Update 11:15pm Eastern 8/20. The open-borders movement carries on. Planning for a new massive, pro-amnesty demonstration in Washington on Sept. 12 is underway–and Arellano’s supporters are pushing Sen. Barack Obama to sponsor a private bill to give a humanitarian visa to the deportation evader:
In Chicago this morning, more than 50 Arellano supporters demonstrated outside immigration offices at 536 S. Clark St., carrying signs reading “Stop the Raids” and “Stop Enforcing Racist Laws.”
Via speakerphone, Chicago activist Emma Lozano, who was with Arellano in Los Angeles, spoke to the demonstrators.
“Her spirits are high,” Lozano told the crowd, adding that federal officials sought “to silence her and clip her wings.”
Planning continued for a major demonstration Sept. 12 on the Mall in Washington to highlight the plight of illegal immigrants, Lozano said. Calling it “A Day Without Immigrants,” Lozano said the protest would revolve around a national boycott in which immigrants would be called on to stay away from their jobs and classrooms and refrain from making any purchases.
After demonstrating outside the Chicago immigration offices, the protesters moved on to the Kluczynski Federal Building, 230 S. Dearborn St., where five of them went up to the local office of Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) to urge him to introduce a private bill to provide a humanitarian visa for Arellano.

Hundreds gathered in Chicago Monday morning to protest the arrest and deportation of illegal immigrant and immigration activist Elvira Arellano.
She was whisked away to Mexico Sunday after her arrest in Los Angeles. Now immigration activists say they’re fight is even stronger.
CBS 2’s Kristyn Hartman was at the rally near the immigration offices here in Chicago. She reports that the demonstration was peaceful – yet forceful.
Dozens and dozens of people came to the corner of Congress and Clark to protest the deportation of Elvira Arellano. They support the 32-year-old woman who admittedly re-entered the country illegally to be with her son. Eight-year-old Saul Arellano is a U.S. citizen.
More: “U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials are slated to have a news conference at noon in Chicago to discuss Arellano’s arrest and deportation.”

An illegal immigrant who took refuge in a Chicago church for a year to avoid being separated from her U.S.-born son has been deported to Mexico, the church’s pastor said.
Elvira Arellano became an activist and a national symbol for illegal immigrant parents as she defied her deportation order and spoke out from her religious sanctuary. She held a news conference last week to announce that she would finally leave the church to try to lobby U.S. lawmakers for change.
She had just spoken at rally Los Angeles rally when she was arrested Sunday outside Our Lady Queen of Angels church and deported, said the Rev. Walter Coleman, pastor of Adalberto United Methodist Church in Chicago, where Arellano had been living.
“She has been deported. She is free and in Tijuana,” said Coleman, who said he spoke to her on the phone. “She is in good spirits. She is ready to continue the struggle against the separation of families from the other side of the border.”
You’ve probably heard by now: Elvira Arellano, the illegal alien activist and deportation evader who left her Chicago church sanctuary to attend a pro-amnesty march in Los Angeles, was arrested.
Elvira Arrellano, a Mexican woman who sought sanctuary from deportation in a Chicago church was arrested Sunday in Los Angeles.
A spokesperson from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency would not confirm Arrellano was taken in by ICE agents on Olvera Street, near La Placita Church, in the Los Angeles Civic Center area at about 3 p.m.
Arellano and her son Saul, 8, who is a U.S. citizen, were in Los Angeles seeking immigration reform and were staying at La Placita Church.
She visited three area churches to speak about immigration, but was arrested before she could go to a fourth church.
Arellano defied a deportation order to report to the Department of Homeland Security on Aug. 15, 2006. Instead, she sought refuge in the Adalberto United Methodist Church in the Humboldt Park area of Chicago.
According to the New Sanctuary Movement, more than 600,000 families in the United States have at least one member facing deportation because they are illegal residents.

Arellano was “being processed for removal to Mexico based upon a deportation order originally issued by a federal immigration judge in 1997,” U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said in a news release.

“We are sad, but at the same time we are angry,” said Javier Rodriguez, a Chicago immigration activist who worked with her. “How dare they arrest this woman?”

Looks like the U.S. is going to be a Latino country in about 20 years, barring a civil war. Looks like it’s probably already too late. I went to the mall in Southern California this weekend and saw almost no white people. The political class really, really wants the U.S. to be like Mexico.

