My excellent comment moderator Rick Moran responds to nutroots accusations that MichelleMalkin.com is a “hate site” based on a few comments. Read the whole thing.
I second everything Rick says, and would add a few things:
If you’re going to get into it, the qualitative difference between blog comments on liberal blogs and my blogs is Grand Canyon-wide. A reminder: “Let’s sexually torture, rape, murder and dismember the Malkin family.” Just follow all the links in that post. Endless left-wing hate documented here and here and here.
Or just spend a little time mining comments threads at the top liberal blogs for fresh material. I’m sure it won’t be long before you trip on a C-word, racial slur, or threat. It’s par for the course:

Glad to see you calling out the nutroots and liberals, Michelle.
We all know the definition of “hate speech” is
1) Anything said by a conservative. No matter how well-researched, reasoned, or correct. This is double if that conservative happens to be a woman, or African-American, Asian, etc.
2) Anything liberals disagree with.
Rule of thumb for my blog: if I raise the hackles of my more liberal readers (and I have a couple, though no where near as many as you), I’m probably close to or right on the mark.

Before beginning to read your blog regularly, I rarely, if ever, posted anything in response to comments I saw online.
Your website has really been a pleasure to read and contribute to in my own small way along with others, both conservative, moderate & liberal.
While we do have some regular disagreements amongst each other - usually with the same few posters - 99% of that discourse is done with discretion.
At times, some comments may be a bit more heated than others, there is not a time I’ve personally seen a hateful comment from either side. That is due to either the respect of those of us who post for you and each other, or, I’m sure, your diligent oversight of that which bears your name.
I give my thanks and my kudos to you, Rick and all who make this site possible.

You know, I really really wanted to snark that comment, but you got it right in one. I have been an avid reader of M. Malkin’s blog for some time and have really wanted to respond, until oh…a couple of years ago she put up some of the comments she had gotten…whoa. Filthy, nasty, racist, obscene, and badly misspelled.
And we wondered why she disabled the comments? The best part is that she kept on blogging. Thanks, Michelle, for your courage.
Mr. Greenwald’s accusation that this is a hate-site shows much about himself. Anyone familiar with Michelle or her blog-site would immediately realize how absurd that accusation is. We have a war in Iraq and in Afghanistan, but just as surely and importantly we have a war here in the U.S., on the field of ideas and communication, and so many on the other side in this war hate the truth and use obfuscation and deception to advance their positions and agenda. I am almost surprised that Greenwald would publicly say this is a “hate-site,” knowing how easily that is disproven — discrediting himself. Has he abandoned a desire to appear truthful? Unlike quite a crowd that hates people and hates the truth, I find that this site genuinely cares about people and loves the truth.
I’m not going to click to see the hate, just say ditto to jrl’s post. And thanks……

Name calling and talking junk are always the last acts of desperation when someone can’t win the debate on ideas alone. It just goes to show you that liberals have NO real ideas. This is why they are never open to debate and are quick to brand someone with differing views as a racist, a bigot, a war monger, etc. etc…..

Libs hate free speech and have largely succeeded in replacing it with PC speech by trentlotting public figures in conjunction with the lib media.
Why do libs hate free speech? For the same reason that dictators and other frauds hate free speech–they shrivel and retreat under the searing light of truth, like moist, squishy bugs that scurry about when their rock is overturned in the midday sun.
The ability to post stuff relatively anonymously on the web drives libs and the PC thought police bonkers since they haven’t figured out how to trentlot folks like us yet.
I’m not crazy about Rush Limbaugh, but one thing he’s observed rings true. When accused of hate, stupidity, racism, intolerance, etc., look first to the accuser. You’ll usually find those very attributes there.

I have been on your blog for a short time and the ONLY “hate speech” has been towards you Michelle. I often do and will continue to defend you and ask the blogger to stop and keep the comments about the topic. I have seen you bump someone only after a warning was leveled and he/she continued. I admire your continued patience with some of these people but know if they turn towards the hate direction, you will deal with them.
Thank you for your continued work at keeping your blog informative. I especially like your updates on the shame-nesty debacle.

