away from heaven. You are so right that you have to take the time to recreate. If you don’t, you will certainly just burn out. Keep on fighting the good fight.

Hi, Michelle. Fun pics. That’s true about 9-11: you can’t appreciate the wound that was inflicted until you see the enormity of the place. The skyline was set back 50 years, and while that might seem to be a superficial aesthetic statement, progress is fueled by inspiration, and the terrorists want to drain that, too, the bastards.

Thanks for the shot of what looks like Times Square (around 40th street facing north?) To see it now, you could never guess what a dark, dangerous place it was in the early 80’s when I was a commuting student and Dinkins The Impudent was Mayor. The transformation from dark, porno-filled slum to technological wonderland is, to my mind, the clearest illustration of what Rudy can do for this country. (sorry for the political pitch, but, ya know, I was there at the time!) I’m not sure anyone has ever done such a thing – so dramatically – in American history ever. And the same tired chorus was doing the same tired routine back then: “it’s impossible”, “porno should flourish there – along with the crime and lack of mainstream foot traffic – for 1st Amendment rights” bla bla bla. People have forgotten what a miracle worker “America’s Mayor” really is. No joke. He may not be ideal on abortion, but at least more women will live to make the choice thanks to that guy.

You, of course, are very pretty. But whenever I see the change and how it is now, well, the effect is almost as pretty. You nearly make me wish I was commuting again. Well, maybe not quite – commuting is hell! Anyway, thanks!

PS: Dan Rather has never looked livlier. I assume that’s Madam Tusseud’s. They really do brilliant work – you can almost hear Rather making up stories to feed is world-view mindset!

Thanks for the photo updates. I’ll be up in NYC next month with customers. I haven’t taken time to tour since forever! Years ago, we had lunch at Fraunces Tavern , so, in addition to taking your advise to visit Ground Zero, I’m going to make reservations for diner at Fraunces! (This is the tavern George Washington delivered his farewell speech to the Continental Army).

Nice pics Michelle. I wonder if the wax museum should have a certain 1973-vintage typewriter next to GungaDan in that exhibit, so everyone can try to create TANG memos for their own amusement. A wax figure of Bill Burkett hyperventilating at Dan would make it more complete:)

As to the crawfish, they are a tasty treat when done right. Crawfish are miniature freshwater lobsters. Long ago in Thibadeaux, LA my dad catered a snazzy event with lots of seafood. There were pounds of crawfish, and a huge lobster for static display we got to take home afterwards.

When you hold a crawfish in one hand, and a big red lobster in the other, they are identical. Size and color are the only difference.
So if someone else can de-head and peel the little guys where all you get is the tail, they are really fresh water mini lobster tails.

That’s not as gross as having to process them one at a time after they are served to you cajun style. I never had any use for anything but the tail. You can get pre-peeled crawfish tails frozen from most grocers, although the farther from the gulf you get the price goes up.

Next thing you know, some cajun lib will have photoshopped pictures of you loving crawfish. You darn rightwing hippocrits!:)

Enjoy your summertime, Michelle and I look forward to seeing you on the Factor.

We’re all glad “The Boss” gets occasional R&R. As Katie above remarked, makes you wonder how she turns her mind off after a day’s swimming in all the liberal sewage that flows down the “information highway”, especially these days. Gotta keep her fresh and refreshed to take over O’Reilly’s gig one of these days. Might have to get satellite feed out here in the sticks, then. Or convince Fox to do live streaming on their site! Peaceful weekend to Michelle & all who visit here.

Great Flag pic. You should be doing tourist stuff with all of your travels, at least a little each time.

Ground Zero is a place that stays with you, even after you’ve left.
Kinda like a fragrance or an odor that stays in your clothes, but this is something so different.
You can’t tell if its good or bad maybe because it’s both. The good people that died there & the evil that collided there, but it stays with you.
I don’t know if that makes sense to any others that have been there.

You really should not do the fingers thing to Dan Rather’s statue, Michelle… don’t cheapen the brand – someday they are going to have a statue of you there, and Dan’s will be slowly melting in the closet!!

And the HQs of the alphabet networks will be up for lease, and the preponderance of Iraq veterans in the US Congress will mean that terrorists will live in fear of antagonizing it. This will come to pass because of so many who are inspired by women like you!

I am absolutely serious and sincere in this, Michelle.

If you want to see what they’re REALLY good for, next spring, take the family down to Louisiana for the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival. They’ll boil ‘em, grill ‘em, fry ‘em, and sautee ‘em.

Good to see you get some time for fun. I could use some of that. Come to think of it, I hear the Atchafalaya calling!
