The forbidden Opus cartoons
Update: More dhimmi details in FoxNews.com’s coverage.
If you haven’t already been to Berkeley Breathed’s website to see the first of two syndicated “Opus” cartoons that many of his newspaper clients are refusing to run because they might offend members of the Religion of Perpetual Outrage, go there now. Many blogs noted this story last week while I was traveling. See HA for full background.
The LATimes, surprisingly, ran the cartoon yesterday, according to LAObserved.
According to Breathed’s syndicated, some 25 newspapers refused to run the strips.
Let’s have the names, shall we? If your paper regularly carried Opus, but didn’t run yesterday’s strip, speak now.

Reader Bob e-mails: “Add the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette to the dhimmi column, they ran a different Opus strip yesterday.”
Reader Scott: “Add Dallas Morning News to those who do not wish to offend.”

I dont’ think it’s surprising, as someone who has been reading the paper for many, many moons. If this innocuous, and deadly dull, strip is offensive to anyone, that person needs help.
The Cincinnati Enquirer did run the strip yesterday which was somewhat surprising considering their editorial cartoonist is Jim Borgman.
I made a point to pick up my local paper (The Albuquerque Journal,we live too far out for delivery) yesterday & they had it.
Seems like all the subscribers of the 25 cowardly papers are trying to see what’s missing: “Service Unavailable” at the site.
The Lexington (KY) Herald-Leader carried it, and I was SHOCKED! I unsubscribed a long time ago to this liberal rag, and only pick up the occasional Sunday paper. Couldn’t believe my eyes…
Libs kill me. They’re so tolerant of intolerance.
The Atlanta Journal Constipation ran it. Boy was I suprised. The only reason I buy the paper is because of the comics, Metro sections.
The Boston Globe did not run it. More here.
The comic strip pokes fun at a man who is learning how to kowtow to radical Islam, but the strip is censored by liberal newspaper editors, who have already mastered this skill.
Exactly who are they shielding from ridicule?
My employer uses the commercial traffic-monitor Websense, which has blocked both Breathed’s website and the specific URL at salon.com (I can get to the rest of salon.com just fine).
“phbbtt!”
Let the seething begin. Another demonsration to show the infidels what a tolerant and peaceful religion islam is.
What good is it to have a free press when it’s staffed with those who would be slaves?
What does the legacy of Thomas Paine and John Peter Zenger amount to when it’s handed to people who self-censor without even waiting for the protests to begin?
You can never over-estimate the cowardice of a liberal.
Agreed. Is there a cartoon for that?
Maybe Cox & Forkum can do one.
Sorry, I no longer buy newspapers. Oh, wait, I take that back. I’m not sorry.
LOL. Me either although I often wish I subscribed to the LAT, NYT or the WSJ so I could cancel my subscription!
ROFL!!!!!! What a great idea!!
Those in charge of the paper value their lives. It’s as simple as that.
And, their lives are meaningless because they can’t take a stand on principals….thank GOD that great men of our history did take a stand on principals, and gave us the rule of Law we have today, so they can be spinless ameobas!
The Houston Comical printed it, I was surprised they had the intestinal fortitude to do so. More likely the editor was asleep at the switch and it went through without anyone noticing. but then again this editor has been known to run stories about some pretty objectionable material too.
The last panel is wrong by the way:
“Your wives are as a tilth unto you; so approach your tilth when or how ye will; but do some good act for your souls beforehand; and fear God. And know that ye are to meet Him (in the Hereafter), and give (these) good tidings to those who believe. (The Noble Quran, 2:223)”
But perhaps they are commenting that she isn’t his wife so he’s sleeping on the couch now…..
The Chicago Tribune ran it.
I wonder what is in the future for Lola Granola aka Fatima Struggle, when she continues her spiritual journey and leaves Islam.
Aaron, death of course. Islam is like the Mob, there is no retirement program.
With Breathed at the brush, she is likely to be pummeled with stale donuts and day old French bread.
I’d say their jihad is moving along right on schedule…
Austin American-Statesman did not run the comic; like others ran an alternate.
What’s a newspaper?
am pretty sure those who ran the cartoon thought it was a slam against christianity, bush, america, etc…
“News organizations which abandon the American people in time of crisis will wither as the truth of their treasons becomes evident.”
I grew up on Bloom County, and in 1988 in High Sschool had a t-shirt that said, “Don’t blame me, I voted for Bill and Opus.”
So to quote Billy Boy…”ack!”
The above comments might not seem like intelligent debate, but neither are the supporters of Sharia law who found that comic strip objectionable.
I am sure those who criticized that strip worship at the altar of that liberal pompous gasbag Gary Trudeau, since he only uses his strip to lambaste conservative republicans and Christians.
Berkeley Breathed is a liberal. He might wish to rethink that. This conservative does not want him censored.

No censorship, no Sharia…ever.
Respectfully,
eric
WaPo is in fact displaying the Opus of 26 August, at
http://www.uclick.com/client/wpc/wpopu . Breathed said they were not, but perhaps he was referring to the print edition.
Washington Post failed to run it. They are also showing the uncensored cartoon over at comics.com.

There is a cartoon showing harry reid putting up a white flag of surrender over the American flag with the soldiers in a pose of the Marines hoisting the flag over Mount Saribachi (sp?)
Are these Muslims aware of the fact that if they go in the water with their ‘burkinis’ we would have one helluva wet t-shirt contest going on. Better re-think your beach attire Muslim brotherhood.
