Sunday potpourri
Grab bag:
* There was a GOP presidential debate this morning. Kind of odd to have it on a Sunday morning, no? Allah has video of Mitt Romney’s one-liner about Obama.
Vodkapundit liveblogged it.
* On Friday morning, I blogged about the pre-dawn raid in Oakland on the Your Black Muslim Bakery in connection to the brutal murder of maverick journalist Chauncey Bailey. Police say a Muslim bakery employee has confessed to the killing. The bakery is in more trouble:
Devaughndre Broussard told authorities he killed Chauncey Bailey, police Sgt. Tony Jones said.
Bailey, 57, was editor of the Oakland Post, an African-American newspaper.
The Oakland Tribune reported Saturday that Broussard is a handyman at Your Black Muslim Bakery, a business raided by police Friday along with three homes as part of an investigation into other crimes.
Authorities later said they found evidence linking the business to Bailey’s death along with two other slayings.
The Tribune said Broussard told police he killed Bailey because he was angry about Bailey’s past stories about the bakery and concerned about future articles he might be working on. Bailey reportedly was working on a story about a bankruptcy filing by the business at the time he was killed.
After an inspection, Alameda County health officials closed the bakery for unsanitary conditions, said Howard Jordan, Oakland assistant police chief.
The warrants stemmed from an investigation that began in May after a case involving kidnapping, robbery and torture in east Oakland, said Lt. Ersie Joyner, head of the Oakland police homicide unit.
“It became apparent Your Black Muslim Bakery had some involvement in the case,” he said. In addition, police were able to connect two slayings in July — both men shot and killed near the bakery — using gun evidence.
Noel Sheppard points out network TV apathy about the case.
* Surprise, surprise: CAIR Executive Director Placed at HAMAS Meeting.
* Laura Mansfield has the new al Qaeda video featuring Adam Gadahn and exploding motorcades. Rusty has more.
* Scott Johnson’s post about the B.S. of law professor Noah Feldman is a must-read.
* If it’s Sunday, it’s Blogging the Koran with Robert Spencer.
* There’s a memorial today for the bridge collapse victims. Keep them and their families in your thoughts and prayers.
* Plus, true confessions of a Ninja Warrior fan.

I noticed that the CTB article on CAIR’s participation in the 1993 HAMAS summit in Philly was dated Aug 2.
Perhaps the big slam on the YAF meeting in DC was a sloppy attempt to deflect public attention away from this important finding.
The Real Targets
I just wished that people, because the media will never really emphasize it, understand that all the car bombings and slaughter that the insurgents in Iraq and Afghanistan are committing is only incidentially intended on killing people because the main real target is creating appall and dismay and apathy and discouragement in the American public’s mind.

The MSM coverage of the Black Muslim murders in Oakland has been non-existent. Even the local stations coverage has been “lite”.
A friend on the force tells me the Oakland PD believes they have taken out a key connection in gun violence crimes throughout this West Oakland district that borders the increasingly gentrified Emeryville and troubled south Berkeley.
Now if they can just do something about the rampant dogfighting.
What’s with this Sunday morning debate stuff? Now that I think of it…anyone else agree that the GOP debates are like a whisper in the forest?
All the media attention that the Democrat’s debates is dwarfing the GOP ones.
I began by thinking that all this early debating by the Dems was overkill and would cause a feeling of weariness. However, what I’m beginning to see is a feeling of unimportance around the GOP.
This minor radar blip of a debate (which I didn’t even know was on ) is just a perfect example of it.
Concerning the Chauncey Bailey murder…
Wow, it seems that bakery was more like a little shop of horrors.

