JetBlue backs away from Kos
Update: Adding vid of Talking Points Memo…
Just got word that JetBlue has asked the YearlyKos organizers to remove its name from the nutroots convention’s website. For its sponsorship deal, JetBlue apparently donated 10 travel vouchers to YearlyKos. I understand that there are no plans to revoke the vouchers. O’Reilly will be reacting to the decision tonight.
In a letter to O’Reilly, JetBlue says it is “an airline” not “a political organzation.” Glad to hear it.
Guess we can add that other wing back to JetBlue’s planes:
***
Here is the standard e-mail response JetBlue CEO Dave Barger is now sending to folks who complain:
Thank you for contacting JetBlue with your comment. We have been surprised and disappointed that the donation of JetBlue travel (10 tickets total) to a bloggers convention has been misinterpreted as support and/or agreement with a politically centered website we have absolutely no connection with.
As a company we take no stand on any political issues save those directly related to air
transportation issues. From my personal perspective the issue is quite straightforward. Our marketing team made a decision to donate 10 airline tickets to an annual convention of bloggers.
JetBlue was one of 23 groups to donate items and thus ’sponsor’ the YearlyKos convention. JetBlue will have no presence at the conference or any other involvement with the YearlyKos event. We have NO INVOLVEMENT with DailyKos or anything said or represented on that website. Our workforce of roughly 11,000 consists of a huge variety of backgrounds and belief systems. I was personally completely unaware of the existence of DailyKos prior to news connecting the YearlyKos convention and thus our airline ticket donation to DailyKos. I personally have never condoned and abhor anything hateful towards anyone and am fully confident that JetBlue’s crewmembers share this view.
We certainly hope that the sweeping generalizations connecting JetBlue to a political stand will be recognized as exaggeration and with no basis in fact.

I guess jetBlue decided that it wasn’t going to mix politics and business… you know, like they’ve been saying that they wouldn’t be doing from the beginning? Yeesh, what a mess. Still, those vouchers are a contribution and I look forward to getting my NeoCon free travel vouchers in the mail when I make it out to Cheney’s secret bunker later this fall.
Any moment now the left will mistakenly complain about censorship. The conservatives will state that the free market once again reigned supreme.
Again the conservatives will be right.
Now if only my parents could be given back the thousands of dollars the teachers’ unions stole from them under the guise of “dues,” that were used fo politcal activity my parents opposed.
Oh well, one small victory at a time.
eric http://www.blacktygrrrr.wordpress.com
P.S. Those who defended Jet Blue are most likely the same ones that savaged Dr. Laura Schlessinger and forced her off the air.
Dr. Laura’s television show, not her radio show. I wish my keyboard had a clarification button.

I would take a wait and see stance. Could be like an Ellison apology. Keep those vidoes rolling!
Well, they better do something to get that other wing back on. I’m no engineer, but I don’t think management’s hot air alone can keep those planes up for very long!
I would think that a corporation would not make any kind of donation without first knowing what it was donating to. I don’t believe a word of this. They should really say, “Sorry we got caught supporting the radical left. We hope all you consumers are stupid enough to believe our denial.”
I wonder how much Jet Blue has donated for our military?
Reading fast to keep up, so if I missed it I apologize - has the other 23 donors besides JetB, been posted? Think of the possibilities to torture them with calls, letters and e-mails as well.
Neoconnews #1…Cheney invited me out to the secret bunker this fall too. JetB needs to come up with many more freebies. We could be talking charter size.
I read your statement, Mr. Barger. One question. Who are you trying to fool?
Pelosi, Reid, Emanuel, Schumer, Dodd, Clinton, Obama, Edwards, Richardson Clark, Durbin, Dean and on and on will be in attendence…But let not your heart be troubled. We got JetBlue cornered. It’s like watching Barney Fife round up Otis…lol
Hey Dave Barger,
How about some YearlyKos convention offsets? You could give me 10 tickets and I will let Michelle know you support a radical right wing Christian. That should do it!
Two excellent questions here so far:
I think these are worthy of looking into, especially the latter for exposure on national television. If anything good came out of this whole charade, it would be some free tickets for our boys and girls overseas. Any possibility in shaming them into dishing out some extra free tickets, Michelle?
