The ghost of Kitty Genovese in St. Paul…and breaking the silence in Afghanistan
You remember Kitty Genovese. She was the young woman stabbed to death in Queens in the 1960s as 38 bystanders witnessed the attack but did nothing to help. Kitty Genovese Syndrome entered the national lexicon. The papers quoted one cowardly witness who explained the unwillingness to even pick up the phone to call the police: “I didn’t want to get involved.” For every Good Samaritan willing to intervene, there’s an ostrich who sticks his head in the hand while a victim cries out for help. In St. Paul, citizens and law enforcement officials are horrified by another example of Kitty Genovese Syndrome…this one caught on videotape:
As many as 10 people witnessed a man raping and beating a woman early Tuesday in the hallway of a St. Paul apartment building, police said Wednesday. No one stopped it. At one point, the 26-year-old victim knocked on a door, yelling for the occupants to call police. A man inside told police he didn’t open the door or look out, though he said he called police. Police found no record of the call, according to an affidavit for a search warrant filed in Ramsey County District Court. St. Paul police arrested Rage Ibrahim, 25, on suspicion of criminal sexual conduct Tuesday. He hasn’t been charged.
Yes, his name is “Rage.”
“It was horrifying. I can’t describe how it sent chills up my back, watching this woman getting assaulted and people turning their backs and doing nothing,” said St. Paul police Cmdr. Shari Gray, who oversees the department’s sex crimes unit. She saw surveillance video that recorded the attack in the Highwood neighborhood. As the woman screamed, five to 10 people - men and women - peeked out their apartment doors to see what was happening or started walking down the hallway and retreated after witnessing the assault, Gray said.
They did nothing.
When police arrived, they found Ibrahim and a woman on the floor in a hallway, both naked from the waist down. The woman appeared to have blood on her legs and injuries to her face. Ibrahim told the officers they were just drunk, but the crying woman told them Ibrahim had drugged and raped her. Paramedics took the woman to Regions Hospital in St. Paul for a sexual assault examination and to be treated for her injuries. The surveillance video shows Ibrahim and the woman leaving an apartment, and Ibrahim standing over the woman and removing his pants. A man approached Ibrahim and the woman at one point, the video shows. Ibrahim got up, confronted the man and, with no pants on, chased him down the hallway. Ibrahim then returned to the woman. The video also shows Ibrahim striking the woman five times.
An activist from something called the “Somali Justice Advocacy Center” is speaking out. No, not on behalf of the female victim. He’s defending the male assailant caught on tape assaulting the victim:
Charged with two counts of rape, Rage Ibrahim turned himself in to Ramsey County authorities Thursday afternoon. “Ibrahim is innocent of rape he said,” says Omar Jamal with the Somali Justice Center, speaking on behalf of Ibrahim.
This Omar Jamal character is quite active on the domestic violence scene, playing both sides, and he’s been dubbed the Al Sharpton of the Twin Cities’ Somali community. (Despite being convicted of lying to immigration officials, he has yet to be deported.) Here’s an article from the Star-Tribune from August 17 on domestic violence in the Somali Muslim community and the code of silence that pervades the culture:
The victim wasn’t in the St. Paul courtroom Friday when Afif Abdiaziz Ahmed was sentenced to 17½ years in prison.
Ahmed beat his wife so badly last summer in her St. Paul apartment that she is in a prison of her own: She has permanent brain damage and scars. She will never be able to care for her 17-month-old son because she will never be able to care for herself. Advocates and law enforcement authorities say domestic violence often is a taboo topic in the male-dominated Somali community. Women are strongly discouraged from reporting it, said Omar Jamal of the Somali Justice Advocacy Center. There is a “deep mistrust in the system,” he said. “This case created bad disagreement in the community. Most of the men didn’t like that the women [took the case] this far.”
Liberal naivete and cluelessness rule:
No one appeared in the courtroom gallery on behalf of the victim or the defendant. Jamal said that he’d encouraged the victim’s relatives to come to court but that they fear a backlash from the community. “If we talk about it, maybe there’s hope,” he said. “But nobody even wants to talk about it.” Elders try to discourage women from reporting domestic violence and pressure them to drop cases or not show up in court, he said.
Lucky Farah, a legal advocate with the Domestic Abuse Project in Minneapolis, painted a less grim picture. If a woman is being abused, the elders and family members “stick together to try to solve the problem,” she said. “That’s how it’s always been in Somalia. “They don’t have bad intentions,” she said, but they need more education on the dynamics of domestic violence. Too often, the community thinks of domestic violence “as a normal marriage issue,” she said. “If they were more educated to think of it as a problem, then the whole thing might be different.”

