Murtha is a coward. There is no excuse for his original comments and no excuse for not making an apology when it is shown how wrong he was. I wouldn’t think anyone in the military or their families would support such a man.

Murtha is such a loser. It’s a pity his mouth has only caused embarrassment instead of pride for our commonwealth.
Speaking of embarrassments, I finally received a reply from Sen. Arlen Specter (via USPS) on my numerous emails concerning the shamnesty bill. Sen. Specter states that our immigrations system is broken, he believes that the “grand compromise” that failed to pass had many solutions to the problems we still face, yada yada yada.
To cut a long letter short, he believes the failed shamnesty bill should be enacted. Pathetic. Just pathetic.
Why is there such little press coverage and discussion about our patriots up on these charges? I don’t think most of America is even aware that we are trying to convict our men for fighting a war.

Michelle, forgive if my language may strain or stray. I had never written an ode to my Dad. He was always just ‘there’, just ‘being a pain’. Just showing us the way, whether we wanted to watch, or listen or not.
Murtha is ‘puke’, (small letter ‘puke’). He can never again in this life call himself a ‘MARINE’. He takes his own life in his hands walking into any Marine Reunion or or memorial. If my Dad was alive and reacted with hostility to this ‘hotdog’, I’m sure Dad would be arrested as a ‘Hater’. My Pop was shot and left for dead on Guam; Thank the Lord Marines don’t leave their dead in the field, (and ,yes I know the other reason). When his buddies dragged their ‘dead buddie’ back by the heels and hit a stream, he moaned. His friends were startled - ‘Jes**s Roy’s still alive. He had been hit by a ‘brass jacket’ from the front, missing a lung by that quarter inch. On exit the ‘brass jacket’ hit the shoulder blade taking quite a chunk of ribs and shoulder blade off into the jungle, the mess looked obviously fatal, except for that quarter inch and buddies coming under fire to retrieve . After months his evacuation brought him to Seattle for rehab. He met Mom there, she was also Military, (Not many remember ‘Spars’, Coast Guard Ladies in service).
Dad took advantage of the GI Bill and some disability. He became a ‘Photoengraver’, second only to “diamond cutting’ in skill level. He always paid his bills, he always honored the ‘3rd Division’. He never accepted full disability. Most young men believe their ‘Dad’ is the baddest MF in the world. I know mine was. In 1969 they were drafting MARINE. Dad told me I’d better be good at it ’cause’ he’d kill me. Whatever, that’s why I became a sailor.
My Dad was just ‘Our Dad’. He did what he knew had to be done.. He knew we had won, but the fight to give his children what he had fought for was only a start.
It’s unseemly, the emotions this has awakened. I’ve had to take a bathroom break, I have screamed at my ‘marsh’ because that is where the focus of our world is for me. ‘All that is real is illusion’.
I know I’m not he only ‘Boomer’ whose Dad sacrificed to allow us to achieve the life we can show our children, but I don’t even understand the source of the hate that ‘The Murtha’ slathers on our history. I Puke on you Murtha, my Father would crush your windbox, windbag, if he would have realized how corrupt a world you wish to excrete on his Grandchildren.

Murtha! Stand Down and Resign Your Post!
Jack Murtha, always brings up his military service Vietnam era. One of the best movies, I ever watched about the Vietnam War, which message is still relevant today is “Go Tell The Spartans” with Burt Lancaster, reference to the 300 Spartans who stood fought and died. Murtha brings up his Military Service. Other people LIVE their Military Service and you never hear from them. There are American Marines still fighting and dying today, in a “Shooting War”

As the son of a Iwo Jima Marine Vet, I know he would find Jack Murtha’s actions deplorable.
I never heard my father speak ill of any soldier. And this example of political pandering by using a battlefield incident before anything was ever known for a fact - and smearing the honor of our brave fighting men would have him red with anger.
I’m only glad that he’s not here to see how low a fellow Marine would stoop to gain political points.
Jack, you should be ashamed and publicly apologize to not only these Marines and their families - but to the Country.

