Tony Snow resignation date: Sept. 14
Via AllahPundit, White House spokesman Tony Snow is exiting Sept. 14. Who should replace him?

1:40pm Eastern. President Bush comments…
Although no reason was given, Snow recently told conservative radio talk show host Hugh Hewitt that, due to financial reasons, he did not expect to remain on the White House staff through the remainder of President Bush’s term.
Bush told reporters Friday that he will “sadly accept” Snow’s resignation.
Flanked by Snow and Perino in the White House press room, the president spoke warmly of his departing press secretary.
“It’s been a joy to watch him spar with you,” Bush told reporters.
Bush said he was certain of two things in regard to Snow.
“He’ll battle cancer and win,” Bush said, “and he’ll be a solid contributor to society.”
Turning to Snow, the president then said: “I love you, and I wish you all the best.”
12:45pm Eastern. Tony Snow’s holding a press conference about his resignation. Joking with Helen Thomas. Will think about what to do next…will “try to do some good.”

From the wires:
Tony Snow, the highly visible White House press secretary, will leave his job on Sept. 14 and be replaced by his deputy, Dana Perino, an administration official said Friday.
President George W. Bush was to announce the changes during an appearance in the White House briefing room.

Thanks for the memories…some choice vid clips of Tony’s tenure:
*Snow on John Kerry’s botched Irak “joke.”
*Snow to Helen Thomas: “Thank You For The Hezbollah View.”
*May 16, 2006 debut: Snow vs. Helen Thomas.

Michelle Malkin
Alberto Gonzales!
Don’t make me snort.
Snort!
“Pageant Girl” yikes!
I wish Tony Snow the best, I like him and hope all goes well for him.
Ann Coulter
Ted “Kiss my Glock” Nugent
Hey, I can dream
Sorry to see Tony go; I hope this doesn’t mean his health has taken a turn for the worse
.
As for a replacement, I vote for Ted Nugent.
Can you just imagine Nuge in the WH Press Room with sleeveless cowboy shirt and rattlesnake skin cowboy hat fielding a question from David Gregory?
“HEY DAVID GREGORY! @#$% ON THIS WILL YA!?”
This makes me sad as Tony Snow is the best. Big shoes to fill.
Tony, be well and God bless you always.
My vote goes to Helen Thomas. Let her deal with the loonies!
It’s been very painful watching Tony fade these past few months. He needs a miracle, I fear.
Michelle would be a great choice … but she already has a higher calling right here …
My most sincere best wishes for Tony, his health and his family …
He has truly been a breath of fresh air in the press corps briefing room …
I am sure David Gregory and Helen Thomas will truly miss him …
God bless him, hard to replace Tony.
If I were Bush, though, I would choose Kirsten Powers. She’s a democrat. That ought to throw the libs in a tizzy. But, more than that, she’s got a lot more going for her…she’s poised, smart as a whip, doesn’t lose her cool, is fact oriented, and as close as a democrat can come to having common sense. She’s an absolute perfect match for our dear Michelle who exhibits the same wonderful qualities, although we want to keep her here, working for US.
I hear Don Imus is looking for work …
Actually, if Ari Fleisher came back for a second tenure, that would be fantastic. I thought he was incredible.
Keith Olbermann – would love to see his face as he’s forced to defend the Administration viewpoints………..
Wish Tony had stayed at Fox News. Especially enjoyed he and O’Reilly on the air together. He would have been happier and less stressed back at Fox.
Wish him the best.
Here’s a tongue-in-cheek short list:
From the left:
Chris Matthews
Rev. Al Sharpton
Alan Colmes
Arianna Huffington
Kos
Scott Beauchamp
From the right:
Hannity
Malkin
Coulter
Dobbs
Carlson
Go with God, Tony.
In all seriousness, I wish Tony the best. He has done a fantastic job in this position and he will be dearly missed, I’m sure, by the Administration, and certainly so by us.
God Bless You, Tony – and all of our thoughts, prayers and best wishes go out to you and your family.

