Al Sharpton and Wal-Mart: Open-borders buddies
The nation’s biggest racial demagogue and the nation’s biggest employer joined hands at the National Council of La Raza’s annual conference to push for another shamnesty bill. AP reports:
The Rev. Al Sharpton and Wal-Mart CEO Lee Scott became unlikely allies Tuesday in their call to revive immigration legislation, in speeches before the nation’s largest Hispanic civil rights organization. “Congress needs to pass a comprehensive immigration reform bill now,” said Scott, who heads the world’s largest retailer.
Scott attributed his views in part to his Mexican-American granddaughter, who has helped him to understand immigration as more than “simply a cerebral exercise.”
Looks like Scott could use a little more “cerebral exercise” himself. Wal-Mart needs to worry less about what Congress is doing and more about its own hiring practices. As for Sharpton, the black civil rights leader has now seen fit to put the interests of illegal aliens above all else “or we lose the moral authority to fight for anybody.”
It was never his to lose.
Sharpton then scoffed at the negative impact of mass illegal immigration on black Americans:
Sharpton dismissed the notion that immigrants are taking jobs from black Americans.
“What jobs?” he demanded. “Blacks were doubly unemployed by whites before anyone came across the border.”
For a diametrically opposed view, read the recent House testimony of T. Willard Fair, President and CEO, Urban League of Greater Miami.
Mr. Fair wasn’t invited to the La Raza confab…

From everything I have read in blogs and publications; watched interviews on TV, and so on, Sharpton does not speak for the average African American. He was not elected to speak for them, and genrally speaking, in the majority, they resent the fact that he does.
Why is La Raza -not- covered by the MSM as the blatantly racist organization that it really is?
Totally UNSAT.
Sounds like Wal-Mart wants to cut its labor costs even further. What better way than to cultivate a low-cost labor pool?
Shop Target.
Looks like I will have to stop shopping at Wal-Mart now.
We cannot control businesses. I am shocked to see Al Sharpton and Walmart joining forces for La Raza. I am silent on Al Sharpton. I say nothing against him.
Hey, just because 80% of the American people say no to illegal migration that’s no reason to stop trying to ram it down our throats.
If you can’t get it past Congress, demagogue, demagogue, demagogue (nobody does it better than Rev. Al).
Wal-Mart of course just wanted to see what their millions paid for (love what you’ve done with the place).
The truth is, evil is never content and to preserve our children’s future we have to realize the need for constant vigilance.
Walmart will feel it *IF* the word gets out that they are teaming up with Al the amoral hatebeast Sharpton and La Raza (”The Race”).
Being on a fixed income, disability, wal*mart has seen my last buck. Hire the rudest, most ill mannered people to start, can’t get a “thank you” out of ‘em even when trying to embarrass em at the ck stand.
As someone who has lived in Arkansas for 20 years, Walmarts position on illegals is hardly surprising.
Walmart and illegal aliens.
Walmart used to be a pro America company, sad to see what’s happened to it.
I refuse to shop at Walmart.
Since they have no joined with the great Al, they need to revise their name to “SharpMart” or “AliMart”.
that should be NOW joined….to early to type.
OldGuy is right. Lee Scott is not anything like Sam Walton.
Gracias para no hablar espanol, Al. Exactly what would Sharpton know about employment anyway; he doesn’t have a job.
Anything that gets on O’Reilly seems to get the attention of the corporate big wigs. Maybe Michelle can take care of that. Sharpton…who cares what he has to say? He’s nothing but an overrated blow-hard. He doesn’t speak for anyone…not even blacks.
Time to reward loyal American companies with our bucks
I just don’t know what to say. Wal Mart esscentially committed to undermining this nation’s culture for a few pennies on a buck. It’s despicable. I won’t mention the corporate shakedown artist who’s beyond contempt. I’m so tired of companies giving Americana the shaft, so here’s a suggestion to Malkin’s staff: Create a listing of Michelle-endorsed companies/products/services who won’t sell American culture down the river, like go to Dunkin Donuts and use Dogpile, etc. Who’s a good replacement for Wal Mart?

Question cajun: Does anyone speak for African Americans?
