It’s moments like these that make you forgot some of the boneheaded things that happen on the factor– like Geraldo for instance. Nice to see Dodd put in his place.
I agree with Dennis Miller. Dodd is just looking for a pat on the back and to get his face on T.V. He’s got nothing.
DailyKos-ites were already gloating about the confrontation yesterday, after someone from Dodd’s campaign was on their talking up his boss’s smacking-down of O’Reilly.
They see it as a win.
I agree with Dennis Miller, that the only thing the confrontation did was raise his worth at the yearly Kos-fest…but it’ll be a small blip on the radar that won’t do a thing for his campaign….much to his chagrin.
The hubris of guys like Dodd who think they actually have a chance in this election is astounding. It says an awful lot about you when your motivations for doing something are to get the kos haters to like you.
It’s obvious by the number of times he said “500,000″ he went into the interview with merely the one talking point he was fed. That he entered into what he perceives as the house of “the enemy” with so little is so sad. What a pathetic individual.
Senator Dud is running on the Ego party.
While I can understand the interest in inviting divergent views on The Factor, Dud was only interested in the expression of one view: his.
Heh. Lefties think Dodd cleaned Mr. O’s clock:
500k nice people on the kos and I am sticking to it, again and again and aga…
at least some of our guys know when to throw in the towel when they’re polling at 1% or less–thank you Jim Gilmore.
There was no smack down of O’Reilly by Dodd. Dodd made a fool of himself. How anyone in their right mind could consider that windbag as Presidential material is beyond my comprehension.
While seeing Dodd in this situation does show what a total moron he is, I have to agree with Miller that idiots like Dodd shouldn’t be given the time of day.
Oh Dennis Miller why did your TV show have to fail? and why must your radio show be on so late?
I’d be amazed if Chris “Talking Points” Dodd ever has a thought of his own.
From his repetition of 500,000 over and over again…to his misguided statement of O’Reilly’s derogatory statements every 9 seconds…to his mistatement and mischaracterization of Bill O’s “Al Qaida should attack San Francisco” as an actual O’Reilly viewpoint, instead of what is really was which was a part of a commentary / depiction.
Every one of those comments were taken from liberal talking points and liberal studies that are easily disproven.
This is the quality of your Presidential Candidates….and easily the reason he’s on the bottom rung of the Democratic Primary ladder.
I’m a Dodd supporter. I admit he has no chance. But if he’s able to have any influence on the Dem platform it’s worth it. That’s why the one percenters run. It’s why Al Sharpton and Dennis Kucinich fought to the very end in 2004.
BTW, you have to be fairly clueless to enjoy Bill O’Reilly. Wishing terrorism on San Fran, cutting off Jane Hall’s mic for pointing out the crazy comments on his website, and his blatant hypocrisy when it comes to “values.” Is he really the one you want preaching the anti-liberal/”nutroots” gospel?
Conservative blogs like this one and Powerline have so much more integrity than whatever hateful rhetoric and lies pop out of O’Reilly’s mouth. I hate the Kos diaries too, but O’Reilly is just as bad, if not worse sincem he is considerably more influential.
My very good-natured and kind friend admitted that one of the first times she ever felt schadenfreude was the great falafel incident. I nodded my head in agreement.
“Shredded?” Last time I checked yelling over someone is not evidence of winning an argument. O’Reilly yells because he can’t make the argument in a clear, calm, and cogent manner. Either that or he is compensating for lack of IQ. I’m tired of O’Reilly’s schtick. I guess I just prefer debates to be dialogues between two people.
O’Reilly can’t “shred” anyone at an argument. He can only yell. For “shredding” someone, go search “Christopher Hitchens” on YouTube.
It was like pulling teeth to even get Dodd to say the photo with Lieberman was foul. He’s a real class act. No wonder he’s a Democrat and a KOS supporter.
Bill should have cut off his mic until he stopped repeating his talking points ad nauseum.
Dennis Miller said it perfectly. Dodd is staring right at the rear end of Kucinich in this race. Maybe he’ll wind up in the cabinet of President Dennis “the Menace”, Secretary of Peace. Leading the brand new Department of Peace. What a collection of geniuses.
I’m gonna buck the trend here and say that I am tired by BO going after DK bc it is a hate site. The most ridiculous meme on the blogosphere is the whole “your site is hateful bc commenter 126 said…..”. I know Kos has said some stupid things but it is such a ridiculous distraction from real issues.