Although I would have liked to see Tony still on Fox News his journalistic standing forced a new level of respect from the “press corps” … usually the Presidents Press Spokesperson has no background in the media and is not able to effectively stand up to some of the people in that room …
jrlingreenbay
How about Elisabeth Hasselback … if she can put up with Rosie then Helen Thomas should be a snap …
and Dana Perino is the one….
My nominations are:
10 Paris Hilton
9 Steven Colbert
8 Keith Olberman
7 Chris “I Didn’t read the Book” Matthews
6 Malik “I’m a whore” Shabazz
5 Fonzie Rivera
4 Don Imus
3 Helen Thomas
2 Rosie
1 Lettuce head
The problem with the job is that you’ve got to submerge any and all opinions you personally have and wholeheartedly support your boss’s opinions and ideas, no matter how ignorant or revolting. And that goes for whatever party holds the office.
I’d like to see MKH on a short list, but only because it would make the briefings MUCH more watchable…
How about ol’ Rummy? I loved his Pentagon briefings…
Or maybe Rush?
josetheguerilla,
Are you sure that’s nominations or is it a hit list?
Aj
I think some of my nominations are on Mrs. Malkin’s Ka-Ka list.
God Bless Tony snow. I hope he comes back to Fox news.
José
Well, if Chertoff got the position, he would be head of Homeland Security.
Here’s a serious nomination: David Limbaugh.
I meant “wouldn’t be….”
PIMF!
I got it…
.
TOMMY !
.
he’s transparent.
I know who, AllahPundit!
DOn’t know Tony personally, but by golly he seems like a great kinda guy.
I’ll be praying for ya, Mr Snow.
I saw Tony on tv yesterday and he does not look well at all and I hope that just relaxes and gets well. I was really mad at him for his spin on AMNESTY but I pray for his full recovery.
Bad news for Bush… Tony was excellent. Going to miss him.
Rosie
I will miss you Tony. You have become one of my heroes.
From your great defense of conservative values on Fox TV and radio to your unbelievable dedication to your family, you are my hero.
From your willingness to sacrifce your career to stand by our President to your unflappable courage in your fight against cancer, you are my hero.
As one who stood and fought with many heroes in my life, I count you among them. God bless you Tony Snow.
You and your families are in my prayers. Always have been and always will be.
Ted Nugent
Seriously, Tony is one of the few people in D.C. that I admire. I wish him all the best.
Tony Snow for President …..
and I am serious …
Will Tony Snow ever be able to regain the credibility he squandered mouthing the Team Dubya party line? I call the GOP the Stupid Party because of an old column of his and to see him attacking conservatives, his former brethren, at the behest of his West Wing masters was depressing to witness.
Here’s to hoping he beats cancer and gets back to pressing the GOP to stop drifting left. Unfortunately, I suspect he is too classy and loyal to bite the hand that fed him.
I do like Tony Snow, when I see him on TV, I can see the toll his cancer treatment is taking on him. My prayers to Tony Snow, stay positive!! I only have good thoughts for you.
I don’t know who could take his place, he has done such a great job.
What lost credability?
His job was to articulate the position of the PotUS. Not tell us what he thinks.
When yuo are Press Secretary, your thoughts and opinions get set aside. You act as – for lack of a better term – a Defense Lawyer. You might think it’s the dumbest postion possible, but if the Prez says do it, you defend the stance to the best of your ability.
Tony did a great job with that, and I thank him for it. He was the best advocate Pres. Bush could have prayed for.
Again, I’m praying for you, Tony…
DirkBelig, Tony was smart enough and, as you said, classy enough to reconcile his views and those he had to represent. Also he won’t lose any credibility, people understand the difference betwenn White House Spokesman and private citizen.
Yet another…. Snow Job?
So long Tony and thanks for doing an outstanding job. Regardless of what position he had to defend he did it with class. A job I would never want, having to deal with the moronic bottom feeders that call themselves the Washington Press Corps or defend some of the bonehead decisions coming out of the White House. I will miss his whit and the way he put many of the idiots in their place.
Good luck Mr. Snow and may you continue to defeat your illness.
For his health I’m glad he’s leaving. He seems like a truly nice person, and I wish him the best.

I understand that, but I can’t square this with reality. Besides, didn’t the “we were just following orders” excuse flop for the Nazis?
We were led to believe that Tony would be able to articulate the concerns of the conservative citizenry to those living inside the Bush Bubble. Instead, he drank the Kool-Aid, toed the line and called his own integrity into question. How soon before the Kos Kidz shred something he says privately in the future with, “When you were press secretary to Chimpy McDumbass, you said X, now you say Y. Were you lying then or are you lying now?”
I couldn’t do it. If he was just a mouthpiece or pol sidekick (a la Matthews, Russert, Ingraham) who went pundit, that would be one thing, but he went from journalist and commentator to mouthpiece/water-carrier and now is coming back after having contradicted his private views by expressing the Administration’s positions du jour. He won’t retract his words from the gig now, so we’ll just have to wonder. Too bad.
Bob,
Really, Well then maybe we should revist and critique the last Democratic Presidency, that would be Slick Willy’s Administration, how did his Press Secretary have to deal with the Monica Lewinsky debacle everyday…should we all google it!!! What was some of those other things Bill Clinton’s Press Secretary had to contend with? I have not forgotten the Clinton Years and the none stop coverage and his Press Secretary, being put in really bad situations.
I don’t how we all overlooked Miss South ’such as’ Carolina for the gig.
Sorry Bob #46, I was responding to number #47 DirkBelig, I got caught up and started typing too fast.
Just following orders and defending the POTUS’ position are two different things. The SS were in charge of the death camps and Hitler’s Final Solution, which was genocide in the most vicious manner. Purge for the Reich. To make that comparison is a stretch by any means and has no basis
in reality. What dots do you connect to arrive at such an analogy? Tony Snow
and other press secretaries have done
a decent job.
I wonder how many times Clinton’s people have had to just bite the bullet and stand up for him?
Even Hillary had to stand by him…oops.
She’s a Senator now, trying to run for president on a moderate podium.
Tony Snow isn’t resigning because he hates the job; he is resigning because he is sick and needs the time off. Kudos to Bush for being classy enough to accept his resignation.
I’m glad he’s leaving that position. It was extremely frustrating having to hear him ‘tow the line’( granted, that was his job) especially in settings where one was trying to have a legitimate conversation with him. Think of Glenn Beck and the illegal alien amnesty. Tony would sit there and tell us “It’s not amnesty. Till he turned blue. When, to pretty much anyone with any sense, it clearly was. I mean it was like telling him that the sky was blue and he would argue that it was in fact green.
Anyway, I hope he gets better and eventually comes back in a position where he doesn’t have to behave like some idiotic robot.
