Geraldo Rivera’s breathless tease
Update 9/1: Geraldo Rivera is insane and unhinged. He has threatened to spit on me.
If you want ignorant ranting about immigration and the Zina Linnik case, go watch Geraldo Rivera (thanks to readers for e-mailing me about it over the weekend and AP for clipping the vid). Utterly shameless. Geraldo teased his Saturday night segment on the case by claiming that Zina’s uncle, Anatoly Kalchik, would argue that Zina’s accused murderer should be called a “monster” instead of an “immigrant:”
GERALDO: The tragic story was twisted to aggravate the immigration debate… A little girl snatched and brutally murdered. Tonight her family speaks out on why his “immigrant” label should be replaced by “monster.”
The only thing twisted, though, was Geraldo’s big tease. Mr. Kalchick did not say what Geraldo said he would say. Geraldo didn’t even ask him about the immigration angle in the interview that aired.
Why not?
Perhaps because Mr. Kalchick would have told Geraldo what he told the Seattle Post-Intelligencer (noted in my post yesterday):
…Zina’s uncle was angry that the suspect had not been deported after being convicted in a sex crime.
“We are all immigrants, but we come legally,” Kalchik said of his family. He added that the adults all cleared a criminal background check.
“If someone is a sex offender, or any kind of offender, he has no business being in America,” he said.
After failing to deliver on his breathless tease, Geraldo instead directed his vitriol at…me:
GERALDO: At this point, I have to point out how in my view, this awful case was distorted by anti-immigrant radicals like Michelle Malkin to make a cheap point. Michelle said that this tragedy was the result of our open borders policy, that allows creeps like this guy to sneak in. In fact, it has nothing to do with our borders, open or otherwise. This alleged perpetrator, as far as I know, is a US Army veteran, the stepson of another Army veteran, and he’s not being–he’s being held by INS, but that’s only pending other charges filed against him–charges like failing to register as a sex offender. You know, I wonder how long we’re going to have to wait for an apology on this one.
How about an apology for exploiting and misrepresenting Zina’s uncle? How about an apology for putting words in his mouth and the mouths of the Linnik family? How about an apology for erroneously claiming that Terapon Adhahn was a naturalized American citizen? How about an apology for misleading Fox News viewers about Adhahn’s immigration detention and withholding vital information about the systemic, long-standing failures of the government at all levels to deport criminal aliens?
This case and its ramifications have everything to do with open borders. Clue: “Open borders” is a metaphor for the willful, malign neglect of the entire immigration and entrance system–not just at the physical borders, but on the interior, at our consular offices abroad, on the immigration services side, throughout the investigations and enforcement bureaucracies, and in the detention and deportation offices.
But with clueless Geraldo, the immigration debate is always and only about one border–the southern border. It’s only about one kind of immigrant: Hispanic illegal aliens. And it’s all about one cheap set of talking points: All illegal aliens are hard-working angels, all ICE agents are jack-booted thugs, and everyone who believes in enforcing immigration laws is an “anti-immigrant radical.”
Remember: Geraldo’s so over the cliff, his answer to whether any criminal aliens should ever be deported was a blubbering digression about John Lennon.
Geraldo is worse than worthless. So I won’t waste another word. There’s too much work to do.
As they say on TV: Stay tuned.

Wow! I guess Michelle isn’t going to be having a cup of java in the breakroom with Geraldo anytime soon.
What a tool, that guy is. And Fox should probably have a real debate between those two on this and other immigration issues.
I wonder who would come off looking like a “radical” and who would be seen as reasonable.
No brainer…
Actually, there is a perfect spot on Fox for Geraldo. He could join the other morons on Red Eye.
There is too much emphasis on emotional topics and not enough on topics that really have an impact on every American. Can anyone here tell me how Anna Nichol Smith’s Drug Death or Paris Hilton in Jail actually affected their life? – yet we were besieged for weeks by breaking news. The networks, including Fox News, are moving left because they are appealing more and more to emotional silliness rather than serious thought.
By the way, here is a website that might actually have some practical use regarding the potential for terrorism around the world. It is http://www.globalincidentmap.com/home.php
Ms. Malkin,
Next you will probably have the audacity to claim that Geraldo’s special on Al Capone’s vaults was a failure. Oh, wait a minute, it was. Never mind.

Publius,
I agree with every word you said. We cannot win the War on Terror until we get away and defeat the “War Against Nonsense.”

It is difficult to deal with real world issues when my television set is filled with irrelevancies.
Unless Geraldo or any other television celebrity is interviewing General David Petraeus, chances are the interview is pointless.

