Behold the forbidden blasphemous balls!
File this under “No good deed goes unpunished” by the Religion of Perpetual Outrage:
A demonstration has been held in south- east Afghanistan accusing US troops of insulting Islam after they distributed footballs bearing the name of Allah.
The balls showed the Saudi Arabian flag which features the Koranic declaration of faith.
The US military said the idea had been to give something for Afghan children to enjoy and they did not realise it would cause offence.
The footballs were dropped from a helicopter in Khost province.
Some displayed flags from countries all over the world, including Saudi Arabia, which features the shahada, one of the five pillars of Islam - the declaration of faith.
The words, which include the name of Allah, are revered, and Muslims are very sensitive about where and how they can be used.
As we’ve learned from Rushdie Rage, MoCartoon Rage, Burger King Ice Cream Cone Rage, Koran Flushing Rage, Valentine’s Day Rage, Veil Rage, Pope Rage, Fallaci Rage, Miss World Pageant Rage, and Rushdie Knighthood Rage, they’re pretty damned “sensitive” (read: ready to riot) about everything.
For crying out loud:
Mullahs in Afghanistan criticised the US forces for their insensitivity, and around 100 people held a demonstration in Khost.
Afghan MP Mirwais Yasini said: “To have a verse of the Koran on something you kick with your foot would be an insult in any Muslim country around the world.”
A spokeswoman for the US forces in Afghanistan said they made “significant efforts to work with local leaders, mullahs and elders to respect their culture” and distributing the footballs was an effort to give a gift the Afghan children would enjoy.
Instead of taking Allah’s name off its flag, Saudi Arabia is whining about football manufacturers putting the flag on its balls. But do you have any doubt in your minds that those manufacturers would be damned by the Islamophobe card-playing rabble-rousers if they purposely left the Allah-bearing flag off its balls?
Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
Military officials, who did nothing wrong, can’t apologize fast enough:
Sgt. Dean Welch, a spokesman for the U.S.-led coalition, said Friday’s “distribution of soccer balls was done in the spirit of goodwill, something that we hoped would bring Afghan children some enjoyment.”
“We regret any disturbance that was caused in this case,” he said. “If we hurt one person, that is one too many.”
Ridiculous groveling. Robert Spencer predicted the predictable about these blasphemous balls back in May 2006. LGF weighs in on the Dreaded Balls of Blasphemy.
Perhaps we should put this Arabic script on the next supply of soccer balls:

More muslim crybaby BS.
“What are you rebelling against?”
“Whattdu ya got?”
Where is the peaceful religion? The one I hear everyone talking about on tv, where is that Islam being practiced?
sorry Laree, but its only practiced on tv shows
Can the Islamists get any more idiotic?Every day I think “this has to be as bad as it can get”,and every day they prove me wrong. This is ridiculous.
On the other hand, what’s wrong with giving them plain black and white balls?Of course they would be offended by that too,I suppose.
sorry but we’ve fulfilled our PC and sensitivity committments already. More than likely these protesters are taliban sympathizers and should be simply ignored. If not, then Afghanis, revel in your new found freedom to protest peacefully, if you are capable.
hmmmphf, probably the same mullahs who were consulted about their appropriateness and distribution in the first place. Where are these said mullahs, local leaders and tribal elders now that their decisions are being questioned about the balls distribution. Stand up and prove your worth or sit down and shut the hell up. They should be held accountable for any offended sensibilities more than U.S. forces should. Go protest against them you twits!
Keith “I also get low ratings in bed” Olbermann gave one of the “Worst Person in the World” title to the US Military over this…
Oh the things I could say.
But I won’t.
Ball der dash! It’s ok to saw off a human head with the guy’s hands tied behind his back shouting allah akbar but don’t dare kick a soccer ball with a verse from the koran on it. Did we hear from these people about lack of sensitivity when the head were being cut off, women being shot in the back of the head in a public stadium, throat slitting, etc.? Perhaps this is precisely what Christ meant when He said they swallow camels but strain at gnats.
#8 almeehan: BINGO!