Now if Jet Blue would offer free tickets to our military families for travel to and from Walter Reed or our other military medical facilities, Jet Blue would be my first choice for air travel. I’m serious!
Donations to the military are called taxes, last time I checked
I have to admit to be totally flabergasted that he backed down on this.
I might have believed his ‘appology’ if they had withdrawn the vouchers. But since they didn’t that makes it an obvious PR C-Y-A stunt. But I didn’t even think they would go that far.
I still won’t change my mind about using them. Unless as Zorro says they become suddenly Pro-military
Damn you bloggers!
*shakes fist*
Oh, to be a little mouse at the Kos convention…heh
Test
I hope someone will report back from that wacko convention and tell us if Jet Blues name is there as a sponsor. Also what other corporations names where there.
Sad,,,,,,What you are considering donations? They are the only ones affiliated with our government worth paying or earning their pay.
Thank you, #20…my response to Yashmak didn’t make it onto #16.
I was wondering who the other sponsors were as well. As much as it hurt I searched Yahoo for Yearly Kos and found a list of sponsors. JetBlue is still listed maybe they haven’t had time to update it.
But the other ‘companies’ and organizations are just a bunch of crazy lefty organizations.
Ron C
#22, JetBlue’s CEO is obviously full of crap. Like you noted, the only real world business sponsoring this hatefest -is- JetBlue.
rac in #22
Unfortunately the JetBlue sponsorship supposedly was donated airline tickets … and those weren’t withdrawn from what I read … someone correct me if I am wrong … but I would say that would still qualify them to be listed on the “sponsor’s” listing …
#24…exactly, no change in status.
Ahhh, who didn’t see this coming? My BSometer is redlining…
I see by the list of all 24 sponsors that Kos has rounded up the ususal suspects. Move on; there’s nothing to see.
Well, its a lame explanation - obviously everyone who sponsors an event is trying to be positively associated with the event - but good for them for figuring out this is a bad idea. Too bad they still suck as an airline and have 10% ownership by George Soros.
We certainly hope that the sweeping generalizations connecting JetBlue to a political stand will be recognized as exaggeration and with no basis in fact.
Yeah, right. And if you believe that, I’ve got Hitler’s pencil box I can sell you.
Lame explanation - When I tried to sponsor a trip to a shooting range, with a small # of clients (less then 10). Headquarters freaked and said no way.
That was a “non-public” event at a company with roughly 20,000 employees.
I would like to know who the other sponsors/supporters were? I note that the CEO just refers to it as a convention of bloggers.
I just noticed that the NEA is a sponsor. Putting those teachers union dues to work!
Anybody heard from Hillary’s campaign? As of yesterday they were on record as saying that Hillary was looking forward to attending.
So, to exemplify their non-politicalness, will they give 10 free vouchers to free republic?
Oh great…NEA? That means I’M sponsoring the useless thing.
Swell…
Yea, I got that email too.
But I’m in no forgiving mood, it’s all CYA.
This is my response to their reply to my initial email expressing my concern about who they choose to offer financial support to:
Mr. Dave Barger
Thanks for the response, but excuse me if I feel that your response is
a TOTAL BLOW OFF!
Weak at best!
A member of your staff must surly have known the reputation of the
“Daily Kos” crowds far Left Wing political rhetoric, before gifting
them free travel with your airline.
They made a decision, based on political judgment to support this group.
Does your company also give free tickets to members of far Right Wing groups?
Which ones?
The adage “You are known by the company you keep”, has always been a
guide for me in judging other peoples values.
I am wondering how many tickets your company has donated to US Military service members or their families?
Has your company donated free tickets to families to use for travel to be with those injured in the service of OUR country?
If so I would be glad to know more about it, so I can share that with my family and friends.
As a father of two deployed US Soldiers I would never consider flying your airline again knowing you support an organization that calls for the death of US military personnel.
An organization that takes glee at the news of US service members getting killed in the service of this nation!
Care to respond to my questions, or continue your CYA campaign?!
soldiers.dad in #36
Well said … as an old Viet Nam era Marine I would like to say thanks to you and ask that you pass that thanks on to your brave children that are serving this country with great distinction, dedication and honor.
We have NO INVOLVEMENT with DailyKos or anything said or represented on that website.
Oh, please.
