The Old Grey Lady isn't shrinking, she's getting osteoperosis.

From a media perspective, I can't believe they missed a plum opportunity to appeal to their core base readership: they could have said that they were making the format smaller to save paper in solidarity with those who are attempting to save the forests as well as cut down on waste products destroying the planet. They must be getting slow.

The Jayson Blair Times has already been reduced to nothing intellectually and ethically, as well as financially under Pinchy, so until it is reduced to zero physically, it will remain a scourge.

Maybe they should cut the stock price by 11%, too. That would be a good <em>start</em>.

Mike B(in the bonnet)is spouting the "paper of record." Record of what? All the manipulated news that's unfit to print? World's most notorious left leaning rag without falling over? And of course Mr. B(labber)couldn't resist a shot at MM or GB. After admitting he has read it everyday for 25 years, we can see firsthand brainwashed, unable to think for themselves NYT droids that it has produced.

They should reduce it to the size of a playing card and change the motto to "
All the news that fits." Of course I stole that motto from someone more clever than I am. If I had a better imagination, perhaps I could be a NYT reporter. Maybe they give points for plagiarism?

According to J.D. Hayworth our two newspapers should be called the East Valley Spittoon and the Arizona Repugnant ... but even they are nothing close to the AQ Times ...

They did not need to shrink the physical size paper, all they needed to was cut out the Editoral section. :-)

Sorry, taylork, but the NYT printed the <em>wrong </em>team names when they reported the results of the friggin' <em>World Series</em> last year!

I don't want to read a sports section that can't even get the teams in the World Series correct. What I remember is that it made the local news that the NYT reported that the Cardinals defeated some team other than the Tigers in the World Series, but I can't find anything about it by googling right now.

When they get it down to 3 words or less let me know. Maybe then I'll buy one.

Other than needing something specific in the paper, like a coupon, I still refuse to subsidize these socialists. I haven't bought a paper just to read it in years, and I dearly enjoy watching their death spirals.

The NYT won't go out of business - too many nutroots on that pestilent island to let her completely die. But she will become more and more marginalized. Oh, yes, that will be sweet to watch...

Shopping List

1. Smaller dog
2. Smaller birdcage
3. Smaller cooler

How can the insensitive NY Times editorial staff do this? Don't they know that there are many homeless folks in NYC who depend on the Times for warmth? They're making life for these folks even more difficult than it already is! Let's lobby Congress to combat the trend of shrinking newspapers! Let's start a government program or something. We'll be federally subsidized in no time.

Feeling particularly sarcastic today...

If they'd cut the left side of the paper, maybe they'd sell more.

They could print their editorials on toilet paper. Sheryl Crow could have a mind/body experience one square at a time...

Someone has to do it, I will defend the NY Times. First, most people who condemn it, don't read it anyway. Second, I have read the Times every day (unless I was on vacation) for 25 years. There have been plenty of missteps--Jayson Blair and Judy "We got to destroy Iraq's WMD" Miller are the worst examples. But, the Times investigated itself and their Executive and Managing Editors were fired for it. Too bad the Bush Administration doesn't have the same accountability. Third, all most agree: The Times is far from perfect, but it's the best overall newspaper in the U.S. and the paper of record. Fourth, just because MM was turned down for an internship at the Times while at college, should not mean she should constantly attack it.