I was thinking much the same thing: here are people who think nothing of blowing up and shooting their fellow Mohammedans, getting upset over a soccer ball. It’d be Monty Pythonesque if it weren’t so pathetic and disgusting.
I am really sick and tired of Arabs being angry. Saying Arabs in the Middle East are angry is like saying water is wet. It is like saying Gangsta Rapper Ol’ Dirty B@stard (rest his ol’ dirty soul) beat his girlfriend. It is what mathematical logicians a “given.”
I am more offended by beheadings, and personally think we should have soccer balls with Armageddonijad on them, or better yet, Danish cartoons. I would buy one.

Can anyone believe that Bush has reduced our military to a bunch of apologizing stooges too scared to fight and unable to even practice their own religion? Bush should be impeached.
It’s like dealing with cavemen/spoiled children.
(With all due appologies to Fred & Barney)
Why does everything seem to be so holy to them except for human life?
No. Further, I can’t believe you think our military consists of a bunch of stooges who are unable to practice their own religion and who are too scared to fight.
Lower your dosage.
puhiawa, this is what we get for respecting the ’sitting president’, no matter how timid or corrupt. In our system of govt. the white house is the executive branch, wielding almost unlimited power, at the tax-payer expense. Bush has manipulated himself into the position of most powerful man on earth. His record proves that Bush has no American interest at heart. So the question is, given the power of the sitting president / commander-in-chief, how much damage Bush can do to America. Again his record speaks for himself. From escorting Bin Ladens to safety to prosecuting Border Patrol agents, Bush has worked hard at destroying USA and it’d future, with no signs of stopping or being impeached. So, our only hope is 2008. It should not be hard to see that Tom Tancredo is quite the opposite of Bush. America cannot go wrong with Tom Tancredo: http://www.teamtancredo.com/
From the AP article I saw on FoxNews.com (before seeing this one here):
How come no one in the market in Kabul is protesting?
A side note: Afghans aren’t Arab. Once you get to Iran, the people are not ethnic Arabs anymore (for the most part). Iranians are by and large ethnic Persians. I’m not sure of the majority ethnicity in Afghanistan, but I know they aren’t Arab…
I think we’re looking at this all wrong. All we have to do is write the name of Allah on all of our jetliners, then they can’t be blown up by the jihadis, right?
On a side note, I don’t know what they put in the kool aid at Team Tancredo, but I think they stole the recipe from the Scientologists.
give ‘em footballs made out of pigskin as a token of apology.
Hey, can any of you REALLY blame Muslims for being outraged at everything?
Think about it - terrorists and radicals have said, time and again, their ultimate goal is a global caliphate.
They know that liberals and the p.c. worshipers in this country will trip over themselves to be the first to appease.
So they think if getting outraged and insulted by pretty much everything will help them towards that goal of the caliphate.
And it’s working. Slowly, but surely, liberals and p.c. lovers are caving in to their demands and outlandish, hypocritical, abusive practices.
While I still think they’re angry and dangerous, and while I still have every intention of fighting back, I cannot blame them for being clever enough to use our own liberals’ codes of “tolerance” and “diversity” against us.
Sadly, everything you just said is absolutely true.
They have more respect for a Soccer Ball than they do for Women. Sick.
I’m betting the kids loved them.
Screw soccer. Send ‘em NFL footballs! How you gonna keep ‘em down on the farm after they’ve gotten a grip on the threads of a good ol’ American pigskin…
Oops.
Never mind.
So my Koran toilet paper would probably send them into seizures heh?
I would agree the amount of outrage in general for most things “Islam” is over the top but to deny them their right to insult and to decry them as crybabies is no different than any other religion professing the same when insult, real or otherwise, is heaped upon them. For the US military to do anything in this god forsaken part of the world without serious consultation is ridiculous. Who in the hell is running the US army anyway? An idiot?
Wow - Nike’s with allah “written” on them, Soccer balls with flags that have allah printed on them, cartoons of allah, and God forbid - Korans dropped into toilets… man that’s insulting, sacrilegious and an overall blemish on mankind.