My father is also a WW2 Marine—no finer man every lived. He just turned 83 and is confined to a wheelchair but his posture straightens when he hears the Marine Hymn. God bless them all—each veteran who served today and in all wars, but WW2 veterans have a special place in my heart. Thank you.
Murtha is a fine example of what happens when hate overpowers the thought process. How he could say what he did about the Marines without knowing the facts is beyond me. He should be recalled.
My Uncle Frank was a Navy corpsman killed on Iwo Jima. His letters were filled with tales for his younger brothers (my Dad was one of them)about the bravery of Marines on Iwo. UN-FREAKIN-BE-LIEVE-ABLE.
As long as there are American Marines our enemies do not have a prayer of winning *ANYTHING*. And critics of Marines are the lowest of the low.

Did the report recommend all charges against the other 2 Marines charged with murder be dropped due to insufficient evidence, eyewitness accounts, a guilty verdict would set a dangerous precedent, etc???
And what is the status of the other four who allegedly failed to investigate? Is the evidence weak against them too?
I agree that everyone (politicians included) need to remember that everyone has the right to a fair trial and is innocent until proven guilty in the court of law. Any U.S. Citizen… any member of the Armed Forces like Lance Corporal Sharratt, or private citizens like O.J. Simpson, Barry Bonds, Mark McGuire, Michael Jackson, Duke Lacrosse players, Kobe, Democrat, Republican… everyone has the right to a fair trial and innocent until proven guilty in the court of law.
Murtha is dishonest, disgraceful, despicable, detestable, disingenuous, just an all-around dirty dog. Pithy enough?
I think Murtha has become mentally unbalanced and more than a little carried away with his power. Another example of why we need TERM LIMITS.
I really dislike this man. He’s a powerhungry pork addict. All this he was doing to suck up to Pelosi and be named Majority Leader. That’s what this was all about, and that makes it even more pathetic, in my view. His position in Congress is worrisome also. He’s the Chairman of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, which means he’s in charge of giving the services their money! He’s also the creator of that “slow bleed” strategy of stopping the war by making it impossible for the C-n-C to field the troops the mission requires. Sickening.

When I was in boot camp at PI our Senior Drill Instructer taught use about the 10% rule. That there will be 10% of Marines who do not live up to our motto of Semper Fidelis (Always Faithful). I can say with out fear of contradiction that Jack Murtha falls into the 10% rule. Also a U.S. Marine does not steal, cheat nor lie. Semper Fi

I don’t see what the uproar is here. They are investigating an alleged crime. Let them do there job. Already two have been proven innocent - let’s see what happens to the rest.
Marines are not perfect, there are always bad apples in any cart. Some lie, some cheat and some steal. They are not perfect. They are only human.

There is a War going on, War is not civilized. I can only comment on my own experience, with Military Service People, we have Intelligent, Dangerous People defending us.

The uproar, Murtha didn’t wait for the investigation to be completed and now he can’t be reached for comment.
I am confused which way is it, you want it? All wait for investigations to be complete or it is alright for Murtha not to wait for the investigations to be complete?
The investigation is STILL not completed - there are plenty of Marines still under investigation in this case.
Why should Murtha comment or say anything about it now? One minute people are moaning for him talking too much - the next for not saying anything.

That story is from the government owned CBC, and it’s a year old. He lied about the “Pentagon source”, and if the “source” got it wrong, Murtha should never have gone public with his accusations. Now that he has, and he’s been proven wrong, he’s got to be held to account for throwing our Marines under the bus for his attempt to suck up to Pelosi and be Majority Leader. That’s what that was all about, his own power. Disgustingly typical.

Is there a source I can read this? The origianal article said that this Marine was the second one with the charges dropped. So… if 7 of 8 are cleared, that would mean that there should have been a third one with the charges dropped too. Right?

I’ll explain the honor code to the civilians among us. Marines don’t steal they acquire. That means you adapt overcome, and do what you can, to accomplish the mission at hand. Example: If you have to “borrow” a HUMVEE that’s left unattended to deliver MRE’S it’s okay, as long as you bring it back. The Marine lie, cheat or steel means if you violate our core values you’re not a “Marine.” Our core values (the code) are Honor, Courage and commitment. I’ll expand. As per NAVMC 11341/97 USMC——–this is from memory!!!!!

