The return of the Eagles

They’re coming back to Washington, D.C. Will you stand with them? As you’ll recall, the first Gathering of Eagles in March to counter the White Flag mob drew unprecedented masses to the nation’s capital in support of the troops and their mission. In 33 days, the Eagles and a number of similar organizations plan to answer the ANSWER crowd again.

GOE is holding a Freedom Walk on September 10 and Operation Eagle Justice on September 15.

Eagles Landing “will assemble in Washington, D.C. on September 15, 2007 in support of America, our troops, and our fallen brothers and sisters.”

fight.jpg

Move America Forward will once again lead a cross-country caravan to D.C. as part of the Fight for Victory tour:

Supporters of Operation Iraqi Freedom will conduct a nationwide caravan along with more than 2-dozen rallies calling for continued support of U.S. troops based in Iraq in the days leading up to General David Petraeus September 15th report to Congress.

From September 3, 2007 through September 15, 2007 the nation’s largest grassroots, pro-troop organization, Move America Forward will lead thousands of supporters in a cross-country effort called the “FIGHT FOR VICTORY TOUR.”

Here’s MAF’s itinerary.

And the Vets for Freedom “are mobilizing Iraq and Afghanistan veterans to engage members of Congress during the entire month of August and tell them that General Petraeus needs adequate troops, time, and resources to complete the mission in Iraq.” Sign up here for the Sept. 17-18 mission.

Mark these dates and events on your calendars. Donate. Volunteer. Spread the word. If you missed the 1st GOE, this is your chance to make your voice heard, bear witness to history, and make a difference.

Between now and Sept. 15 we need to really step up the calls/letters/faxes to our politicians and media showing our support for staying in Iraq until the Iraqi goverment can sustain itself and their own security. We especially need to pressure the Dems who are already planning how they can help us loose even if Gen. Petraeus’ report shows substantial progress.

Can’t be there physically, but I will definitely be there in spirit and dropped some spare cash for signage. Bless you all.

Will also keep an eye out for local ANSWER/MoveOn/Revolting Students rallies (very likely in Wisconsin).

Wish I could go, but looks like I can only send money to support the cause. With the fiscal year closing out I haven’t seen leave in Sep or Oct for a very long time. Somebody has to fight the battle of the budget and I get to do it for my Squadron and Wing. Those that have the opportunity to go to represent those of us that can’t thank you for the sacrifice of your time and money to show the troops someone does support them and we won’t be silent ever again.

Perhaps this time, some troop supporting politicians and maybe even the Pres. will have guts enough to stand with the Eagle Patriots.

Nothing has filled me with more American pride than the last gathering of Eagles, not for a long long time.

Mark 23, one good way to have more notice on things like this is to follow the milblogs. I posted about Eagles Landing and added Eagles Landing buttons to the sidebars on my personal site and the group blog I’m the webmaster for on 15 July.

This is one of those things that I see as being a key contributor to the division of this country. When I read this, I see people gathering for support of the troops. Great, more power to them.

But then it is linked with the “support the Iraq War.” There is no middle ground. I said it a few weeks ago in the “white flag dems” thread and I’ll say it again.

    To too many people:
dissent = unamerican = not supporting the troops

To really “move america forward” this country cannot be divided with rhetoric such as this because there are many people who are against the Iraq War who support the troops and love their country very much.

A little background for DarkNight (and anyone else who was too busy to click that Eagles Landing link):

The site that link points to was created by a Viet Nam era vet at the request of COL Harry Riley, USA, Ret., who was also very instrumental in making the Gathering Of Eagles the success it was. Nearly all the content for the site (ignoring the forum for the moment) so far has been created by that vet and a handful of others. OWB, who writes most of the blog posts, for instance, enlisted during the Viet Nam war and hung around long enough to serve in Operation Desert Storm. (She also handled a lot of the logistics planning for GOE). It might be interesting to contrast what you’ve done in your lifetime to contribute to this nation’s well-being to COL. Riley, OWB, The Gray Dog, 1st Cav, Rurik, or any of several others working in the background to make Project Eagles Landing a success. They aren’t picky about who they let into the forum (click the link at the top of the main page) — maybe you’d enjoy going there and explaining to them how patriotic it is to “support the troops” by opposing their mission.

Michelle, a minor quibble about your math: Sept. 15 is 34 days from now, not 33. I wouldn’t bring it up except that makes it a Saturday, not a Friday, which might have a major affect on the number of people who can be there that day.

Is this connected with the “Stop the Islamisation of Europe” rallies planned for September 11th? This was originally planned for Brussels (headquarters of the EU). Now their website claims that there will be simultaneous rallies in America, Canada and Australia (still need to bring in India, Israel, Nigeria, Russia, Serbia, among others). You make a decent point. Dissent is not unamerican, but neither is mindless dissent american.

Disagree, certainly. More power to you.

But have fact and reason behind you. Otherwise you’re just a loon who doesn’t care about anything but the message.

They are running this absurd commercials around here about global warming. Parents talking to their kids, telling them they are going to make the world better for them. One line jumps out at me, but I want to substitute “Global Jihad” for “Global Warming”….

The jiberal parent says she doesnt want to tell her child when it’s grown that that” We knew how to stop Global (Jihad) Warming but didnt do anything about it.”

The prevailing jiberal mindset around here re “dissent’ about the war is that it is misdirecting the resources needed to solve the most pressing problem of our time- Global Warming.

They dissent by saying we can solve the problems in the Middle East by talking.

mmm-hmmmm. Ya. I’d say that’s not dissent- it is insanity: doing the same things over and over again and expecting different results.

Surak, pretty sure it’s not. I don’t stay in close contact with the GOE people any more but if Operation Eagles Landing was tied to the rallies you mentioned I’m pretty sure I’d have heard about it. A couple of the Eagles Landing people also post at Old War Dogs, the group site I host, and a couple of the others routinely email me about anything they think I should post about.

    Bush is a war criminal…
    Bush is Hitler…
    Protesting soldiers at Walter Reed…
    Spitting on servicemen…
“they are terrorizing Iraqis in the dead of night”…
    Torture..torture..torture…
    This is an illegal war…
    Bush’s War…
    Another viet-nam….
Bush is the worlds biggest terrorist…

Personally I like Miller’s take on it…”even if I didn’t agree with the war I would KEEP MY MOUTH SHUT while those brave young men and women are in harms way…..

Well said, dartagnans_blade. I’ve been home right on 35 years but I still remember what it feels like to pick up a newspaper in a war zone and read about the protests back home. I also remember what it feels like to watch Congress abandon people you’ve risked your life and lost friends trying to help. Our troops then deserved better than that and our troops today deserve better than that.

Well, that would put them in the “loon” catagory, now wouldn’t it? :)

I mean, if they would say “I disagree with the war, and here are my reasons why” and give a list devoide of things like ‘Bush lied, people died’ and ‘no blood for oil’, I’d be willing to talk…

Sadly, I don’t expect that to happen any time soon…