Fox has become the National Enquirer of TV. Ergo, Geraldo fits perfectly. I eagerly await his special on “Space Alien Ate My Burger!” and Geraldo’s tearful defense of the right of job-seeking visitors from other planets to consume our tasty (non-human) carbon-based, trans-fat-free food products.
It would have been poetic justice if the hidden “locker of Al Capone” had connected to a tunnel across the Canadian border.
Thanks, Longbow, for the addresses. Let’s all tell Fox that we switch channels or “mute” when Rivera comes on because he’s such a pandering liar.
Michelle, don’t let him get to you.
Shouldnt this idiot be in jail for giving away the position of US troops which got him bounced from the embeds?
Its been said before, but hes as empty as Al Capones vault.
Send your comments about Geraldo to FOX News at:
YourComments@foxnews.com
He has let his racism overwhelm his self control and has absolutely no credibility on the immigration issue.
He is an embarrassment to FOX and is costing them viewers.
Geraldildo was there for the liberal viewers. But now Shep (wayleft) Smith has taken that spot.
Geraldildo is on Fox for {some of} the Hispanic viewers, the pro-illegal alien Hispanics, not the good ones.
Fox made a bad business move to allow him to continue his hate rage this year, but they feared the simple fact that amnesty might have passed. Then they would be geniuses and doubled their viewers in 6 years. But it FAILED as did Geraldone.
With shamnesty gone, so should Geraldildo be gone, forever.
Worthless is exactly what he is to America and Americans.
Why would fox’s rating increase when that dullard whorealdo is on lying and over talking others? Doesn’t do msnbc or cnn much good, near as i can tell.
I think I agree. What good can come of it for you Michelle? It most assuredly wont go as you envision it to go, altho you might be able to pre-set some ‘guidelines’ or time limits to follow.
But it might end up just the same as arguing with a blabbering & obliterated drunkard.
Geraldo reminds me of just that, a wasted drunk refusing to listen to all reason.
Michelle, I’m in the camp with Geraldo and not using this to exploit the immigration problem. But I’m in your camp for border defense. We do need borders, but not an expensive wall. He should not of took shots like that at you.
Horrendous Revolver misfires again
Methinks he protests too much. Methinks he is a racist and is prejudiced (positively) in a perverted way.
This illegal alien, immigrant monster had no business in our country.
Gerald owes Michelle Malkin and the American people an apology for his ignorance regarding immigration law.
Does he not know that visa violations are part of the problem? He must be still sobbing over the lost amnesty bill and hyper defensive.
Here is what was said by ICE, Geraldo (you ninny:Federal authorities had legal grounds to deport him 17 years ago, after his 1990 conviction for incest. They didn’t. “He escaped our attention,” said Lorie Dankers, spokeswoman for Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Seattle.
If Bill O’Reilly’s viewers decrease each time he has Geraldo on his show, I betcha he won’t be invited too often.
I, for one, am going to email FOX and tell them to not renew Geraldo (remember his sobbing during Katrina? HELP ME! I am going to be raped!).
The network lost credibility when they hired this moron. He is not a journalist, he is a lawyer-hysteric with an inflated ego. I wish someone else would throw a chair at his nose.
Fixed that for you.
ANYTHING that incorporates an appearance by the reprehensible Geraldo Rivera will be swiftly switched off. I, too will let Fox News know this.
How many times does Geraldo have to be told that Michelle is against ILLEGAL immigration?
He calls her an “anti immigrant radical”. Geraldo is a “let all the criminal illegal aliens stay in America” radical. A commenter above is right. He puts his loyalty to his ethnicity before his country. Shameful.
It galls me that Fox & others consider Geraldo a genuine journalist…
It and their comic news segment, no matter how good, have convinced me that they are simply retreating towards being an entertainment network….thus, Geraldo…he makes entertainment, no matter how bad….
Michelle constantly eviscerates him with her intellect…..love it….
C’mon you guys! Geraldo is a great journalistic reporter!
Remember when he had that Jerry Springer-style talk show and got his nose busted by a flying chair? Remember when he spent three hours sneaking into Capone’s vault only to find nothing? Remember when he had a boxing match with Howard Stern or whoever it was over a personal insult? Remember when, being the gentleman that he is, when it was discovered that he had bed Bette Midler he said he did it because he was a sex addict?
Oh and he’s so proud of his Hispanic heritage – only when it wasn’t hip to be Hispanic on TV he called himself Jerry Rivers.
Just when he begins to get some credibility for his dangerous coverage in Iraq, he reminds us all of what a two-bit sensationalist he is.
By the way, unlike Mr O’s ratings numbers which rise even higher when Michelle is subbing, Rivera’s Saturday gab-fest numbers are in the tank. So after 20 years or more in the biz, Jerry Rivers is such a loser that newcomer Michelle (who is admittedly brilliant)cleans his clock all the time.
Unfortunately, Michelle, I respectfully submit that you can’t just ignore old Jerry any more than we can ignore terrorists, because with his view on immigration policy, he isn’t too far from the definition himself.
Dadling:
Don’t dismiss the Half Hour News Hour as mere entertainment. Liberals have known for years that parody is a devistatingly effective form of exposing truths (or in their case, disseminating propoganda).
Even though I’m not a big fan of the show which still seems to be getting its sea legs, I applaud Fox for getting it up and running. Besides, Fox is a fair and balanced network, yes? Where else on television are you likely to find political parody designed for a right wing audience?
Don’t knock it. At this point, any victory is a good victory.
I have been switching to MSNBC when Jerry Rivers comes on in order to make an indirect statement to FOX.
I was pleasantly surprised to see so many kindred souls.
But, after reading so many comments I realalize I have been remiss in my duty.
I need to write to FOXNEWS and roger directly
Again Michelle, I side with you on border defense. I also agree with Geraldo, we will turn America into a snitching civilian police state. I don’t think you are a anti-immigrant radical.