Tell that to the 7-year-old Afghan girl raped by two men in Kabul, Afghanistan whose case is spotlighted here. These monstrous attacks are tolerated daily, justified daily, and covered up daily by see-no-evil, hear-no-evil conspirators under sharia law:
Two brothers — identified only as 18-year-old Ismat and 24-year-old Mohammad — allegedly asked their teenage sister to lure the girl to their home in the Jaghuri district of Ghazni province and raped her until she lost consciousness, according to human rights officials and advocates handling the case. The suspects were briefly held by police and then freed. Rights officials suspect they used personal contacts or bribes to secure their release. The girl’s family fled north to the capital, leaving home under cover of darkness. “The district chief went to the uncle and said if they complain any further or go to Kabul, he’s going to personally come and kill them,” said Manizha Naderi, director of the advocacy organization Women for Afghan Women, which is helping the girl’s family. Jaghuri district chief Khada Dad Erfani denied any threat, and claimed tribal elders and relatives of the girl and the brothers intervened, preferring to handle the case through tribal law instead of potentially embarrassing legal proceedings.
…The two suspects’ 15-year-old sister knew the 7-year-old because they grazed sheep together. The sister invited the girl to eat cheese and then left her with Ismat and Mohammad, said Jamila Zafar, a social worker who is counseling the girl and her family. After attacking the child, the brothers left her unconscious near the family home. When she came to, she went home and complained of stomach pains for a few days, Zafar said. The family then took her to the hospital, where doctors examined the girl and determined she had been raped.
The attackers and their apologists don’t need “education.” They need to be damned to hell. This is the little girl rendered mute and still suffering pain from the vicious attack that bystanders wanted to whitewash:

How can you watch something like that and not respond? All it would take is two people to subdue one pantsless guy. How hard could it have been?
How can you look yourself in the mirror or even live with yourself if you didn’t do anything to help? These people are disgusting.
This is another reason why we must win the War on Terror. This is a struggle of civilization vs Barbarism. Barbarism must lose, and civilization must win.

We may not be able to “educate” these people about domestic violence on their native turf, but they need to understand that this type of behavior is unacceptable on American soil.
I’m not surprised at the response, I saw some pretty sickening behavior that was excused as “normal” in Afghanistan, but we need to put a stop to this when it happens over here. We also need to put a stop to the liberal acceptance of things like honor killings and female genital mutilation as “cultural and religious norms” when they are imported into Western civilization.
Would it be terribly racist of me to wonder it the neighbors who couldn’t be bothered to help were Somali immigrants just behaving the way they would have in the old country?
I always thought all it took was for someone to make the initiative. If someone had just come to help, perhaps others would step in too. I’d like to think that most people who witnessed such a situation would be considering about jumping in and helping out but remain uncertain since they could get themselves hurt. But when they see someone else making the first move, they’d join in and help too.
Then again, what the hell do I know?
No way, I would have let that attack continue. Sorry, I’m that type of person. I would have grabbed something, told my wife to call 911 and charged out. Oh, well, these days I guess, in some communities, they don’t want to be disturbed with their tv. Too bad, they all can’t be charged as accomplices. People complain about all the crime in their neighborhoods, but few want to do anything about it. I once witnessed a guy hit an old lady and grab her purse. He didn’t get far before I and another guy pinned him down. Seems he had a long rap sheet. Don’t mess with an enraged Scotsman. Without community involvement, there will always be happy criminals.
The Twin Cities are “sanctuary cities.” And given their voting patterns, liberal Democrat (or Democrat Farm Labor).
What else would you expect? This is how liberals generally behave. We see it every day when they refuse to stand up for America. As for this Jamal character, why is he still in the country? Why hasn’t he been frogmarched in chains to a military jet and flown back to Africa? He and the rest of the Twin City Jihadists are working hard to turn Mn/StP into the FIRST American under Sharia law.