God I wish I could say I hate the left, but generally they’re either mostly harmless or not worth such vivid emotions. Let the kids be kids & treat them accordingly. Someone on one of the Bill O’Reilly sites made a comment about murdering Hillary Clinton. A blogger on Huffington Post immedately turned the threatening comment over to the Secret Service.
On YouTube there are videos (satire, I hope–but still inappropriate) about how to kill GWB, yet YouTube won’t remove those.
This IS a hate site! Race-hustlers, race-baiters, poverty-pimps, genocidal imperialist religions, compassionate authoritiarians, etc. are NOT welcome and will be skewered on this site. These people are indeed hated.
What’s not to understand?
I think what we “hate” are the actions or their ideas, not the person him/herself.
Wake the hell up! They are turning our country into San Francisco.
From my religious viewpoint, I don’t believe that GOD wants us to hate another human being.
We are judged on our actions. We are all equal in the eyes of GOD, but our actions can turn Him away from his acceptance of us into His Kingdom.

It is so much easier to dismiss the well thought out and well researched topics displayed on this site if you just label it all ‘hate’ speech, isn’t it? It is worse than that, though, when smears such as ‘advocating violence’ crop up. Blatantly absurd to anyone who has ever read an article here.

Hate usually indicates envy, jealously, or ignorance.
No liberal, let alone the “peacelovers”, who would slit the throat of a conservative if they could get away with it, accepts a counter point. As I’ve already alluded, they hate Michelle cuz she’s gorgeous, extremely intelligent, and eloquently buries them in debate on any topic.
The left has gotten unwanted attention to their hate sites and are desperately trying to take the focus off themselves. It won’t work. They are in a hate class all by themselves. To say that this is an hate site is a lie, plain and simple. All people have to do is read the two sites and they can see for themselves. The truth will out.
What lefties hate about Michelle is that she deals with facts and can back up what she says. The left deals with their feelings and can’t back up what they say, so their froth from the mouth hate is all they have to offer.
Do Americans really want the left controlling our country? And do we really want a Democrat who is too afraid to appear on FOX News, panders to the left hate groups in power? Will they be able to fight Al Qaeda? I think not.

The immaturity and prevarication of the left is limitless. Extremism of any form is a disorder, and it can infect whole populations. That is what has happened here. I am saddened that you and your family must endure all those comments you have highlighted above. I’ve read them all before but it still breaks my heart such thoughtless people seek to harm you and others with their vile words.
There is not much we as commenters can do to deflect or stem that sort of heated rhetoric, but I wish we could… so for now, we just have to pray for those lost souls.
The reason to make commentors register
and not have open comments, is to keep out the haters and get rid of the ones that do make it through. I love the set up here and at HOT AIR, because it keeps the riff raff out. Thank You Michelle.

The moderation here is top notch as the swift removal of email adresses in other posts has shown. I have yet to see obscene language or anything that could be read as threats posted here. It is just another tit for tat attack. Look at it in a good light though maybe some middle of the road person might drop by here and see we aren`t so bad

I live here in the heart of Leftyland. The politicos here are big on the mantra “Private property is terrorism.” Yet they tax us here like the money grows on trees. They recently spent $3 million on a small patch of land to connect two bikepaths…but our disaster preparedness program and our fire houses are drastically underprepared for “The Big One”. They tell us “Be prepared because you will not get any help from ‘us’”.
They are busy passing resolutions in City Hall condemning Israel and “honoring” Rachel Corrie, but the storm drains don’t function when it rains.
These are just surface reasons why I don’t trust the Left.

I do my very best to not appear so blinded I cannot see another’s viewpoint. If I fail in that effort, I know that here the rebuke will be swift and to the point. Not mean or threatening, but fair. That cannot be said about any other site. To voice your thoughts and compare those of others is to learn, expand, and gain new insight. I’m grateful for the opportunity. I am also sorry for the unfounded attacks on Michelle and her family. This gifted young lady will go far and we must support and encourage her efforts.

I, too, am sorry you and your family have to endure the onslaught of evil people. I’m more concerned about the cumulative affect it may have on you as I see you expending a lot of energy responding to it or pointing it out. I may sound simplistic, and I know I don’t always practice what I preach, but try to ignore it and consentrate your very blessed talents and energy to focus us and you on the issues at hand. The hate is only white noise from the evil pit to try and distract you from your chosen mission to help freedom loving people.

The reason I respect Double-M even though I do not always agree with her is because she will call out conservative hate speech when she hears it. She is consistent and fair. She calls out liberal hate speech most of the time because that is where most of the hate speech is coming from!
This is not about right vs left. It is about right vs wrong.
I sent very polite but firm letters to Kos, Moveon and Huffington Post asking them to disavow antisemitic comments left on my blog, including comparing President Bush to Hitler. They did not respond.
They are the Axis of Antisemitism, which I will continue saying until they simply prove me wrong.