Beheading infidels, Flying planes filled with civilians into buildings filled with civilians, car bombing civilians, stoning women and not eating bacon - now that’s what allah’s talkin’ bout!
Morons.
More important things going on in Afghanistan than this…
Anyone surprised? Let’s see what we have here. The men of this culture are so sexually repressed and insecure in their manhood that they dye their hair and mandatory beards and “stasches” boot black when they turn grey, cover their women from head to toe to keep other men from looking at them, restrict the women from driving, education, free exprssion, talking or walking with men outside the family, leaving home without a male family member in company, etc. etc. etc. They never, and I do mean NEVER, get over anything, hell, they still call Christians “Crusaders” and the rift between the Sunni and Shia is centuries old. These people will never grasp democracy, hell, they can’t even grasp the concept of civility. As long as they follow a idiology (note that I didn’t say religion) that keeps them in the 6th century they will never be more than a group of childish, barbaric, heathens. And no I’m not sorry if that offends anyone.
I say we need to leave the whole region, save for Isreal, and adopt the old cold war policy of mutually assured destruction. Attack us again and we level Mecca and Medina. Sorry if that sounds harsh but I’ve totally lost my sense of humor with these clowns.
They should have plastered the soccer balls with the good ole Stars and Stripes … at least the kids would have known where the soccer balls came from …
Snausage Alert.
I have maybe a different take on this: we have a flag, and some people are of the feeling that any display of the flag of the United States is “patriotic”, and so they make all sorts of things out of flag symbols, right down (pardon the pun) to bikinis.
I disagree, and tradition and military code call for a very limited and reverent use and display of our sacred symbol of freedom.
Nearly the last thing I want to see is some dopey chick with her muffin wrapped up in the stars and stripes, or using it as butt floss.
So, I can somewhat understand the concept, at least, of propriety with national and religious symbols.
Now they complain about the shahada on soccer balls. Next they’ll be coming for my Prophet Mohammed punching bag. When will it stop?
This is not surprising, but it does, yet again, point to how clueless our military leaders can be. Have they not heard of the infamous Burger King ice cream, for instance? To think that no Muslim would have a problem in kicking an Islamic verse around reminds one of Roberto Gonzalez.
As long as this is not a war against Islam, then you have to act accordingly.
I am waiting for the extremist to say non-believers who breath the same air that Allah once did must be elimiated.
Dear Muslims:
Grow. The. Freak. UP!!
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,294832,00.html
Funny the Media is not highlighting this fact more and so much for supporting the local economy.
No wheres my shahada toilet paper…
Has no one notice the CROSS on the ball in the form of the UK flag. It probably also appears in the Swiss flag, and what about the korean yin-yang symbol, isn’t that sacred to the bhuddists or daoists, or someone?
SCREW ‘EM ALL AND THEIR FREAKED OUT RELIGION OF HATE!! Next time, we should bomb the living sh%t out of them… then maybe they’d have something to complain about.
No APOLOGY should have been issued about this. Here we’re doing something nice (and taking it out of my check to pay for it) and these islamic muslim bastards are claiming insult to ALLAH! Well, if Allah is that blasted sensitive, then SCREW HIM TOO!!
Anyone know if a US Flag is on this ball because I don’t see one in the picture there? If so the military should not have passed them out because:
TITLE 4–FLAG AND SEAL, SEAT OF GOVERNMENT, AND THE STATES
CHAPTER 1–THE FLAG
Sec. 8. Respect for flag
DUCK THE MUSLIMS ARE ANGRY AGAIN! LET THE FIRES BEGIN!
There probably is a technical distinction between an actual flag, and objects with flag designs. If you take a flag down from a flagpole, or out of those triangular flagcases and wrap yourself in it, that is a violation of the code, and I would agree that is disrespectful to our nation’s flag. On the other hand, products intended to be used by people that are adorned with a flag design aren’t themselves a flag. So, no violation for wearing a stars&stripes bikini, or swimtrunks.
