Political indigestion: Another Code Pink hunger strike

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 13, 2007 05:01 AM

Hide the ice cream and coffee! Code Pink’s going on a hunger strike again:

Marghi Dutton is 90 and losing her eyesight, but nothing was going to stop her from trekking to midspan of the Golden Gate Bridge on Sunday with the anti-war group Code Pink: Women for Peace.

She joined a crowd of about 100 demonstrators dressed in hot pink hats, shirts and scarves and fought the wind to raise her sign: “Impeach Bush and Cheney!”

“My arms are aching, but I’m getting energy from the drivers — so many are honking in support,” she said.

Code Pink, a national grassroots peace movement inspired by Bay Area women, organized the protest to call for an immediate end to the war in Iraq and immediate impeachment proceedings against President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.

Protesters walked from the bridge to the Pacific Heights home of Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., set up camp, cooked one last carbohydrate-heavy meal and began a hunger strike. About 40 gathered on some terraced steps near the senator’s home, along with a half-dozen police officers.

“We have about eight people who are going to stop eating, including me,” Code Pink spokeswoman Nancy Mancias said.

On Wednesday, the group plans to relocate the hunger strike to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s home on Broadway, where they will urge the San Francisco Democrat to hold a town hall meeting with constituents.

Hard to believe it’s been just over a year since I gained weight on the Cindy Sheehan Diet Plan:

Here we go again. Do these ladies realise how pathetically embarrassing these stunts are? I guess not.

Whenever there is a Capitol Hill hearing involving generals from the Iraq theater on C-SPAN I try to catch it, and there usually is Medea Benjamin in that stupid pink paper crown right in the front row of the gallery, nodding and shaking her head, being generally annoying.

Thanks for the vent memories, that was a good one! Now I’m off to catch my breakfast, a mocha cappuchino!

Too bad they are doing this in California. I would have been willing to take my lunch downtown every day of their strike, and eat in front of them.

I always love the wackos that want something done, and bitch and moan when it doesn’t happen, but never offer any relevance or facts for the case. Maybe if they would get a legal mind in there, state the law, and show how Bush-Cheney violated that law, someone in their party would be sympathetic.

It was easy with Clinton: Bill lied under oath in a court of law! That was a violation of the most basis of American principles.

So let’s see: Bush lied to Congress

Disproven- Bush presented the evidence that the White House had, which agreed with the evidence The House and Senate Intelligence committees had, which agreed with the intel many other nations had, all of which showed that Saddam Hussien was violating 16 UN sanctions, and a bunch more UN statements.

There! I helped you nutroots with one. Please do every one in America a favor, and do the damned analysis before you open your mouths again! Looks like you’ll have plenty of time, since you aren’t going to be eating.

Maybe they’ll starve themselves to death and get rid of some of those greenhouse gasses they eminate. I know, I know, I know that was mean. But seriously, these people tend to gain weight on their hunger strikes. Seriously, ice cream parlors and jamba juice aren’t known for their low calorie fare.

I see the protesters, they carry their signs. Taunting and cursing, your sons and mine. Our daughters they serve, making us proud. The protest is coming, see who’s in that crowd.

I see the people, they cower in fear. The one that would rule them, no protest they hear. The cruelty and torture, the bodies pile high. The despot unsated, the protest goes by.

Where in the world is the protest that’s true? Where death and destruction, is given its due? Where the monsters are brought, for the whole world to see. Protest the protest, who will you be.

Code Winkee is at it again. And they don’t even know how to do it correctly.

I have fasted for spiritual and political reasons many times during my adult life.
The last thing one should do before beginning a fast is eat a “carbohydrate rich” meal.

Why ? Because it causes a dramatic rise in blood sugar levels. Then after the crash, if you are still awake, you want to eat…..sugars to be exact. The body craves it
to kick start the metabolism, so it craves some “hair of the dog.” Might explain why Cindy SheBiscuit was living on J*mba Juice during her last one.

Want to do it right? And lose weight? Increase your protein consumption to nearly 1g per pound of total body weight. Makes your highly evolved metabolism signal the brain “Not starving. Getting enough protein. Do not store fat.” Increase protein consumption for at least a week before you stop eating. Then during that week, replace 2 of the 8 small meals you eat in a day (1800-2000 calories total if not exercising), with 64 ounces of lemon water (2 lemons squeezed into filtered water).

During the fast, consume 2 gallons of water daily because your body is going to begin digesting muscle tissue to maintain minimal protein consumption to do its daily work of rebuilding all of its systems. And water flushes the kidneys which can get toxically overloaded during a starvation cycle. Avoid fruit and vegetable juices. These will trigger unregulated bowel release and deplete your electrolyte and minerals too quickly.

Four days without solid food, or any food for that matter, can be good for you if you know what you are doing. Out here we fast in lodges for four days without food or water and benefit spiritually, mentally, and physically from it. But this involves some very skillful care from elders and special people among us who protect us from harm. We do it once a year. But we don’t do it for political reasons or to build our resumes.

What Code Winkee is doing is tantamount to saying they are going to hold their breath until Bush is impeached.

I hope they let us know how that’s working for them.

I would worry about the persons who would be so cruel as to set up a Bar-B-Q across the street. That would be cruel and inhuman. I only wish I lived nearby so I could be the one to start the coals. Alas, I live on the right coast!