I didnt know it was on this a.m. either, been up since 3am pdt. and just for a couple of soundbites on FOX thats all I heard about it.
Same goes with the Bakery Bear, not any coverage down here in So. Cal. I think we get faster and better coverage here anyway to tell ya the truth.
re #4-
Oh, i dunno, it’s August. This is vacation month. The primary is 6 months away. Many people with households have back-to-school coming up in September after vacation.
Methinks the Petraeus report in September is going to bring some of the inattentive back into Earth’s atmosphere re candidates- because it will be getting a lot of air time.
I also think there is a savvy part of the electorate that knows most of this early stuff is fluff on both sides- although on Powerline yesterday a good piece was done on Giuliani building his foreign policy brain trust and healthcare platform.
In addition, some of these debates obviously are scaled to give newbie candidates some experience in that type of venue for “debating”.
Things are so staged on these debates. I think the public would tune in more if they weren’t going to be fed the wonkish b.s. on who won and who lost crap from the networks- and got more beef.
My 2 cents.
Waiting for my deli breakfast to arrive!
Being a Sunday morn talk show junkie, I ran into it at the half way mark. But turned the channel.
I am tired of the GOP submitting to the MSM in how the debates are presented.
Why did they agree to such a thing?
Hardly a prime time debate!

ajmontana- yer right about that. you live in medialand…lol. The Bay Area is quite a paradox when it comes to media. An affluent trend-setting, techno-capital with horse and buggy type local reportage. (Oh let’s go to the carney in lower San Jose and “see what’s going on!” Surprise! Lots-o-Mexicans!)
The catfish sandwiches at the Your Black Muslim Bakery were legendary at one time. That was when the Delta wasn’t so polluted. You could drop your hook and pull a big pounder up.
Now all the water is getting bled off to the Central Valley and LA LA land down south.
End of an era. Funny how criminals can give us some of our fondest memories, ennit?
aj- were you up so early because the Barry homer was still coursing through your veins? (BMFG)
Michelle, et all.
We need to get mobilized. The teens from Miami who are trying to lobby for amnesty for their 2 illegal immigrant classmates are generating more and more attention–the article on Time.com
to interviews on Fox News and CNN (supposedly being taped today). In addition to the numerous articles in the Miami Herald. This isn’t about these two kids anymore; they are trying to make the DREAM Act the larger issue.

We killed the shamnesty bill earlier this summer and we need to kill this bill HR 3231 and the momentum accompanying it for the DREAM Act as well.
Actually I live in Palm Desert but we get LA News channels that I never watch (if I wanna know the weather I’ll go outside) thats pretty much the brunt of their telecasts. Our local stations are pretty much copycats of cable and LA News.unless some fossil makes 8 holes in one in a row.
The story doesnt surprise me about the Killer confessing in the Bailey murder and I’d bet Dimes to Donuts the little shop is involved in a whole bunch more of lets say shady behavior than makin crumpets.
Barry who…..lol, I’m an Angel Fan!
I could’ve used the Vodkapundit’s extensive liquor cabinet; that was a(nother) pitiful performance by the presstitutes.
What was worse was my local affiliate (WISN-Milwaukee) delaying things an hour.
I thought that this was actually the best debate so far……. They actually let the candidates speak for more then 15 seconds.
However, they did have a great deal of biased questions and ones aimed specifically at ‘Bush Bashing’. Multiple questions were predicated by first saying ‘The Bush Administrations policy for such and such is this. Do you think that is right or wrong?’ As if all republicans are clones of George W Bush. Have they realized yet that Bush is not running in ‘08? I also enjoyed how the moderators tried to frame the debate of upgrading our bridges and other infrastructure into the fact that we must raise taxes in order to fund the upgrades. In other words: ‘You must raise taxes in order to save lives, Right?’ Oh, by the way… Its the states responsibility to upkeep their infrastructure, not the federal government’s! (good grief)
It was a good debate none the less, but it think it was mainly b/c they gave them more time to speak and didn’t treat it like the interview portion of the Miss America contest.
“presstitutes” Now that’s a good one! Right up there with “fauxtography.”
Thanks. I can’t remember where I got that one from.
We should have a debate on how many more debates there should be before the election.
Oh, com’n, Dersu - don’t you know that the only way to reach the high-tech crowd is to wear a rotating bowtie and flashing red nose whilst being berated by the Muppets? How 20th century!! How unhip!!!
For some reason here in Sacramento the Sacbee chose not to print the story the Black Muslin in Oakland here in the paper and only had info about it on their internet site.
Well the Sacbee does not list the race of any criminals any more so I guess maybe because they would been required to in this case they decided not to cover it.
Anyone know of any other papers around the country who are like the Sacbee and will not print the race of criminals when doing a description of them?