The need for patriotism in America means that we must have very hot all American babes parading around in stars&stripes bikinis, and tanning in the sun on Old Glory beach towels, to remind us of the greatness of our country. God Bless America!
Be sure not to take any pictures of these guys either because you’ll steal their SOULS!!!1!!!
Those regulations are interesting. It appears people violate the letter of that code all the time, but in a spirit of pride in their country, and what the stars and stripes mean to them. For example, when I’m watching some racing action, whether it be NASCAR, or the LeMans endurance sports car races, there is inevitably a race team that has a stars&stripes paint scheme on the car. Some from other countries do the same with their flags.
In NASCAR, Casey Mears, who drives the #25 National Guard Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports has a blue nose with white stars, red and white stripes down the rest of the car. The sponsor of the race team is the National Guard, so are our own military violating this code by using a flag design to promote themselves on a race track?
In the LeMans sports car series, there are cars from all over the world competing in 12 to 24 hour endurance racing. Porche 911 GTR, Aston Martin DB9R, Ferrari 430 Scuderia, BMW, Mercedes, Lamborghini. In this international environment, I end up rooting for the Corvette C6R with blue nose/ white stars, red and white stripes. Is there something wrong with this American race team showing their national pride, racing America’s sports car against the best in the world? That could be considered an “advertising” function, could it not?
I don’t find anything wrong with that, and I think it’s in the proper respectful and proud spirit. It may be against that regulation, depending on how it’s interpreted. I do think a stinky anarchist hippie who wipes his rear with our flag is a whole different story because the intent is to cause controversy by disrespecting the flag of our country as a political statement. Didn’t the Supreme Court rule that such displays are protected as free speech?
The trouble with such a policy is threefold:
First, leaving the whole region - “taking our [soccer] ball and going home” - would be perceived by our enemies as weakness. Weakness emboldens them. Emboldened enemies aren’t mollified; they become contemptuous, and want to attack us even more.
Second, adopting a bunker mentality by abandoning the whole region save for Israel not only cedes initiative to the enemy, the Israelis wouldn’t see it as doing them any favor, either. It’d make them even more of a magnet for terror and aggression. Watching the Americans leave the Iraqis and Afghans in the lurch would make any assurance that we’d stick around to help Israel meaningless to the Isrealis. That would lead to a “Thanks, but no thanks” attitude on their part as well as the likelihood that they’d start taking matters into their own hands and trigger a regional war.
Third, Mutually Assured Destruction only works against rational enemies who value their own lives. The Islamist strain of Mohammedanism is a death cult; threatening them with an express ticket to paradise is hardly going to give them pause.
It’s certainly tempting to say “A pox on all of you” and quit the field. But that wouldn’t end the fight, it’d only move it from their front yard to ours. And frankly, if we’re going to end up breaking things and killing people somewhere whether we want to or not, I’d rather it be on their turf.
Balls. Always at the center of controversy.
Remember that “South Park” episode about “Chocolate Salty Balls”?
Berkeley was outraged about it for months.
Guess it’s not the balls this is about for the ROPO. Imagine the worst reactions would be if any of the IslamoPurist watchdogs saw a child pick the ball up with their left hand. Oh me oh my. Impure.
In American Indian circles, accepting gifts is always done with the left hand.
Go figure.
Let them rage like teen aged brats.
Mass deportation begins in five minutes.
I say stay in the region and run the table, before Iran gets a nuke, with one caveat.
GET CONDI RICE and her pant suits OUT OF THE REGION, NOW!
Heh, I thought Balls of Fury was a strange, oddball, comedic (see also: BAD) movie, not another form of Islamic Rage™. Go figure. *sigh*
The biggest problem with that is that it wouldn’t work. The Soviet Union was evil, but it was also rational. They had people in charge who wanted to stay alive.
The people we’re fighting now are decidedly not rational. They veiw fiery death in combat with the infidel to be a desireable outcome. MAD will not work with such
peoplesavages.Whew! I thought it was another Larry Craig story.
