Hsu-rrender!

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 31, 2007 01:11 PM

Hillary’s fugitive fund-raiser is no longer a fugitive:

A top Democratic fundraiser wanted as a fugitive in California turned himself in Friday to face a grand theft charge.

A judge in San Mateo County Superior Court ordered Norman Hsu handcuffed and held on $2 million bond. A bail hearing was scheduled for Sept. 5, at which the judge will consider reducing his bail to $1 million.

Hsu appeared in court here Friday following reports that he had skipped his sentencing on a 1991 grand theft charge. In the ensuing years, he became a top donor to numerous Democratic candidates, including presidential contenders Hilary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama.

Ed Morrissey corrects the AP:

The AP has this incorrect. He already pled guilty to the charge; he’s being held for sentencing. In 1992, he agreed to serve a three-year sentence. Hsu will probably face more time for his flight to avoid prison.

How long will it take for the Paw and Lee families to raise the $200,000 necessary for a bond to spring Hsu?

Here’s the statement from Hsu’s lawyer:

In response to media and other inquiries, Jim Brosnahan, attorney for Norman Hsu and a partner at the law firm of Morrison & Foerster issued the following statement: “The 15 year old legal matter that Norman Hsu has is moving toward resolution. We arranged for him to appear in court and put up monies for bail, which can also be used for restitution to any persons who might still be unpaid. We have had productive preliminary conversations with the Attorney General’s office concerning resolution of this old matter. “

Good to hear … but the one fact that still bothers me … “15 Years?” … my son once mailed in a check for a traffic citation … somehow although the check cleared his bank his name did not get cleared from the court appearance list … they issued a warrant for his arrest for “Failure to appear” … he found out when they actually stopped him and took him in … he had to take time off from work to get the matter straightened out after having to post a cash bond to get out of jail … so how does this “high profile” individual not get picked up for 15 years? … talk about different treatment … BTW … has anyone heard yet whether like all the H’wood and Kennedy’s he’s already in some form of “rehab”? …

Good question. My understanding is he pled guilty and was supposed to serve time.

Now he comes back into custody – shouldn’t he just “Go to jail. Go directly to jail. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200.00?”

Exactly, start the 3 year term pronto and then add one for every year he was a fugitive. Unless he wants to spill some beans on all his other fraudulent funding endeavors then reduce the added time on the value of the info.

Here’s a great idea for a sting operation to catch fugitives. Invite them through the grapevine to contribute to Hillary’s campaign and invoke the name of Marc Rich. Then, follow the trail when the money rolls in.

Just remembering the great two for one deal we got during the last Clinton Administration. If you count another term for the famous two for one team we get a third turn in the barrel so to speak.
