Breaking: Bullet-riddled body of S. Korean found…Update: Report of freed hostages denied

By Michelle Malkin  •  July 25, 2007 11:33 AM

Just in:

The bullet-riddled body of a South Korean hostage was found by police Wednesday in central Afghanistan after a purported Taliban spokesman said the militants had killed one of the captives.

The male victim had 10 bullet holes in his head, chest and stomach, and was discovered in the Mushaki area of Qarabagh district in Ghazni province, said police officer Abdul Rahman.

The Taliban spokesman said earlier that the hostage was was killed because Afghan authorities hadn’t met their demands to release other militants from prison.

Chosun identifies the victim
as a male pastor:

Taliban militants who are holding 23 Korean hostages in Afghanistan killed one male hostage at 4 p.m. on Wednesday (8:30 p.m. KST), a purported spokesman for the group said. The Afghan government confirmed a hostage had been killed, while the Afghan Islamic Press quoted the spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, as saying the name of the victim was “Hon Qud son of Hochim.” The victim is believed to be a 42-year-old pastor named Bae Hyung-kyu. “Since Kabul’s administration did not listen to our demand and did not free our prisoners, the Taliban shot dead a male Korean hostage,” he told Reuters.

The Taliban, who had set 6:30 p.m. Wednesday as their negotiating deadline, threatened to kill the hostages after a new deadline on Thursday, 1 a.m. “If the administration of Kabul is not ready to release our hostages, then by 1 a.m. the rest of the hostages will be killed,” Ahmadi said. “That time is the last deadline.”

Korean news station KBS says the Taliban spokesman is denying that other hostages were freed:

A purported Taliban spokesman says the Taliban militants killed a South Korean hostage and dumped his body in the Musheky area of the Qarabagh district in Ghazni province.

Qari Yousuf Ahmadi said the Taliban shot and killed a male South Korean hostage because the Afghan government had been refusing their demands. He warned that more hostages will be killed if their demands are not met.

Reports in Seoul said the killed hostage is believed to be 42-year-old pastor Bae Hyung-kyu who led the South Korean group to Afghanistan on a volunteer work mission.

Ahmadi also denied reports that eight hostages had been released, calling it an Afghan government ploy to get an upper hand in hostage negotiations.

The Muslim rebel group has set 5:30 a.m. Korean standard time Thursday, as the final deadline for negotiations.

Of course, the Taliban shot the Christian clergyman first. If you were an ignorant and intolerant Muslim fighting to establish a world-wide Muslim empire, who would you shoot?

This is a perfect expression of the Muslim doctrine of war as written in the Koran and hadith and demonstrated by Mohammed: convert, submit, or die. The Korean clergyman did not convert to Islam. The government did not submit to the Taliban. So the Taliban started killing infidels. It’s perfectly Islamic.

I see that my earlier observation in a prior thread on this topic was mistaken: I’d figured that the Talis would behead the male prisoners, per their 7th Century mores. They can come to grips with the modern world, at least to the degree it helps them become more efficient murderers.

To that extent, I stand corrected. Otherwise, as for the fates of the remaining four men and eighteen women, if the Talis are true to their absolutist take on Mohammedanism then for the former it’s more bullets, and the latter the auction block.

Magnifying Jesus Christ by being satisfied in Him in pain, suffering, and death was the passion of the Apostle Paul’s life. His passion was not to escape pain, or escape disappointment, or escape suffering. Rather, when Paul reflected deeply on the Absolute Eternal Value of his Treasure, Jesus Christ, that perspective even caused him to endure suffering, torture, and even death, for the sake of honoring Jesus Christ.

An unbelieving, dying world looks at these South Korean missionaries and think, “are they crazy? Don’t they know the inherent risks and dangers?”

But a transformed heart, arising out of faith alone, views Jesus Christ as such a supreme Treasure that to glorify Him (even in suffering and death) is of such valuable importance and joy for the believer.

It looks like these South Korean missionaries must have had the same perspective as the Apostle Paul.

The only time they have been knocked off stride was when we went into Afghanistan with a take no prisoners approach and had their sorry butts in Pakistan before Musharraf even knew what was happening.

Any time we had trouble out of them all we had to do was threaten to notify the ROK Sargeant Major and they would straighten right up.

So who’s looking out for who again?

Sorry, but I don’t buy your bullcrap.

    And I don’t buy yours.

There are not many liberals who do not back the War on Terror. They still wish to avenge 9/11. From the ones I’ve observed, many seem to object to IRAQ when Osama Bin Laden remains Target #1.

That’s a notion that is seeming to cross party lines as 68% of people now oppose the handling of the war. 63% don’t think it the Iraq war was worth it in the first place.

May God comfort the family and friends and fellow worshippers of Bae Hyung-kyu who is now in heaven and has heard his Savior tell him “Well done, good and faithful servant.” May God protect the surviving missionary group. As the mother of a child who has gone on missionary trips I can only imagine what these parents are going through. I pray for their comfort, for the safety of their children, and above all that the message of the Gospel of Christ be spread to these terrorists and that their hearts be transformed.

Hmmm. You mean the bumper sticker? Don’t want wiretapping of calls from terror sponsoring nations, don’t want the Patriot Act, don’t want the finance tracking program, don’t want the border wall, don’t want John Doe protection for citizens…

How can you back the War on Terror if you oppose every effective means of fighting it? Why are liberals the ones demonizing the servicemen and women who are killing Al Qaeda members every day in Iraq AND Afghanistan?

Tell us you are anti-war peaceniks, tell us you believe terror should be fought with a subpoena in one hand and a warrant in the other (and only after the fact), tell us you blame America for terrorism… but please don’t tell us that liberals support the War on Terror, unless your name is Joe Lieberman,(ID) Connecticut. There’s just too much evidence to the contrary.

Most recent CNN poll has 42% believing it was worth it to go into Iraq and 51% who think not. That’s up considerably from last month btw.

As for liberals supporting the war on terror – baloney! It’s “the bumper sticker war” or a gigantic trick by Rove/Bush to set up a dictatorship.

Liberals want things exactly the way they were on 9/10 – no tough security, no troops overseas, no fighting al Qaeda as if we meant it. They want the FBI and CIA back to where they were – not talking to each other. They want even less internal security than there was then.

It’s obvious you don’t read many lefty websites or read Raw Story or Common Dreams. This is the base of the Democratic party. And whoever can make them forget 9/11 ever happened the best is going to win.

Right now, Hillary personifies 9/10 Democrats – her husband was president during the entire 1990’s.

Rick, I think you got it a little confused. We liberals, unlike some of you, believe the Constitution was not abridged by 9/11. We faced much more difficult crises in our history and the principles of our founding fathers and most importantly the Bill of Rights remain the bedrock of our country. The FBI and CIA can talk, but the CIA is forbidden by federal law to work domestically. And, Rick we didn’t fight Al Quaeda like we meant it, we outsourced getting OBL in Torra Bora, then we cut and ran to Iraq, i.e., precisely what would insure that Al Quaeda will prosper. And guess what, they are as strong as ever. So, great job on that war on terror, GWB.