This idea of holding up Murtha as a Marine is laughable to me. After having been raised by a truly honorable Marine - several visits to Pendleton - and an absolutely memorable visit to the Barracks at 8th and I where “Pride” and “Honor” are not just nouns or slogans, but part of the fabric of life - Congressman Murtha’s rush to judgement for political reasons, his checkered past history including ABSCAM, and his greedy grubbing of earmarks - makes me realize how true the 10% rule really is.
That pig will go down someday,for being a crook if nothing else. I was from PA for 40 years, I’m glad I moved.

Listen up sausage; I’ve seen plenty of battalion staff officers in Vietnam,if I’d been one, istead of an infantryman, I wouldn’t admit it. Most never bothered to get thier fat asses out from behind thier desks. I don’t know what Murtha could have done to earn any combat decoration, except kiss his COs butt. Sound like another John Kerry moment to me.
Sausage, Benedict Arnold’s many successful campaigns included the Capture of Fort Ticonderoga (1775), the Invasion of Canada (1775), victory at the Battle of Valcour Island on Lake Champlain in 1776, the battles of Danbury and Ridgefield in Connecticut (after which he was promoted to Major General), and the Battle of Saratoga in 1777. Does he sound like a traitor to you?
Other than his year in Vietnam, Murtha’s military service was almost exclusively inside the beltway. He is not the soldiers’ soldier, he is the politicians’ soldier.
No surprise there.

My point of view on this issue, is from being an Army Wife, the sign on Army Wife has already been taken. That said, There is a “Shooting War” going on where is Murtha’s benefit of a doubt for his fellow Marines? Innocent until proven guilty right?
The MSM had no problem quoting Murtha, when he made his prejudged statements about these Marines. Where is the MSM now or our so called Fourth Estate- The Press. I want them camped on his door step, till we get an answer on this Issue. The Treatment of Marines in Combat, how many fronts would you like them to fight on? The Homeland Front too, the one they are busy defending?
It is very sad to see Jack Murtha today and compare him to what he was back in the 1970’s and 80’s.
Murtha was one of a handful of Democrats who built the modern American military during the Reagan years. While The John Kerry and Ted Kennedy’s were voting to kill every major weapons system Reagan/Weinberger proposed, it was Murtha and some southern Democrats who pushed those programs through.
Remember, Reagan had nothing close to a majority in the House at that time and needed 29 Democratic votes to get anything passed. Murtha was a strong advocate both on the Armed Services Committee and the floor for the Reagan buildup.
So what happened? I think he got ambitious and wanted that Majority Leader’s spot. In fact, you might recall that Pelosi wanted to give it to him. But his ABSCAM involvement took care of that.
What that ambition did to him was pitiful; he became just another leftist in the House - even though his politics used to be much more moderately conservative.
If he runs again, he will be vulnerable to a decent GOP candidate. Let’s hope they find one.
Addressing Sausage’s point -
I’m sure at some point in his military service, Murtha was and honorable Marine - at least there is no proof I’ve seen that he wasn’t.
However, upon his transition into politics, he has shown that even a Good Marine can go bad.
His status as an unindicted co-conspirator in Abscam was the beginning. His reputation as being an earmark ‘king’ continued his legacy. When these Marines were accused of wrong-doing, he was one of the first and loudest voices against them. This was before any evidence was reviewed, any statements documented, anything at all.
And his motive when doing so was purely, 100% political. He doesn’t care about any Iraqi’s at Haditha. He doesn’t care about the ‘Honor of the Corps.’ It was an election cycle and he was propping himself up alongside the possible future Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi. He gave an air of legitimacy to the anti-war Dems due to his prior service.
But by speaking out as he did, he had convicted these Marines before it was right to do so.
Now - as one-by-one - these Marines are cleared of wrongdoing, he sits silent. I’m not saying that, in the end, perhaps one or more of these Marines may be held accountable for wrongful actions. But for a sitting US Congressman and former Marine to call these soldiers cold-blooded killers is beyond the pale, out of line, and dishonorable for someone who once wore the Anchor & Globe ensignia.
Sausage want to talk about military records. Look at Benadict Arnold’s military record during the revolutionary war right before he turned the plans for Fortess West Point over to Maj J. Andre, Arnold was a war hero up to that point. George Washington thought Bendict Arnold a brave and honorable man right up to the point he found out that his friend rip his heart out with betrayal. My point honorable one day, scoundrel the next. As with Arnold as with Murtha Money,fame and power is the motivating factor of both men.