I am not a fan of redundance, but until enough people speak up and force these organizations to confront their demons, they will continue to be justifiably labeled as havens of hatred.

we’re almost at the point where if these left wing blogs call a site racist you pretty much know its not only NOT racist but it must be a damn good blog. TO be insulted by them is to know you’re kicking their ass.
I think this part of Rick’s response sums it all up:

We don’t need to merely doubt it, Rick, we can make a reasoned conclusion from experience, and in areas much larger than blogs and message boards. We know the lineup of the usual suspects.
I’m going to read around that site and see how they treat conservatives - there must be one post somewhere left behind before the guy was driven off in flames.
Speaking strongly and determinedly is not hate speech. Wanting people dead is hate speech, and that’s a liberal discussion trademark. How many times do we have to see it before we can just flat-out say it with confidence and without fear of some kind of reprisal. I have seen it on liberal blogs. Never a conservative board.
I do think we need to be careful of one thing - being afraid to speak in the strongest possible terms for fear of “proving the left right” (Gentleman Bob Dole comes to mind, grrrrrr). This is great for them, and in decades past we fell for it. I suggest we keep pouring it on big time - albiet, of course, without the death threats you see on the left. And I bet we all will.
As far as “Muslim go home” I’m on the fence about that. It’s low brow, uneducated and unfair, but to call it hate speech, like the KKK stuff, I think is going overboard. It might sound awful to virgin ears, but those hateful liberal bloggers are a tad too far along in their dangerously poisonous propoganda to behave like offended virgins.

Among their criticisms: our national Director is only half black.

I often have to remind myself that my husband and other vets fought for this country and for freedom of speech for all… not just those I agree with.
But what I can’t stomach is the hate. We are supposed to be the evil ones. But I haven’t seen anyone here threatening to kill Pelosi or hoping that Reid gets cancer and dies. I certainly haven’t seen the types of horrible threats that have been made against MM.

Although I’ve noticed that any minor disagreement with this site’s POV is usually attacked by the more conservative commenters (ie anyone except for DarkKnight, MikeB, and myself), calling this a hate site is preposterous.

Isn’t it ironic that the lefties, who fancy themselves geniuses and supposed paragons of feminism, attack you in the most crude, sexist, chauvinist manner? Their gutter talk puts the lie to their pretentious moralism.
I also can’t help but think that these unhinged attacks by the Left are based, in part, by the simple fact that conservative chicks are way hotter than lefty chicks. I can see how that dismal recognition could drive men mad.
Take it from me…this is not a hate site. I do take exception, to having to endure the stinging comments about Democrats. Not being a liberal, I concede the fact, that their destructive ideologies need to be fought and fought hard. I do believe that I hold dear, so called conservative principles. I am pro-life, I support the war effort with my own blood,limited government,tax cuts, anti-amnesty, rule of law………..ad infinitum. Life experience and personal choices and decisions, has brought me to where I am today. Where do I fit into the political spectrum as a citizen? Right of center, conservative with intersecting libertarianism. I guess that just makes me a political mutt.
A random notion about this struck me and I thought I’d share it for whatever good it might do in the discussion:
The responses to the kind of hate speech we hear at KOS and other lib sites tend to be just a bit unfocused in terms of strategy and then it hit me that there’s a very good reason for that- the world really hasn’t seen people like this before, at least to which I’m aware. People who hug trees but abort their own kids. People preach a global community of love but cannot contain their seething rage at opposing viewpoints to the point that they vent about the joys of inflicting pain and death to those who have the outlandish gall to disagree with them (they do act like they take it too personally, don’t they?) and people who for the sake of peace would kill our elected officials - but want to give a group hug to murderous barbarians bent on our detruction.
They say that those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. The problem is there’s been no history like this.
I recently had a discussion with a lawyer friend on the very issue of liberalism being a mental disorder, and while it’s a group/societal disorder, I’m not so sure it’s a joke which is usually the way it’s played - anyone that irrational isn’t quite playing with a full deck and that really isn’t a joke.
I dunno. But since the fringe left took over the Democrats Party it leaves you an orphan as far as they’re concerned.
Isn’t it interesting that JFK would be hated as a “wingnut” by today’s Democrats?
When you read the viciously anti-Semitic dairies & stories at the Kos hate site and others it makes you realize that some people dismiss the the adage about “forgeting history”.