You’re donating tickets so a bunch of bash-America moonbats won’t have to hitchhike to their conference and you’re claiming NO involvement?
Over at dKos they’re saying JetBlue hasn’t pulled sponsorship. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/7/19/223859/736
You can, in fact, still see their logo on the yKos page.
Jet Blue has been extremely supportive of the military.
# Recognized by the Department of Defense’s Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) for supporting JetBlue’s crewmembers who serve in the Reserves and Guard
# Multiple $10,000 contributions and tickets donated to Fisher House, the Ronald McDonald House equivalent for the Air Force
# Travel provided to on-duty soldiers
# 9/11 Memorial Golf Outing charity event sponsorship
# Multi-year sponsorship of the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C.
# Support of the New York Says Thank You Foundation
KOS is too extreme, too hateful, too everything vugar and wrong and dishonest, and Jet Blue is now being cute: now, instead of supporting KOS honestly and out in the open, they are doing it by stealth. They are still supplying tickets (think they do it for the Republican Convention?) and their only qualifier was that Jet Blue is not “political”. Was it too much for them to condemn so outragious a hate site? No. So therefore it is too much for me to fly Jet Blue. Simple. When they balance this out with a condemnation of KOS’ hate speech, then maybe, but their hair-splitting response convinces me more than ever that Jet Blue is ideological soulmates with KOS - but they simply doesn’t want to admit it.

JetBlue — A YearlyKos Sponsor — ROCKS
by pontificator

So, many of you may have seen the erroneous report that JetBlue has canceled the YearlyKos sponsorship. Well, like nearly everything you see on the Faux News channel, that report is out and out false.
Here are the facts:
pontificator’s diary :: ::
JetBlue confirmed that it will remain a sponsor of the YearlyKos Convention. As a sponsor, it donated 10 free roundtrip JetBlue tickets for speakers and staff to fly to and from the convention.
JetBlue has confirmed that its logo will remain on the YearlyKos frontpage as an in-kind sponsor.
JetBlue has acted as real heros here. They have put up with 1,000’s of vicious, hateful emails as a result of Faux News’s false reporting. And yet they are standing by us.
For Mr. Barger:
How many other bloggers have you supported with free travel? Ten tickets for the rabid hatemonger Markos Zúniga and nine of his International ANSWER, George Soros Open Society, hate-America types is an endorsement–not a sweeping generalization.
The next time your marketing department wants to endorse some of the worst America has to offer then maybe they should check with you first.
With the Kos site being in the news constantly, as a vocal left-wing force in the democrat party, it might behoove you to read more about what is going on in our world. You may be able to survive as an airline but the Marxists want to “help” you in that endeavor. They may not come for you today but they will eventually. You should care enough to be informed, to be aware of your neighbors losing their rights and freedoms to the “progressive” actions of groups like Kos and other anti-liberty, anti-freedom, anti-business, anti-American groups.
and there it is- THE MARKETPLACE WILL CORRECT ITSELF.
thank god JB did the right thing… can i say “god” on here?
As has been pointed out, nothing has changed. The sponsorship continues and Kos isn’t taking the logo off their website.
Let the mockery and boycotting continue. Judging from the vitriol spewing forth from Kos, it’s having an effect.
Look, Kos gets Pwn3d!
Jet Blue pulled the support. Kos left a rant that got quickly deleted, but someone nabbed it and put it in comments.
Vitriol? If I had a tabloid “journalist” like O’Reilly putting the words of a few anonymous commenters into my mouth, I would be pretty irked myself. I guess since Bill O isn’t reporting on the war anymore, he’s got to fill the airwaves with *something*. And apparently it doesn’t even have to be the truth; “truthy” will suffice.
I doubt anyone here cares, but the fine folks at Radar Online have done an excellent job of filling in the blanks that O’Reilly conveniently omitted from his [non-]story. Each of the comments O’Reilly cites are paired side-by-side with Kos’ actual, very own words on the subjects. But don’t let that stop you - please, mock away!
I wrote an e-mail and got the same response from JetBlue. I forwarded this to Michelle, but I am sure she has seen it 100 times.
Anyway, David Barger has an Economics and Political Science degree from Michigan. He should know the dangers of donating to organizations such as Kos. His marketing team should be fired.