This crime, and similar crimes/murders as in Newark, NJ are the result of the open borders multiculturalism. How our country has been enhanced by this! Thanks, Geraldo and others who support open borders and such diversity of our culture and the attack on Western civilization.

I have almost lost all faith in the human race. Perhaps someone would have done something years ago, but today men have been “de-masculinized” and even “feminized” by our culture. I was first introduced to the Kitty Genovese situation at the University of South Carolina in a Social-Psychology class. What you reported was correct. Thirty-some years later, part of the mystery was revealed. She and those in that neighborhood all knew that the mafia had “authorized” the attack. They kept their mouths shut for fear of reprisals. Sound familiar? Listen to some of the “hip-hop” lyrics about “ratting.” What happened to the supervisor who broke up a rape with a gun in his hand? — He was fired!
Coming to a neighborhood near you,then the entire city, then state etc. etc.etc. To quote Barney Fife,”We need to nip it in the bud..nip-it, nip-it, nip-it!!!” Now!
I remember once when I was living in an apartment complex hearing a commotion outside one night. Looking out the window, I saw a couple, they both looked like they’d had too much to drink; the man doing the “caveman carry” of the woman, with her half draped over his shoulder, trying at the same time to get inside an apartment.
Given the way she was screaming, it was clear that the woman wasn’t voluntarily going along with this arrangement. My roommate and I looked at each other, and it took a second before we were both headed out the door. We weren’t alone. About half a dozen other residents were coming outside at the same time. The guy dropped the woman and ran as the doors were opening; he had enough of a head start that he was able to get away in the darkness.
Turns out it was the woman’s apartment he was trying to get into. A “met-at-a-bar” scenario that had gone very wrong.
Bottom line was, the neighbors acted and a rape was prevented.
So I asked myself, as I began reading the story above: “How could such a thing happen?”
And then I started seeing the details: Words like “Rage Ibrahim,” “Somali Justice Advocacy Center” and “Omar Jamal” and the realization hit me:
“Oh, that’s how it could happen.”
The unassimilated barbarians among us, “Celebrating their diversity.” Multiculturalism taken to its logical conclusion.
Welcome to the zoo, American citizens. Now, back in your cages.
And remember how Cameron Diaz got on Oprah and breathlessly claimed rape would be legalized if people didn’t vote (and one can safely assume she meant for John Kerry) in 2004?
Apparently, it’s okay if it’s done by a person considered “diverse” or “multicultural.”
Hell, the silence of the left, or their outright advocacy and defense of such rapists, pratically makes rape legal, anyway.

Given the growing violent crime and disasterous political situations in major US cities like St. Paul, New Orleans, Newark, Los Angeles and others, I would expect the Democrat Party to call for immediate withdraw from these areas. Why should the US be involved in a civil war in American cities?
I wonder how many of the “witnesses” were Somali, given many Muslim (Oops, I meant ‘Somali’!) immigrants tend to live in the same communities.

I’m a whopping 5’ 5” Tasmanian devil and still would have jumped in a second in a case like this. Of course I carry a Glock 19 when out of the house and with the current rules of engagement under the laws of the state of Idaho and the 9th Circus Court I would have had no problem defending this woman with deadly force. Assault on women is one of my hot button issues along with illegal invasion of my country. I have no patience for either. Once again we see the contributions of the Muslim community to the US.
Immigrants with a primary language other than english tend to group together, if only because the corner store in that area will more likely understand them (China town, Little Korea, etc etc)

And now our governor - aside from supporting a 15 BILLION dollar tax increase (including a crap-tacular socialized medicine plan that would make Wisconsin a magnet for the unemployed…because you don’t have to work to be covered), which is the LARGEST tax increase in the history of the United States - he wants TOUGHER gun laws to make it harder for innocent citizens to defend themselves.
CCW for responsible law abiding adults is one of the advantages of living in most Western states, provided you don’t step in any on the left coast. The wife and I both received ours this summer and are prepared to be sheepdogs (both of us are veterans) and not sheep.

DOn’t drive through Illinois either. They have some REALLY messed up regulations regarding CCW’s from other states.
Hell, in Wyoming you don’t have to have a FIOD card or register the weapon. Just be able to pass the background check, and be able to show that it was legally purchased if ever asked, and it’s a home defense weapon… I think a CCW requires registering the gun, but I dunno…
Couple of years ago I walked into a Wal-Mart is Casper with a knife on my belt, and 20 steps in remembered the knfe was there. I freaked out a little since I’ve lived most of my life in Illinois, until I saw 3 people with HUGE freaking hunting knives on their belts. totally different culture, and I felt 100% safe there.

