ALso, regarding Vitter, lets not forget something…

Vitter’s transgression was done, most likely, in private.

He wasn’t looking for hookers in public restrooms.

That, to me, is the big difference.

So let's get this straight..Vitter is a client to a high priced hooker but because he more than likely, although we have no way of knowing, didn't look for the hookers in a bathroom, than somehow that is better than Craig? Wow. Oh wait, he wasn't actually caught in the act..is that what you mean?

Well I must say that I do admire your unabashed faith in our (public servants).
Me, well lets just say I am a bit more cynical. I look at the incitements and convictions and seem to think it is more then possible, it is probable.
BTW, you think Hillary is taking all of that $ from felons without conditions?

Yea, keep believing this and it will continue. You ever look at a senators vote and ask yourself hmmm I thought he would had voted the other way? Term limits will eliminate most of this. Our state has had enough of politicians taking advantage of their office, for any reason.
I also believe that the reason Vitter came clean was because of the exact pressure I am referring to, (shamnesty probably) but thankfully he would not play ball. I also think that the reason Craigs story sat in limbo for 3 month was for much the same reason. Unfortunately we are forcing out our own, while letting the Dems skate along as if nothing happened.
I would list them for you Alphonse, but I am sure you have already justified them in you own head.

Random Thoughts on Larry Craig (R - ID); hypocrisy...

When you've got Bush/Gonzales trying to dismantle the Bill of Rights, most of Washington so corrupt they are actively aiding illegal infiltration and extending an invitation to terrorists, predators, and violent criminals to live among us, the untold billions of corruption in Iraqi reconstruction, and so forth, I can't see why Craig would resign over a trivial morals charge. I guess hypocrisy is in such flower today in Washington that treason and destroying America for corporate sponsors is just a good family value.

I’m not sure I buy the defense of Vitter.
How is Craig’s offense graver than Vitter’s?
What he actually pled guilty to is about the equivalent of a traffic ticket. Vitter on the other hand is an admitted whoremonger.

I find that part of Michelle's argument in this post a bit puzzling too, derel.

I'm not sure what balances and measures determines being a long time serial "john" is not as big a deal as Craigs' "foot-tapping, but no sex" Excellent Bathroom Adventure.

My big disagreement is in the massive bar-lowering in an attempt to defend and save Vitter. The "He didn't get caught while commiting his crimes" excuse is obviously Clintonian in scope.

"purplepeep - The thing there is the GOP is now put in the very embarrassing position of having to defend Vitters"

general company said:
No they don’t, he is my Senator and I have personally called his office and asked him to resign, even if he doesn’t I doubt he will run again, and if he does he will not win. The thing here that is so important is not weather these guys are pervs or whatever, it is the simple fact that these transgressions often lead to blackmail. I think the world of Vitter as a person and politician, he has been very good for the GOP, but what would of happened if Kennedy or Reid found out about this? We cannot afford these kind of politicians.

Hiya general co. -

I meant Republicans as a group, the GOP. I thinks it's great that you had your say as an individual and a constituent, not just someone caught in a mindless Frankenstein monster chase mob. In these type of things the people who vote 'em in can show them the door out - or not, if they want.

I dunno about the blackmail part too much, general c - though I imagine the potential is there, I'm not aware of any statistics or it having been a major problem with Senators.

If it were, I think it would be the secret money dealings that would a be better draw for blackkmailers.

First, because politicians love money more than sex - there's more pickins' to be had in money scandals for a potential blackmailer.

Second, the punishment for anything sex-related only involves serving jail time in vary rare cases. Not so with hanky panky with money. There's more to lose than just a Senate seat.

I know there has been concern for a long time when it comes to the intelligence community having "blackmailable" secrets. I'm not up much on if there's been any big or ongoing problem with federal office holders that way.

William Teach: Yet, he wasn’t caught doing that. He did nor perform any sex act. Had he been busted for that, no, I would not support him. But right now, the GOP will be painted, yet again, as anti-gay and intolerant in the media.

This was a no win situation for the GOP, if the Dems are not painting us as anti-gay then they paint us as supporting a perv. And if he is innocent then why did he plead guilty? Would you have, I know I wouldn't had.

Mr_Conservative_Cat said: More and more I am absolutely convinced that the Dem politicians are not the problem, it’s the liberal media which is the true enemy of this country, because in a fair and balanced media world, the extremism - which is now considered “center” - would just vanish in a more civilized (read balanced) society.

Could not agree more, but it will take more then Fox to turn this around. The folks that don't watch Fox will never know any bias.

I'm not sure I buy the defense of Vitter.

How is Craig's offense graver than Vitter's?

What he actually pled guilty to is about the equivalent of a traffic ticket. Vitter on the other hand is an admitted whoremonger.