IMHO, Going through life with hatred would suck……I feel for the fool’s.
Michelle’s Blog is even being discussed on Insidecable.com the latest numbers blog I think. I just laugh, I post here I know what I post, I have even been targeted by some far left looney, I forget the subject but “Persaeus” or something like that was the user name, was pretty ugly, with the personal attacks. Considering I am an Independent, it means if you are not on the far left- I like to call them Socialist, you are fair game?
This just goes to show how absurd and maybe even what kind of people we have become.
Oh no, it’s a hate site, run away, run away, run away! Just like be a labeled a “racist”. What does it really even mean? Both terms have come to embody a general paranoia and catchall phrase to shut down conversation and even destroy people. They have taken on such “power” as to be, I guess, the worst thing a human being could ever be even though they both are largely undefined and basically relative terms anyway. They carry such weight that all one has to do is just throw the words out there and the “accused” not the “accuser” then has to jump through hoops, hug trees, promise the world that they will be good from now on and apologize to all about how awful a person they are. It matters not that the accuser is all these things and even more then what they are accusing. We have lost our minds and all reasonable thoughts when it comes to the words “racist” and “hate”. Hate is even a rational emotion many times yet the word has been bastardized to the point of absurdity.
“Hate - Site” … consider the source of those accusations and that alone will remove any doubt that the only “hate” on this site is directed at
Michelle and those who comment here.

Rusty. If you will honest, MikeB is usually the one who throws the first punch. I love a good debate and I like the idea of debating without insults so, let’s all play fair. But, like the old NASCAR drivers used to say, “if you want to race we will race and if you want to stroke (rub fenders) we will stroke”.
MM.com a hate sight? I hate that idea!!!! If you look at the links on this thread the hate speech is clearly coming from Trolls and Nutroots. Rick Moran does an outstanding job as a moderator. There are liberal commenters on this sight. If the nutroots bothered to read some of these threads they would see how Mrs. Malkin defended liberal commenters on her site. She said “don’t call this commenter an a$$$h*l*, he just has a different view”. That struck me as amazing. There is no way the nutroots would allow a different view on their websites. It’s not in the Hugo Chavez playbook.

In reality I think the “hate site” problem is literally in the eye of the beholder …
however, it’s not “hate-site” … it’s “hate-sight”.
How can one see the truths presented on this “site” when they are blinded by “hate sight” for any and all things that do not fit their view of the world.
“Hate sight” is a clear symptom of BDS, and when these folks are exposed to the truth they become “Blinded by the Light”

Rusty, did you ever consider that the people who defend the site’s POV are here because they agree with the site’s POV? I don’t come here to listen to Liberal, anti-American commentary…I get enough of that in daily life (magazines, movies, music, TV, etc). I come here to get the truth and to reassure myself that the entire country HASN’T gone crazy. Michelle and many of the commenters here have restored my faith that people still care about what is important.
You, MikeB, DK, LG and the other Liberal hacks are annoying, but the good here far outweighs the bad. Don’t be surprised if you come here to insult MM or the collective beliefs that we share and get quickly rebutted. Funny thing, though, MM still allows you to stay and spew your insults. You don’t see such tolerance on sites where your Lib buddies hang out.
One of the reasons I started my own little blog was my shock at the sheer vitriol and hatred I was finding on left-ish sites. You do actually find the same thing on the fringe of the right wing, but a mainstream blog like this one? Contrast Michelle with the pottymouth nonsense you’ll find on Kos or Wonkette. Night and day. To call this a “hate” site is to reveal yourself as reality-impaired.

Pboilermaker, I said I love this site and I can say anything I want here. But, admit it, us libs keep this site interesting.
I’m probably wasting my time, responding to a thread this late. But, here it goes. The assertion that this site is a “hate site” demonstrates a SHOCKING failure to recognize the rationale for the First Amendment Freedom of Speech understood by the Federalists and the Anti-Federalists at the time of the adoption of both the Constitution and Bill of Rights. It also demonstrates a SHOCKING failure to understand the HISTORY of the exercise of such rights. Look at the editorial comments of President Lincoln’s conduct of the Civil War. THIS is precisely the sort of Freedom of Expression that the First Amendment was supposed to protect. Yes, it even protects the morons at DailyKos and DU for their idiotic rants.
But let me add this: if President Bush (Jr.) wants a third term or to impose a dictatorship (which is the current “progressive” conspiracy theory), which is no longer permitted by the Constitution, the opposition (including armed opposition) would not be limited to un-trained leftist morons.
Otherwise, this business of labeling something a “hate site” is merely verbal posturing in the on-going Culture War between the Right and the Left. I’ve picked my side, but I’m a veteran.
Michelle, and all those who maintain this website and HotAir (who apparently have gotten over whining about the lack of I-phones, or whatever it was), keep up the EXCELLENT work!