Is it only me, or does Chris Dodd remind anyone else of the Creature from the Black Lagoon?
http://aycu27.webshots.com/image/23146/2005005247141757186_rs.jpg
I don’t mind BO going after DK when it’s something like this. And it’s not just the comments on the DK, it’s some of the actual posters. They may not be the ones posting obscene Lieberman photos but they post some down right offensive and objectionable stuff themselves. And presenting at a conference where the sponsors have a full blown case of BDS only says that you have no intetion of listening to anything moderate in the future…good way to caputre the political center guys.
I see some angry lib activists here unable to contain themselves at the thought that O’Reilly tore Dodd to tiny little pieces – he did, because Dodd made several assertions that he couldn’t back up when challenged.
By the way, shouting to be heard over someone trying to speak over you when it’s your turn to talk is absolutely fair. In fact, in a world where until very recently it was expected in the media that Conservatives would be politely quiet whenever liberals chose to interrupt them – and conservatives obliged(!)- watching O’Reilly shut down the rudeness in it’s tracks is a downright catharsis.
Naturally Libs thought they won, by the way. They also think that Rosie is hip, child molesters can be rehabilitated, raising taxes in 2008 is a good idea and that you can negotiate with murderous barbarian terrorists who wrap themselves in blood-soaked metaphores. Like Alice, they try to believe 10 impossible things before breakfast. Another good reason to pull out all stops and defeat them in ‘08.
Alphonse,
Look at the facts. The Creature was a hit, Dodd is down in the polls. The Creature became sympathetic, Dodd could never be. The Creature was a sure, straight swimmer with style and grace, while Dodd’s presidential bit is just treading water until the money runs out.
No, I disagree with the comparison vehemently. I think you do The Creature From The Black Lagoon a great disservice by comparing him to Dodd.
Dodd is counting on those 500,000 to deliver the nomination and White Hose to him.
s/b House. Hey, it’s Friday…
The people of CT should be embarrassed they voted for such a BOOB! But, then again it’s is a moonbat state.
I mean, same goes for O’Reilly and the stuff he’s said and the stuff in his website’s comments.
The problem with O’Reilly is that he pretends nothing he belives in applies to him. The other huge problem is that debating him on the Factor is impossible. You have to shout over him because he shouts over you. That’s why I find him so unwatchable. And when/if you start making points that hit close to home, he cuts your mic. Say what you want about CNN, but they at least let opposing viewpoints make their case without being censored.
Rusty, you stated “BTW, you have to be fairly clueless to enjoy Bill O’Reilly. Wishing terrorism on San Fran,”
That is an out-of-context statement I will call you on.
O’Reilly did not ‘wish terrorism’ on San Francisco, and your spewing a talking point.
The context of that related comment was in a discussion about San Francisco’s desire to boot out Military recruiters from their city.
His statement was from a ‘conceptual conversation’ he was having, saying that IF he was the President of the United States, his reply to S.F. not wanting the Military in their city would be more or less, “Fine – you’re on your own”.
He was not personally wishing any death or destruction on the city or it’s people.
He was highlighting the stupidity of City Officials who decry any symbol of the military, i.e. recruiters and the Blue Angels. Yet it would be these same officials who would cry for help the loudest from the military and the administration if there were targeted attacks on S.F..
Except O’Reily doesn’t actually say that stuff (try watching the show and not reading media matters rusty) and he’ll delete comments off his websites if they’re that offensive.
Sometimes his shouting is obnoxious and uncalled for, but most of the time it’s because his guests would rather recite their talking points than answer the question. You don’t see him doing this to MM or Kirsten Powers
and sanjay Gupta criticizing Sicko is not an opposing viewpoint.
Also, Rusty – B.O.’s point is that anyone hateful material posted on his site is removed, just as it is here.
The same cannot be said about Kos.
Simple distinction. That picture he showed with GWB & Lieberman is ridiculously disrespectful and yet was on the site for a long time.
Yet Michelle has a picture posted on her website of a Koran in a toilet. This is disrespectful to Muslims. If she had a picture of the Bible in a toilet, that would be disrespectful to Christians. The difference being that a dKos commentor posted the image of Lieberman versus Michelle (as webmaster) posted the Koran picture herself.
Yes, the webmasters at Kos left the image up.
That Lieberman picture was disrespectful, but it was clearly in-bounds. It was a bit much, but it was making a clear political point. Satire is often supposed to be disrespectful.
