The left-wing blogs are reporting that Harry Reid has moved to force the Senate into an all-night session Tuesday over the Iraq war. Stand by for details…

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has threatened to keep the Senate awake all night Tuesday to protest GOP blocking tactics on moves to compel U.S. troop withdrawals from Iraq.
Senate Republican leaders, alerted to Reid’s plans on Monday, said they have the votes to keep the president’s surge policy in place, at least for now, and called Reid’s up-all-night gambit a stunt that wouldn’t change any minds.
Senior Democratic leadershp aides said that Reid was planning a Tuesday all-nighter — complete with roll-away beds — to draw public attention to GOP demands that any changes to Iraq policy carry a 60-vote majority.
“Is this a publicity stunt? Yes,” a senior Democratic aide told FOX News. “This is the only way we know to highlight their complete ignorance of the will of the people!”

What gets me is that when the Republicans were in power,and things didn’t go their way, they just rolled over and played dead.
Irrelevance is a bitter pill to swallow, and can lead to meaningless irrational behavior in order to gain attention. However the thought of Reid and Clinton in their jammies in the Senate makes me want to hurl.

Well, look on the bright side: A sleep-deprived Congress will accomplish no less than they do fully awake.
What a bunch of whiny children. “Boo hoo! Bush won’t let us have our way so we’re going to stay up all night!” This kind of reminds me of my younger cousin - when was four and she didn’t get her way, she’d throw a tantrum and hold her breath until she literally turned blue.
I’m betting, however, this Democratic all-nighter goes the same way as Cindy Sheehan’s supposed “fast”…
Republicans have been filibustering almost everything in the Senate. While they have a right to do that, the MSM and the American people should know what’s going on, as they did when the Democratic minority was blocking Bush judicial appointments.
There would be no need for this ploy if the MSM only would report a Republican filibuster as they reported Democratic ones.
Everything Reid & Assoc’s do is a publicity stunt. God forbid that we actually do something legislatively thay benefits the American people. Thankfully their ‘ratings’ are dropping fast. I am really looking forward to our next elections and I hope the rest of you are. I believe this is the Democrats demise.

When the GOP was in the majority they did the exact same thing over judicial nominations. It was a publicity stunt then and it’s a publicity stunt now. The Dems need to appear like they’re doing everything possible to start the Iraq pull-out before the 2008 elections. It’s totally political and inconsequential. Unfortunately, that’s how the Legislature works these days.

Given that this Congress has been sleeping on the job since their first day on the job in January, why should Tuesday be any different.
If it’s Tuesday, it must be Belgium, which makes sense given that Brussels is the heart of Europe, which the democrats think we are living in.
All I know is if I was holding a slumber party, I would make sure the girls were tucked away before Ted Kennedy got there. Perhaps he can tell ghost stories about cars and bridges.
Lastly, a basic math lesson. Any number multiplied by zero is equal to zero. Therefore, 14 huors times nothing accomplished is the same as 8 hours times nothing accomplished. Either way it comes out to zero. Zero is higher than a negative number, so this congress accomplishing nothing is still better than actually doing things and making things worse.

Reid acts like the dems won a landslide. The sweeping “will of the people” was only represented by a relative handful voters in PA and other states that tossed out their republican senators. Everyone else pretty much stayed put.

I will tell you what is absolutely pathetically ironic about this.
Yeah, Reid is a grandstanding moron with the brains of a marmoset and the ethics of a hamstser. But this all nighter he’s planning proves a very important point.
Iraqi legislators are taking the month of August off because they say it is too hot. Meanwhile our boys are humping 40 pounds of equipment, body armor, and helmet in that same heat just to give those same legislators the time and breathing room to craft some laws that would make Iraq into a truly multi-sectarian society.
And now, even our legislators are burning the midnight oil in order to keep the Democrats from putting the Iraqi government out of business.

President Bush correctly pointed out the miniscule nature of that vote and noted it was only of meaning as a “cumulative effect”. Even with that, due their demands that America surrender to Al Qaeda in Iraq and other goofy notions, the Dems have managed to push their approval rating down 11 points in just two months time while, concurrently & conversely, Americans give President Bush higher approval ratings.
Pleeeeeeeeeease…let’s not insult the marmosets and the hamsters by comparing them to Democrats…Vegas should put odds out on what will be “accomplished” on this little sleepover…I could use the $$$

He is wrapping el Presidente’s increasingly unpopular Iraqi tarbaby around the Republican party’s neck and pulling the rope in tight.
If he keeps being such an idiot and el Presidente keeps on being el Presidente, I fear that we will have President HildaBeast™ and even bigger democrat majorities in congress. The four Supreme Court justices who are conservative better live a long time as they might well then be all we get for a long time.
The majority of our actions with this surge is dealing with pissed-off Iraqis. They are pissed off because their government is dysfunctional. This government has been a sovereign government since June 2004.
Specifically it is the Shia and Sunni sects of Islam which continue their 1000 year old dispute that our forces spend the majority of their time handling in this surge. Now we are having to contingency plan for the 140,000 massed Turk troops on the northern border against reprisal attacks on the Kurds.
AQ is the threat to America. We need to refocus our efforts on capturing and destroying AQ, not continue bogged down in internal Iraqi matters.
Gen Pace should focus our armed forces against AQ, not nation building in Iraq.

Your point immediately following my previous point stands scrutiny only because the MSM will not put this into perspective for the masses. As I have always said and will continue to say every day until there is enough of an outcry - if there is ever an outcry - this is why conservatives need to battle the MSM. Phone calls, e-mails and letters to sponsors have can have a devistating effect; people who live well off commercial enterprises rarely put political idealism before creature comforts (one can always find several examples that break the steriotype, but a few out of millions doesn’t mean much)
However, this hasn’t gotten alot of play on the MSM either, it seems, and for good reason - this time, it’s a little too silly.
With the greatest respect I submit to you that Mr. Felonious Reid’s behavior may not have the propoganda consequences he quite envisions, and certainly shall be less likely so to do if we keep our voices well-tuned on this issue to the upper registers of the musical spectrum.

Look, gang… There’s a reason Congress has a lower polling than does the President. It’s my view that they completely misunderstand the reasoning behind it. It’s because the leftist what go fringe is driving the country’s politics, rather it is the American people reacting to the democrats and their cowardly “cut and run” strategy.
As a result of this, and since the republican members are now predicting that it’s going to fall well short of 60 votes, I make a suggestion;
Let’s let the Democrats hang themselves on this one. Let’s let them generate as much publicity as possible. my read is that the republicans … and for that matter the country as a whole … can only benefit from the exposure of the democrats and their cowardly ways. In the end, Americans abhor running away, as the Democrats are now trying to get us to do. allowing the democrats to call all the attention they can to that cut and run policy, can only hurt them in the end.
They want the rope around their neck? Fine. I say give it to them.
It is interesting the Sen Reid is filibustering his own bill. All night sessions are a filibuster after all. In the realm of modern politics physical filibusters are rare.
I predict the Dem’s will give up before the Repub’s. After all the Dem’s have no core beliefs. All the Dems will go home to sleep, and all that will be left will be Repub’s. LOL