This is Great, now I want one of my own, I keep looking at the photo. Where are the Evil Marketers, I just know they are behind this. I am going to go check ebay GRIN.
Soccer Balls for children. What a travesty! I’m guessin the Seattle PI prints a picture of this.
About that MAD policy I mentioned. Please forgive my frustration. I do understand that we are not dealing with rational people, and thus logical, rational scenerios do not apply.
That said, what are the realistic alternatives? About the only one I see that makes sense in the face of religious zealots who actually want to die in service to their so called god is to grant them their wish, and the sooner the better and in the largest numbers possible. I wonder if any of these nutballs has even considered that they themselves are slowly painting themselves into a corner where the only alternative left to the civilized world is to wipe them out? Of course, that line of thinking would also require logical, linear thinking which they are apparently unable to do. They create this “Islamophobia” with their crazed, barbaric behavior and then whine and cry about Islamophobia.
IMHO the time for speaking softly is long past, it’s time for the big stick.
Ebay does have about 20 of these world cup soccer balls.
John Q, you were essentially correct in the Cold War analogy, but for the MAD element. As that 45-year contest recedes further into memory, people tend to forget that it cost us much treasure and almost 100,000 combat deaths - and that there were several occasions when the “smart money” was betting on the Other Guys.
Asymmetrical warfare, or low-intensity conflict, is exasperating because it’s so hard to identify what constitutes “victory.” Given the impatience of the American people in general, and the behavior of many Democrats who see partisan opportunity in the prospect of American defeat, the difficulty becomes even greater.
But what wer’re seeing in the present surge in Iraq offers a glimpse of what to aim for: “draining the swamp” by changing enough people’s minds about which side has the determination to prevail:
Take up the White Man’s burden–
Ye dare not stoop to less–
Nor call too loud on Freedom
To cloke your weariness;
By all ye cry or whisper,
By all ye leave or do,
The silent, sullen peoples
Shall weigh your gods and you.
The turn-around in places like Anbar, Fallujah, Ramadi and Diyala shows that the locals can be brought around - once they see that our bug-out after Mogadishu was a fluke and not the rule, and that compared to al Qaeda the “al-Ameriki” are offering a heck of a better prospect for the future.
We are in the early days of what may be a new Cold War. A daunting prospect; but we can take heart in the fact that our parents and grandparents showed that such a contest can be won as long as we don’t lose faith in ourselves, our God and our country.
“Now the trumpet summons us again — not as a call to bear arms, though arms we need; not as a call to battle, though embattled we are — but a call to bear the burden of a long twilight struggle, year in and year out, ‘rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation’ — a struggle against the common enemies of man: tyranny, poverty, disease, and war itself.”
– John F. Kennedy Inaugural Address, Friday, January 20, 1961
I’d say it’s cafe-press time again. osama balls. hussein balls. [as in obama hussein]. dirty muslim cartoon balls. is there any end to the economic stimulus this will inspire?
56# citizen
They had me at forbidden. It has come to this, I do not want evil taliban balls, I do not want evil taliban balls!! ROFL
“I have a wide stance.”
- Senator Craig, 2007
Wow - where has America gone?
I am waiting for the Taliban to come out with their official holy regulated Soccer Balls. There will be an announcement, People of Afghanistan, you may only play with our holy Taliban balls, not dirty Infidel balls….death to America, yadda, yadda, yadda.
No more free balls. Let them play with their own balls.
You can’t win with these savages. I’m reminded of the adage “No good deed shall go unpunished.”
I’d prefer we not drop soccer balls, but drop bombs.
Islam is a very paranoid religion. Probably for good reason.
Look at the world of today. The incredible medicines, the machines…from the delicate medical devices to the monstrous earthmoving titans, the world of electronics - especially the computers and their application to making our world a better place. Then consider all of the underlying discoveries in mathematics, chemistry, physics, and other sciences. Now understand that the muslim had nothing to do with any of it. He was, and is, irrelevant in the advance of civilization. A fair observer would conclude that ignorance and fear are requirements for the existence of islam. The muslim is filled with rage because he knows it all too well.
