Counter-protesting the surrender crowd

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 26, 2007 12:25 PM

Two weeks ago, I called your attention to several major pro-troops, anti-surrender campaigns that will converge this September in Washington DC. The ANSWER crowd must be answered. If you can’t be there in person, please make sure to check out all the links and support the organizations I’ve linked to any other way you can. See also: The Victory Caucus website.

Here is some inspiration to get you moving (click for full-size):

Instead of watching another moonbat parade march unopposed through their town, the counter-protesters pictured in the photo above in Kennebunkport, Maine, turned out to express their dissent (because, as we all, “dissent is patriotic”).

More from my friends at FR, where one commenter summed up the counter-protest nicely:

“It ain’t the sixties anymore.”

Reader Beverly P., who I met at CPAC earlier this year, e-mails about her new organization:

Hi Michelle,

I met you at the CPAC. I’m the mom whose son is on his 4th depolyment, currently serving in Afghanistan. He is 24 years old, recipient of the Bronze Star, Combat Action Badge and many other medals. He is very brave and he believes in his mission. So does his mother!

I am very happy to tell you that I am up to Volume 10 of Postcards For Soldiers! The CPAC was Volume 1! I have been back to DC twice since the CPAC, attending the Gathering of Eagles Rallies, sticking up for my Son and all our Soldiers. They are an awesome group of veterans who are showing up everwhere Cindy shows up and sometimes she doesn’t even get out of her car anymore! How about that for Mission Accomplished!

I finally acted on my idea The Band of Mothers (to watch over The Band of Brothers). The website address is www.thebandofmothers.com. Please visit it and buy a Band of Mothers T-shirt. ALL proceeds after cost go to the Wounded Warriors and the Gathering of Eagles. I am coming back to DC on Sept 10th and 11th to lobby Congress and the Senate to support our Soldiers and their mission. I will also be there with many folks from the Gathering of Eagles (veterans and parents of our Soldiers). We have decided that we can no longer let Cindy’s voice be the only voice heard.

Yesterday, I was driving in DC. When I reached the mall I took my usual route and ran straight into the police escort for a marching protest group. My first thought, what is it this time?

To my surprise, it was Iraqi-Americans protesting for support of Iraq. My first thought, ‘its about damn time’. My second thought, ‘go, go, go :-)

All my relatives, on both sides, are from Maine. Is it any wonder I live in Florida. Florida is not perfect (hanging chad) but I would just go out of my mind in a New England state.

    Bless these counter-protesters!

An anti-surrender campaign implies that there is a pro-surrender movement in the country. I know of many groups pushing for withdrawal, and some are recommending that we do so too quickly, but I haven’t spoken with anyone who is advocating that the U.S. surrender by laying down our arms or signing an armistice with Al-Queda.

Some on the left might be described as pro-failure, but “pro-surrender” would seem to require a real contortion of the words’ military history.

you are pro-surrender when you choose failure to complete the task of winning. To leave Iraq to AQ is to surrender to them…..surrender: to relinquish possession or control of to another because of demand or compulsion.

The Defeatocrats are demanding we relinquish control of country to AQ a country that we are killing them enmasse in because their compulsion is defeatism…….

    Hi Jaded,
You seem to be using the term surrender in a broader sense than that of military history. Is there a historical event that has been termed “surrender” that would be analogous to what the Democrats are proposing?

I am in favor of staying now, and for a decade or more if needed, in order to see Iraq not become a failed state.

If we did leave, though, we wouldn’t leave the country to AQ. In the ensuing civil war AQ would be facing intense hostility from Shiite, Kurd and even Sunni Iraqis.

Third point. I’m not sure the president ever made a case that we wanted to maintain “control” over Iraq. We succeeded in regime change and held democratic elections in an attempt to hand “control” over to the Iraqis. Unfortunately, the elected officials in Iraq are weak. Perhaps, having a later-day MacArthur in Iraq would have been a better way to go.

If we leave Iraq without a stable, self-reliant Iraqi government, we create a failed state, much like pre-9/11 Afghanistan, in which terrorist groups would be able to use as a base of operations.

