Rove’s gift basket for the Seattle Times

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 20, 2007 02:09 PM

Remember the fair, objective journalists at the Seattle Times who cheered Karl Rove’s resignation? Via the Media Blog and HA Headlines, here’s news in Howard Kurtz’s WaPo column of Rove’s farewell gift:

In an embarrassment to the industry, some staffers at a Seattle Times news meeting cheered when Rove’s resignation was announced. To his credit, Editor David Boardman made the incident public and warned that staff meetings should not “evolve into a liberal latte klatch.” Rove responded by sending a basket of cookies to the newsroom, with a note saying “my wife shares in your enthusiasm.”

I think a basket of pacifiers would have been more appropriate. How about you?

I wouldn’t change a thing. A back-handed “you think you’re sooooo cute” jab should never be overt.

The cookies and note deminish the reporters sufficiently.

    Classy Rove.

Bet they don’t eat a single one out of fear of poison. Even better. Baseless fear is amusing fear!

I thought Rove killed on Meet the Press. They showed a clip of him on the Nixon campaign staff as a twenty something…he was stylin, let me tell you. Dude was fly. Big ol flop bangs and some sweet specs.

I caught a bit of Rove with David Gregory yesterday on Meet the Press. It was funny to see Rove calmly and convincingly answer Gregory’s questions, which seemed to follow the Chris Matthews’ “are you still beating your wife” format.

As I’ve seen more of Rove on the news-talk shows lately, I come away each time more and more impressed with the political and historical mind this man has.

He’s been made out to be such a ‘boogeyman’ by the left that until one sees him in these discussions, it’s impossible to know what a clear grasp he has on politics and American political history.

Add that to his obvious ease and manner, it’s easy to see how he achieved the level of success and influence he has.

It’s also easy to understand why the left villifies him as they do - it’s a matter of fear….

It’s also very easy to armchair quarterback Karl Rove. I think many of us forget what an unholy meat grinder the beltway can be. The constant pressure and forces that pull and tug you…I wonder if I could have lasted two weeks in his shoes. Doubt it.

My late father had a very simple philosophy of life … which he truly lived by …

“There are 2 ways to tell someone to go to Hell … one way all you will do is make them mad … the other way they will look forward to the trip … so spend your life making them look forward to the trip … ”

Rove’s classy response here reminded me of that.

I disagree - anyone who is honest can see the difference between the serious men and women of the conservative pursuasion working in the US and abroad who correctly understand the momentous challenge facing civilization, and the posturing hypocrites that are mis-labelled “liberals” who are mainly worrying about the next election, and everything else be damned.