This just gives me another reason not to shop at Wally World. I have disliked this company for a long time for many reasons including: 1. They buy a very high percentage of their products from China sending Billions of Dollars to fund a country which is no friend of the USA, steals our trade secrets and patents, manipulates their currency, and plays by no international rules. 2. Shopping there is not a pleasant experience, and 3. They fight to put their stores in beautiful rural settings spoiling the character of the whole area and angering many local people.
It may provide very low cost merchandise for low income people, but it comes at a price for our country as a whole.
I believe his business card reads:
Al Sharpton
Race Hustler
Or we loose the “Moral Authority” to fight for anybody.
I have brought this up everytime Al Sharpton comes up in a topic.
Al Sharpton and others of the so called Black Leadership want to be considered Moral Authorities. The USA is a Republic we have a Democracy, Majority Rule with Minority Protection. No one has the right to cram their Moral’s down our collective throats we are Free People. The Taliban had the Moral’s Police, in place in Afghanistan they used sticks in the Public Square, they would rap women with them if their shoes clicked to loud on the ground, they would rap men their sticks if they didn’t like the grooming status of their beards. The Morals Police, thing didn’t work out to well for the Taliban, remember what happened to them?
This above quote from Al Sharpton, is the straightest statement, he has made about his intentions. Al Sharpton’s motivation, Why not be brazen, nobody in the MSM is pointing any of this out, and nobody is trying to stop him.
I guess Dark Knight speaks for all black people.
How do you draw that conclusion PB? I have said nothing of the sort.
And it’s a legit question. I’m asking for a serious answer.
To my original question.
On the topic of shamnesty & open borders:
A news story today, http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,290736,00.html , highlights the growing problem of the latin American gang MS-13.
Previous reports about the growing voracity of the gang include these comments:
“Rodrigo Avila, El Salvador’s vice minister of security, says that an average of 250 criminals a month are deported to El Salvador from the USA and that a dozen of them are gang members.” – USA Today, 2-23-2005
“By the 1990s, U.S. law enforcement was taking note of the group. Many members were deported to El Salvador, where they set up branches and, in many cases, returned to the USA. There are 8,000 to 10,000 members of MS-13 in 31 states, says the National Drug Intelligence Center, an arm of the Justice Department.” – USA Today, 2-23-2005
MS-13 is not solely comprised of immigrants as they grow in size by also absorbing legal US citizens. But these stories are seemingly not widely spoken of and an unwelcome sign of proof to liberals that all who come here are the ‘poor hard-working souls looking for a better life’ that the left would like us to believe.
edit: that NOT all who come here ….
Also – note the 250 deportations per month of criminals back to El Salvador.
AND – the mention of how many of those deported gang members return to the US.
Enforce the laws NOW. Build the fence NOW.
Apologies for my first post DK…I was pissed after thinking about WalMart/La Raza/Sharpton and your post angered me a bit more.
As for your initial question, I see plenty of people in the mainstream claiming that they speak for the vast majority of black people. They are self-proclaimed, for the most part, but like Sharpton, they inject themselves into situations to argue race from the black “victim” perspective and they typically have large followings/significant media coverage.
I just think it is somewhat odd that many non-white racial groups still feel the need to throw their race in your face whether it is a legitimate issue or not. Gotta love that race card, it is getting a lot of use these days. You don’t see many mainstream white leaders (none that I can think of, actually) arguing the “white” position on major news events, do you? Are there white versions of Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson that you see in the news almost daily? Of course not…to do anything in the name of white people would be widely cursed as racist yet there is significant discrimination against whites and it has been mainstreamed. Hypocritical, no?
Bottom line, personal responsibility goes a long way. With rare exceptions, the victim status that many people operate under in this country is self imposed and unproductive. Constantly injecting race when one doesn’t have a real argument gets pretty old and I am tired of seeing it. I am also tired of seeing my country and its culture (yes, there is such a thing as -American- culture) getting sold to the highest bidder.
I respect any person, of any color, that takes personal responsibility. I have nothing but contempt for eternal “victims” and their entitlement mentalities.
And here is my second pont of view on these debates