Given the fact that my husband’s injuries are from his time in the Mog. I’m not exactly thrilled with the Somoli neighborhood about 20 miles from here. They also make no effort to be ‘american’… well… except for their reliance on Welfare.
And some of you should love this one. We were at a friends annual BBQ last month. And his softball team was there. One of the guys on his team was someone I used to work with. I asked what he was doing now and he told me he worked processing claims for SSI.
The Somoli Immigrants, while admittedly being legal ones, file for AND RECIEVE, SSI for depression. Even though they have never worked a day in the country. And they are depressed because they are here in America where everything is strange instead of being at ‘home’.

Better suggestion for the ladies than aiming for the “jewels”, aim for the side of the knee. Truth is most predators are expecting the jewel shot since they know most ladies have been conditioned to aim for that part of the body.
However, the side of the knee-take out the ACL (anterior cruciate ligaiment) and the wolf goes down faster than a sack of Idaho potatoes!
Of course some of the better solutions have been mentioned-CCW for starters. Of course another solution is become more tactically aware of your surroundings, and refuse to be a victim of a violent crime. The one thing I learned in over 20 years of military service, 10 years of TKD, and completion of the ASF course is this:
Being safe is a lifestyle choice. From the moment you get up, leave for work or school, and return home a person must always be on the lookout for potential trouble. Don’t give the predator a chance, and IF they try something-make them regret that they have commited their third mistake of the day-ie waking up, choosing the wrong victim and finally knowing that they got the assets handed to them on a platter compliments of the “gold standard” of asset kicking.
Multi-culturism is NOT a good thing.

Instead of wondering if we’re racists for noting the ethnicity of the assailant and witnesses (I pegged it as soon as I saw “St. Paul”), we should be noting the racism of the media that over-reports missing white girls and refuses to report on the violence to women inherent in Somali and other Muslim immigrant culture.
So sad…praying for that little girl.
We have our own surge going in the U.S. with increased crime, taxes, welfare benefits, loss of basic human rights, and absolutely no say in who is allowed to immigrate. In 40 years we have allowed this country to sink to the level of any 3rd world cesspool. No-go zones and cities with abject poverty.
Allowing groups to immigrate here, with no thought to assimilation is doing nothing to further the immigrants as a people. We do not require them to integrate, nor contribute anything to this country. Their presense makes church groups and open border’s supporters feel good, period. Unfortunately, our children will share in the destruction of this nation. Abhorant behavior already seems to be normal.
Wyoming is a wonderful place to live alright. Since my kids are all grown, I’m not sure, but I suspect if a kid around here were to bring a gun to school it would mean he was going to do a little hunting on his way home. Well except in the “Big Cities” like Casper and Cheyenne.
Since these “neighbors” failed to help this woman, I would think they would be accessories to the crime. A clear violation of the immigration laws, deport them now.

I have heard of this referred to by an outspoken Iranian Critic as “Gender Apartheid” This is a break down of civilized behavior. In the old days they had a name for it “Going Bush” reverting to the lowest common denominator of human behavior. If you can call this human behavior. It looks like, given the Somalian example, we are importing these folks. There used to be a standard we kept, for Immigrants, criteria they had to meet to enter our country.

Your Social-Psychology teacher was re-writing history. If you do any thorough research you will find this isn’t at all true.
If you do not assimilate then you must be sent back to your country and I don’t give a crap which country or what color you are. You are either an American or you are not welcome, enough is enough. Kitty Genovese is about as much a case of bystanders not wanting to get involved as Love Canal was about evil corporations, in other words not at all unless you believe the media hysteria.
I’ll step forward and admit I wouldn’t have gone outside my apartment to help the woman. I know I can’t hold my own in any kind of physical confrontation, so I would be helping no one.
However, you’d better believe I would have called the police the instant I realized what was going on.

I note that Kitty Genovese was raped and beaten to death in New York. This woman was raped in St. Paul, Minnesota. Both are hard core liberal bluest of blue regions where the people believe the government should do everything. This is what comes of giving responsibility for everything to the government.
I will note in passing that you never hear these stories coming from Texas.
