On November 15, 2006, ESPN reported that U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein, a former mayor of San Francisco planned to sponsor a bill to prevent the 49ers from retaining any reference to San Francisco in their name, preventing gameday shuttles to Santa Clara and other provisions if the team were to move away from San Francisco.
-Wikipedia

Good. I look forward to the rise of the Santa Clara 49ers. Feinswine just took careful aim at her foot, switched to full-auto, and let rip.

But it’s true! Everyone knows that San Francisco is proudly the home base of STAR FLEET!
-jamesgreenridge

I doubt that would happen even when we have one. That's one of those "alternate realities".

“The Blue Angels are totally unnecessary,” said a resolution supporter. “I believe they are sent here to terrorize this town because we are an anti-war city.”

So the most skilled pilots on earth, flying some of the most sophisticated equipment on earth - which has NO weapons/ammo of any sort - terrorizes you?

Apparently we could take over SanFran with 5 guys with butter knives...

These are the same people that took ROTC out of their high schools and do everything they can to hinder/restrict recruiting on the university campuses.

The next time they have a disaster and plead for help from the government, I hope the military tells them to call a hippie.

And the Navy should move fleet week to a city that would appreciate the dollars. Such as Kansas City or Omaha . . .er, maybe San Diego.

bear1909 - Had to leave last night for a HOA meeting...why do those always turn into verbal assualts? Yuk. Anyhoo, missed reading all of the responses until today. Some great comments.

Just wanted to say, I'm so envious of your view of the bay. Has to be spectacular viewing at night.

I've seen the Blue Angels in San Francisco. The crowd watching them is huge, of course who knows how many of them actually live in SF. I would have to agree with what's been said - there's not a better place to watch them fly.

I cannot think of one positive thing San Fran Cisco has brought to this world.

San Francisco has been a jewel in America's crown in history. They have come up with more innovative ideas than any other city. Golden Gate was financed locally, the Bay Bridge is an amazing piece of architecture, their street cars were state of the art and necessary when they first made them.

I've visited a few times and had a great time. I was a 'dead head' in college so I appreciated even the Haight-Asbury region of the city.

That is the shame of it all though. It IS a beautiful part of the country. It would be a great place to live. But the 'tolerance police' are intolerant to anything they disagree with. The people there now are nothing about peace and love. Now they are about 'dissent for dissent's sake'. It is a shame because I know there are a lot of awesome Americans in San Francisco. They just get shouted down by the 'tolerance police'.

The military demonstration teams are a symbol of national strength, skill and pride. That is why the leftist tools hate them so much. They would rather have a May Day parade Soviet style, with a bunch of unwashed stoned hippie types instead.

All of our military's teams are great fun to see, if you aren't an anti-freedom neo-communist.

The Blue Angels

Air Force Thunderbirds

Many of you may not know this, but the U.S. Army has a parachute demonstration team that G.H.W. Bush jumped with on his birthday a couple of years ago, and Brit Hume jumped also. That was pretty cool, and more of a reason for SF libs to hate it:)

Golden Knights

Throughout the Cold War, these demonstration teams, and their Soviet and Warsaw Pact counterparts, had their own PR war on behalf of their sponsors. Our guys represented us in a fantastic way for decades, and they helped us win. The Russians have seen the spectacular public relations and recruiting success of our teams, and they got in the game in 1991.

Russian Knights Areobatic Team

This stuff is so much fun to see, and it fills me with a fierce pride in my country when I see a B-2 Spirit flyover at an NFL game, or any demonstration of the professional excellence of all our military aviators. Anyone remember the helicopter heroics by our U.S. Coast Guard when a disaster struck our Gulf Coast region? They rescued 30,000 people!

San Francisco has been a Navy town for decades, and I don't think these morons are going to be able to change that, at least not yet. Too many Americans are too proud of what we have in our military to let them be slandered like this. Backlash in 3...2...1...

Well I'm probably not going to score any points with this one, but I live in SF and I personally don't care much for the Blue Angels, although it has nothing to do with the military. They're just too noisy for my taste. But what's even more noisy and annoying is that arrogant, self-serving gasbag Chris Daly. He has made a career sniffing out divisive issues like this in order to garner national attention. The best solution in cases like this is to just ignore him. Please. You're only egging him on.

While Daly probably has support within his district on this issue, he completely disregards the fact that this doesn't just involve SF, it's the entire bay area. As someone above pointed out, you can see the Blue Angels from many vantage points within the greater bay area, and if the Blue Angels are your bag, there is probably no more beautiful a place in the country to watch them. I'll buy earplugs. Everyone is happy.