Also, “corporate” AQ has said themselves that Iraq is the central front in their war against us. The Dems might not view immediate/near-term “withdrawal” as “surrender”, but AQ sure would. We can never forgot: the enemy gets a vote, too…

A slight correction, MissLadybug, “Bush”, not “we” create a failed state. If you believe that Bush and we are synonymous, think about the amnesty Bush wanted to shove down our throats. Think about the innocent Americans being slaughtered right here in America, by criminals from Bush’s dear Mexico. Think about the additional stident’s visas Bush has approved for Saudi students. Finally, think about the America that Bush has schemed to destroy thru NAU, ever since he took office. Invasion into Iraq had nothing to do with American security or with the meaningless, self-defeating “war on terror”. If was always about punishing Saddam for planning execution of daddy Bush. Rest is all window-dressing, which was so transparent and shallow, that even that did not go well. Now, even after thousands of Amerian troops sacrificed in Iraq, America is no better than before the “liberation”. In a sane world, Bush would be impeached, investigated and prosecuted. But coming back to the point, it was Bush’s idea to invade Iraq. Here is some more about Bush’s presidency: http://www.vdare.com/guzzardi/070824_vfl.htm
Bush and Bush alone, is responsible, whatever the outcome. Not “we”… if you see the difference. And as a disclaimer, am not a democrat.

Is there anyone (ahem, besides the troll, that is) out there that knows of a similar group here in WA state? I am assuming there will be plenty of protesters from our good socialist friends in Freemont, et al, at the Republican fundraiser in Bellvue tomorrow. POTUS is on the confirmed guest list.

In this instance, “we” is the United States of America. Congress, elected by the American people, authorized the use of military force in an effort to get Saddam to comply with more than a dozen UN resolutions he was in violation of, as well as to stop his funding of terrorist organizations and to stop him from passing WMD technologies (which have been found in small numbers in Iraq; I believe the majority of them were shipped off to Syria and beyond prior to the actual invasion on March 20, 2003 - it’s not like he didn’t have the time…). As a nation, we decided it was in our best interests to invade Iraq. We, as a nation, “broke it” when we deposed Saddam. We “bought it”, in essence, so we have to “fix it” before we leave them on their own.

Immigration “reform” is not a good analogy. I do not agree with Bush’s position on illegal immigration. Neither to most Americans. Those Americans refused to remain silent when Congress tried to shove “comprehensive immigration reform” down our throats. Enough of our duly elected Congressional representatives listened to the American people, and that “shamnesty” was prevented, although those of us against illegal alien amnesty cannot rest on our laurels.

Bush sold lies that “we” bought. Do you still want to stand by the lies that you bought? If you want to, feel free, but I don’t. Not only do I reject the lies, but also the liar. Hence, although “we” bought his lies, “we” should now move away from the lies and the liar, who alone should be held respolsibile for consequesnce of his lies.

And that is the point. How can you stand behind a liar who conned you into believeing the lies about WMDs and Terror cells (we now know there were none of that), when the same sellout, corrupt, liar tried to legitimize foreign criminals? Does this not tell you about the ?

If “we” abandon Iraq, thousands of innocent Iraqis will pay the price for our indifference. You think the Killing Fields of SE Asia were bad? If The United States of America (not the President, not Congress, but the US of A) walks away from Iraq before they can protect themselves, I’m afraid the Killing Fields will be mild in comparison to the carnage we will see.

And, I don’t think Bush lied about the intelligence. Congress saw the same intelligence he did. At the time of the invasion every intelligence agency from pretty much any country you could name believed Saddam had WMD. The “Bush lied” crowd (of whatever stripe - I know they aren’t all Dems) seems to forget that part…

I was able to make it to the Charlotte rally of the last Move America Forward caravan. I can’t make the one coming up in September. I really wish I could. It’s amazing to me that mothers who support the mission that their sons’ are fighting for are usually totally overlooked by the mainstream media. I realize that the supportive moms are a dime a dozen — there are a lot of us — and the crazy, dictator hugging whack-a-doos are rare. Still, I think our voices need to be heard. :p
