Agreed – and this is all occurring during a time when a graduating student cannot even speak of how they were granted their success by God at a graduation ceremony without their microphone being turned off and censored.

I went to a Catholic high school where I took a course on Islam. It was presented as a beautiful religion in the Judeo-Christian tradition. There was no “sharia creep.”

Rusty- It must have been a very liberal “Catholic” high school to present Islam in that light. I’m getting an M.A. in Theology at a Catholic grad school in the evenings, and I can tell you Islam is NOT in the Judeo-Christian tradition.

Roy Schoeman, a Jewish convert to Catholicism, has discussed this in Salvation Is from the Jews published by Ignatius. Catholics believe that Judaism was the only religion with the fullness of truth until Christ. Other religions before Christ, such as Buddhism and Hinduism, had aspects of the truth.

Islam is the only major religion to have been revealed after Christ, which Catholics believe set up the Church. So, by Catholic belief, “Allah” could not possibly be the same God that we believe in. It was probably a fallen angel, in fact the moon god of Arabia.

Devout believers generally become more like the diety they believe in. For Christians, the aim is to become more humble, charitable, and pure. For Muslims, devout believers generally become more violent, intolerant, and sensual.

So your “Catholic” high school presented a false picture of Islam, leading me to believe it was not an orthodox Catholic school.

If writing “Jesus Christ is the Son of God” is wrong, then “Allah is God” is verbotten, too. If the Allah item is OK in the name of diversity, then so are mentions of Christian tenets.

As if that would happen!

maybe you should go talk to the madrassa being set up in New York and convince them how well you benefitted from diverse religious teachings from a christian school. i’m sure they will be more than willing to incorporate some enlightening classes on the other religions in the world other than islam and the students will become more worldly, informed and tolerant in the process; because everybody knows how tolerant and accepting of opposing viewpoints Islam is compared to Christianity.

Personally, I am not worried about a three week course turning the average american into martyrs for mohammed. I’m worried about that three week course being a larger part of a unified effort from outside forces to convince not only the MSM, but also the average american into giving Islam a wider birth.

I’m not against learning other perspectives. But if all perspectives are not represented fairly, as in all religions given equal time, then you either pay out of pocket to send you kid to a private school or they wait until they go to college and then study whatever they want…for a price, that is.

Obviously my view of Islam has evolved and I agree that Islam is given too wide a birth by the “MSM.” That does not mean a 3-week class on Islamic culture will turn your sons and daughters into martyrs for Mohammed. I benefitted from taking classes on Islam and Buddhism and Atheism and Judaism along with my Christian studies. There’s nothing wrong with learning other perspectives. Even if it’s the perspective of the enemy.

There is something wrong with violating the seperation between Church and State. In any situation. Focus on that. It comes off a lot better than tinfoil conspiracies of a future dystopian America where we’re all under sharia law speaking Spanish. That sort of talk is nuts. Why are liberals the ones who are always sterotyped as having the tinfoil hats?