I can answer Mr. Steyn’s question in one simple word. Profits. I have lived in Texas for 20 years, and I have watched good paying, working class jobs become essentially unavailable to citizens and naturalized Americans. Less than a generation ago, a man could make a decent middle class living as a plumber, welder, electrician, construction worker, or in a variety of other trades. Those jobs were hard work, but they provided decent wages and benefits for many millions. Most of those jobs now go to illegals at very low wages. Who benefits from this scheme?
The payroll savings simply rolls into the pockets of business owners, instead. I’m all for a free market economy, and I am pro-business. At what point do we halt the race to the bottom? They don’t want to stop the huge profits, so they lobby for open borders, and flaunt our existing laws. We wouldn’t stand for a drug company refusing to comply with the FDA and releasing drugs that were unsafe. We wouldn’t stand for a business that defied the EEOC, or bribed officials.
Why do you imagine that thousands of people show up to apply for a few hundred jobs when a WalMart opens? Nothing wrong with WalMart, but many of these same folks would have had real career options 15 years ago. Now, they have WalMart and Home Depot to choose from. Hoo-ray? Not everyone in America can be a neurosurgeon or a patent attorney. We need decent jobs for people who don’t want to or cannot make it through a Phd program in Engineering.

Savage had a caller last Wednesday from a Hispanic American citizen who mentioned that there is growing alarm in the legal Hispanic community (native or legal immigrant) over identity theft. Because of the greater commonality with Hispanic names, identity theft is all too easy when can find with ease a legal victim with the exact same name. I’m interested to see what comes about from the legal Hispanic community over illegals going on a identity theft spree against them…
It will be interesting to see how the media spin this. After all, we are returning to her home, not to a gulag. She faces no persecution whatsoever–she just prefers to live in the US even if it involves breaking the law. In the eyes of the media, Mexico is a wonderful country. Why wouldn’t she want to live there rather than big, bad America? As I say, it will be interesting.
Not just the politicos but business too. We are now receiving at home retail flyers with spanish as the primary, or larger print language. 10 years ago it used to be english only , then spanish began appearing in small print, then in equally sized print, now larger print.
Business in are bending over backwards to accomodate latinos and indoctrinating non-spanish speaking residents to spanish language.

Regarding Geraldo, our new intrepid MS-13 whistleblower update Michelle, I forgot that he also mentioned he’s writing a book on MS-13…
This is going to become a big problem. Right now the language of business, science and technology around the world is English. I remember reading several years back that there were about 300 million Chinese learning English.
Why? They realize that to compete internationally they better know English. Those from India are learning the same lesson. The United States, Japan, China, India, and South Korea are going to be the big players in science and technology in this century.
So where am I going with this?
A) The rest of the world is lining up to learn English so they can compete in the international arena and yet we are not enforcing English here in the U.S. I think it was in “The World is Flat” where the author talks about a Korean businessman and a French businessman meeting, neither spoke the others language, but guess what, they both spoke English.
B) It would be better for a young person right now to learn, as a second language, one of the languages spoken in the above named counties. Unfortunately because of this influx of illegal immigration and our government and some businesses catering to them young people are being told that Spanish is the language they need to learn.
This is going to hurt us in the future. This is going to sound harsh but how many Spanish speaking countries really are working on cutting edge technology? Spanish is not going to be a dominant language in the international arena of science and technology. An arena that the U.S. currently leads in and must stay competitive in.
English has become the de facto world language, or as I say it, English has become the world’s second language and yet we debase it here in the U.S.
When they do go to college, they don’t study science and engineering. They study sociology, political science, or chicano studies. It’s all Caucasians and Asians in the scientific majors. I’ll go ahead and be harsh: they can’t compete academically. They’ll also just continue to blame whites and demand affirmative action as long as they’re here.
The Border Patrol used to pick up illegals working the fields in Calif. and deport them via buses. By noon the next day they’d be back on the job. I’m betting Elvira is already back.
Speaking of identity theft, there is an e-mail floating around that innocently asks you to fill in the blanks with your full name, where you were born, where you live now, what’s your favorite movie/food, etc.. Sounds fun, a way to know your friends better? When I didn’t send it back to the sender, she sent another one. The idiot doesn’t realize that with that information, $30 for a SSN trace, you could lose everything. Once an e-mail leaves your hands it’s around the world before dark. Not everyone deletes the previous sender and simply forwards on to everyone in their address book.
I just listened to Laura and Geraldo and I can not believe how he will not answer any hard questions on this. I hope if you and him debate again you do not let him go off on tangents left and right like he always seems to do. I applaud Laura for calling him on doing this time and again and playing the poor victim card.
“Tell Me Why They Had To Die?” Because this is one political area where the globaloney of the globalizers and the anti-American smut of the loony left overlap and where the greedy business base of the Republicans and the equally greedy social services base of the Democrats have a common interest in ganging up on us law-abiding Americans. As for our two parties, the base comes first and the people last.