I am aware of the “conceptual conversation” O’Rielly had regarding San Francisco. I even agree that San Francisco was being ridiculous. But what O’Reilly said was beyond the pale:
If a liberal said that, this website would explode with (rightful) outrage. O’Reilly was saying he would be happy if terrorists attacked a city where the voters disagreed with him. Even if it’s a matter of artlessness, it’s still pretty terrible. It’s just as bad as Kos’s comment regarding military contractors where he said he didn’t care about their casualties (using naughty language; something not available to Mr. O’Reilly). “We don’t agree so I don’t care if something bad happens” is not an acceptable argument from the left or the right.
Ah, I see. When you’re just “conceptually” inviting terrorists to kill Americans, it’s not hate. Got it.
O’Reilly says that dailykos posts offensive pictures and commentary everyday, yet he is only able to procure one single photoshopped picture and a handful of comments from a site that receives thousands a day. These kind of diversionary tactics from the real, substantive issues our nation/world faces right now is utterly disgraceful. Don’t we have better things to debate than a distasteful picture of Bush and Leiberman?
Dodd is spot on: if you have an issue with ideology, challenge Kos on that. Smearing the site isn’t going to change anyone’s mind, it just makes him look desperate.
It’s not “We don’t agree, so I don’t care if something bad happens”. It’s a matter of a U.S. city politicians hating the military so much that they don’t want recruiters, air shows or anything else in their limits.
The ridiculousness is that it is this same military which pours millions of dollars into the local economy, and protects these political nitwits in dire times, and allows them the freedom to spout their foolishness.
And liberals HAVE said far worse – such as the Iraq contractor issue, or wishing death upon a sitting Vice-President or President.
As for the Lieberman picture, it’s ridiculous to call it ‘in-bounds’. Sen. Lieberman has voted with the Democrats on what, 95% of issues in his tenure? But then he dared to defy the far-left and now is villified by characterizations of sexual gratification with the President?
How sick is that? And you think that is ‘In Bounds’? Disagree with the man if you will – but leave the personal attacks out of it.
As for the ‘Koran in the toilet’ picture: The picture depicts what the story is all about.
Michelle has also posted in the past:
Photo of Madonna’s face superimposed over the Virgin Mary, as well as other pictures which could be insulting to Christians – but they were crucial to the story.
The point you forget is that desecration of Christian symbols is commonly held in high regard as “art”. But yet, when the same is tried with Muslim symbols – there are death threats, rioting and more.
Huggy – the point is that Kos LEAVES THE POSTINGS UP! I’m sure Michelle has to filter out some nasty things here from time-to-time, as does O’Reilly and other sites.
The difference is Kos doesn’t do that – they leave the hateful posts up to inspire dialogue. If the site’s owner had any decorum, he would eliminate the hateful posts and keep the discussion focused on policies and viewpoints.
To say O’Reilly’s problem is that he disagrees with the site – and therefore is calling Kos out for their hateful rhetoric ( however few posters it may be ) neglects the fact that these comments are allowed to remain the boards.
Oh, and by the way, Michelle – there’s a typo in the title of this post. You forgot the last word. It should read “Chris Dodd Shredded O’Reilly.”
Rusty, how about giving us the rest of the Bill O’Reily talking points rather than just one snipit taken out of context? He was clearly not encouraging anyone to blow up San Fransico. You’ve said it yourself that you can’t stand watching him, so you probably got that quote from media matters and have no idea what the surrounding statements were.
taylork, tit-for-tat: how about giving some context surrounding the hateful posts on dailykos? Oh wait, someone did that already.
Huggy, why don’t you give us Bill’s full speech and then criticize it?
So you’ve given me a link to a site where they respond to O’Reilly by giving him examples of things he wasn’t criticizing. O’Reily is referring to the commenters, and how KOS leaves them on its site without admonishment, not too the those specific posts.
The link shows the admitedly hateful comments along side the posts to which the comments addressed. Context.
It was widely publicized that someone left a comment on O’Reilly’s site that implied he/she would kill Hillary if she was elected president.
It’s not a personal attack. No one thinks what’s depicted in the picture really happened. It’s satirical. It’s no different than a racy political cartoon.
I don’t like DailyKos, but I’ve always been appreciative of the hatchet job they’ve done on Lieberman. It’s not just the far-left that’s sick of him. It takes more than the far-left to lose a primary.
Some muslims believe our very existence is disrespectul.
So a photoshop of you having masochistic sex in front of a cheering audience with a ‘Yearly Kos’ banner would not be thought of as a personal attack but a satirical/politcal cartoon?
Me? No. I am not a public person. Chris Dodd? Yeah, sure, although I wouldn’t get the joke.
Satire is supposed to sting. Otherwise what’s the point. I’m sure a few English thought Swift’s “A Modest Proposal” was out-of-bounds too.
again mr huggy, O’reilly was referring to the commenters and how they were still up there and not immediately removed, not the original post. Context
“It’s not a personal attack. No one thinks what’s depicted in the picture really happened. It’s satirical. It’s no different than a racy political cartoon.”
Of course, hopefully, no one thinks it really happened. But, to state that it’s not a personal attack is ludicrous.
Of course it’s personal. There are plenty of satirical photos and cartoons that don’t have to stoop to the level of mocking a sitting Senator & President by posing them in a sexual posture.
A non-personal response would be to have Lieberman carrying a GOP banner, or something similar. This was just pure vile and hatred aimed at a Democrat who won’t tow the party line. Plain and simple.
O’Reilly’s reportage on dKos is amateurish and lazy. Would you prefer a collaboration of conservative bloggers and blog readers doing his legwork? I would ignore individual commenters and focus on the “anti-zionist” and anti-military diaries. Instead of leading this week with a “homo-shop” of Lieberman, O’Reilly should have reported that on the previous Friday one of the most recommended Kos diaries insinuated that Pat Tillman was murdered by the military. If one were to follow that with reports of some of the “Protocols of Daily Kos” type diaries, then some Democratic Presidential candidates might begin to reconsider their decisions.
No, it’s a Photoshop that portrays Lieberman as submissive to Bush. It’s an opinion held by many on the left, including myself (at least regarding Iraq/Iran). This humurous picture uses sexuality to make that point.
We can go back and forth on this all day. And it’s understandable that some may take offense. I found the picture trite and a little too broad. I must admit I chuckled at it.
And, frankly, a racy satirical photo is not as bad as sexually harassing a producer or refusing to listen to dissenting arguments.
Really? See, I thought it was about how dailykos is a “hate site”, and that a few nasty posts from a few of the site’s readers represent the views of everyone who writes for and reads it. At least that’s the running mantra over in the – *ahem* – “no spin zone.” However the original posts which the incessently reported upon comments completely refute that idea.
To wit: regarding Tony Snow’s cancer, O’Reilly reported “the Daily Kos thinks the world would be better off without Tony Snow, now that his cancer has come back.” However Kos himself actually said “I wish smooth sailing to Tony Snow and his family through the weeks to come.” This post is followed by 925 comments, 924 of which are supportive of Tony Snow.
That context makes a world of difference, but of course you don’t get context in the “no spin zone”. Because if you were given that context, there would be no story.
in a slanderous, disgusting homosexually suggestive way. Don’t sugarcoat it.
Lieberman isn’t being “submissive” to Bush. They are standing tall, side by side, to confront morons who would endanger their own country in a time of war. Looks like that is you.
And yes, Iran is next. The Iranians will make sure of that, if they continue to kill our troops in Iraq.
Lieberman is the only Dem with any guts to stand for what’s right in this fight.
Well, he was a Dem, anyway.
Also, he did lose a Dem primary, but he won the general, and sent Ned Lament back to his mansion empty handed!
That cost the Dems a seat in the Senate caucus, brilliant maneuver!
Aha! Now I think we’re getting to the heart of the matter. It’s not slanderous since no one is reporting the picture as fact and no reasonable person can interpret is as such.
Is a sexual act between two men what people have the problem with? Gay panic? Gays are “disgusting”?
If that’s the case…well, I don’t think you should be lecturing others on what’s hateful.
Precisely.
The underlying argument behind O’Reilly’s attempts to smear everyone on the political left is that hating is something only people on the left are capable of. This is complete BS and we all know it. Hate knows no political affiliation.
The mere fact that Ann Coulter is presently the leading spokesmodel of the conservative movement in America shoots O’Reilly’s theory down in smoke and flames. The woman is the living embodiment of hate and bigotry in 21st century America. Anyone who works at Fox News – where this fascist is regularly given a soapbox to spout her shrill screed – has no right whatsoever to call anyone else a hater without expecting to be labelled a complete hypocrite.