Here in my corner of the world, there’s a case of a Police shooting that occurred several months ago. It happened during a traffic stop, and the driver exited the vehicle and made motions as if he had a weapon. He was shot and killed.
Also injured in the shooting was an innocent bystander. This bystander has now made his intentions known that he may sue the police department & city for this action, citing negligence by the police.
The story has been in and out of the news headlines…last week the notices of intent were filed, so it came up again. The TV news story I saw showed this bystander in his apartment home with his family, and spoke of how he hasn’t been able to work since the injury, and he worries about how he’ll support his family, etc….
Now, as you’ve probably guessed by the placement of my story, the bystander is, in fact, an illegal immigrant.
While I can see a purpose for filing claim against an accidental injury due to the actions of the police, regardless of his immigration status, the stories generated by this circumstance focus on his ‘inability to work’ and similar matters.
In fact, the reality that he is an illegal immigrant were totally absent from the reporting until just recently.
What part of ‘they’re not supposed to be here’ don’t people understand? He has no right to work here – he has no right to live here – he has no right to be here! And – if I can be so callous – if he wasn’t here, he wouldn’t have been caught up in all this.
I’ve yet to see anyone looking into who hired him before – who rents to him – and what’s going to happen to him after all this is settled.
How about those citizens terroized by illegals murdering, raping, etc. Since you have no way of telling which illegal is a violent criminal, here is a thought, turn them ALL back and round up the rest in this country!
Know what, I don’t give a flying fig about what Mexico thinks, it is apparent they don’t care about relations with us or they would stop this. Good fences make good neighbors.

The solution has been proven simple by this example as quoted in the report:

We shouldn’t let alot of noise distract us and make the process unnecessarily complicated. Do the same thing thousands of times over, expanding the procedure to include picking up alien lawbreakers (my new term for them) marching at rallys, showing up for jobs that Americans would love to do and the rest of the list that any common-sense individual can compile for themselves.
Ignore Geraldo and the rest. Ignore them. And get on with the business of making this a civilized, common-sense society held firm and productive by the sensitive yet not unduly over-emotional application of the rule of law.
On a lighter note, as suggested in another post, LA once had a very different famous Elvira – the television horror movie hostess. In that context I think of the newer Elvira surrounded by the gargoyles of Notre Dame and I find that funny, somehow.
Perhaps we can do an exchange.

But, I love Texas so the alternative location for a refugee camp is Kennebunkport. Mums & Dads could baby sit the little ones and once retired as First Lady, Laura could help with a library. Here is a question for ya….. If churches can get away with giving sanctuary to illegals, then what will a mosque be able to get away with when it comes to harboring terrorists? Its a very dangerous precedent here.
Raging R – I doubt you will ever see police raid a mosque for the same reason you didn’t see them raid the Catholic church in Chicago. Any religion that condones this behavior should be investigated under the RICO act. In lieu of that, tax exempt status should be reviewed. It was my understanding it has never been legal in the U.S. to give sanctuary to criminals. Was I wrong!

Yea, Walter Coleman (aka: Slim Coleman if the stories are true) has quite the past and should be arrested IMHO. But, they won’t.

Did anyone else catch the false statement by the CBS Update quoted by Michelle:
“They support the 32-year-old woman who admittedly re-entered the country illegally to be with her son. Eight-year-old Saul Arellano is a U.S. citizen.”
She did not re-enter the country to be with her son.
She re-entered the country in 1997 within days of her deportation. Her son was born in 1999.
Is this wording a ploy to tug at the heartstrings?

The United Methodist Church is very outspoken that all illegals should be given amnesty no questions asked. Go to their website and read some of their doctrines. It will make you sick to see their stances on illegals, universal health care, abortion, gays, etc.
And oh by the way…… Hillary Clinton is a United Methodist….. once you read some of their doctrines, you will realize where she gets some of her wacked out world views (Straight from her “Religious” principles). Makes we wonder who she is “praying to”!

At the risk of sounding totally unfeeling……I agree that the mother and son should remain together , in Mexico. As far as I’m concerned , he is the son of an illegal which should make him illegal also. Not his fault but that’s not the point. Our mill towns here in the south are over run with illegals and it must stop. May God take care and watch over them, in their own country.
