Update 9/6: Liberal logic. Rivera threatens to spit on me. Ergo, I am the Worst Person in the World.
The Boston Globe has a fawning Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous-ish profile of Fox News Channel’s Geraldo Rivera. In between musing about his favorite pair of soft Uggs (”I’ve worn these in Tora Bora and Somalia,” he says, admiring the suede slip-ons with the sheepskin lining. “They’re so comfortable. I love them.”), his “36-foot Hinckley powerboat,” and his massive estates (including “Seagate, the spectacular, 10-bedroom estate he bought several years ago with his fourth wife” and another “Kennedy-esque compound” with his current wife), he spews this:
Rivera, who as a fledgling lawyer in the ’70s counseled the Puerto Rican nationalist group the Young Lords, says he can’t stomach the politicians and pundits who are stoking “anti-immigrant hysteria,” and his antipathy extends to some of his colleagues at Fox.
“Michelle Malkin is the most vile, hateful commentator I’ve ever met in my life,” he says. “She actually believes that neighbors should start snitching out neighbors, and we should be deporting people.
“It’s good she’s in D.C. and I’m in New York,” Rivera sneers. “I’d spit on her if I saw her.”
Ewwww!
Well, I suppose I should be grateful for the warning. Next time I’m up in New York, I’ll be sure to wear one of these:

UNhinged? Has Geraldo ever been hinged? I don’t think so…
He is quite a superficial and despicable human being seemingly incapable of rational thought. Other than that, though, he’s a wonderful fellow.
One key to the character of a person is who their friends and enemies are. To have Geraldo as an enemy says nothing but good about you.
Does this mean we get Smackdown 2?. I doubt it though, I’ve noticed that you and Geraldo have been kept apart this summer while you were filling in for Bill. He should be made to answer for his comments as they are exactally the kind of hate speech O’Reily had be condemning

I think his displaced rage goes back to getting spanked a little too hard when he was a tyke.
The way he starts to sputter and spout when a conservative political commentator addresses him suggests that perhaps he has internalized a deep envy of those who can keep their corks in place.
It’s safe to say he has dollar and marital issues that have spilled over into his public life. Not to say these should be dwelled upon or offered as some ad hominem critique of his schtick.
But, come on, “I’d spit on her if I saw her” ???

Once again, the basic difference which eludes Geraldo is that MM and others are not against immigrants, they are illegal and criminal immigrants.
GR and his ilk see no distinction. GR is a high-profile example of liberal blinders. He cannot make the distinction between the two.
Perhaps ‘blinders’ is even the wrong word – it’s a pair of racial goggles that only allows the wearer to see an argument, viewpoint or fact along racial lines.
One point in the news recently is a study of how my blacks are incarcerated in proportion to their percentile make-up in our state. The Democratic administration of our Governor wants to study what we, as a society, can do to remedy it.
The remedy is simple, and begins in those minority communities – STOP COMMITING MORE CRIMES.
Such is the simplicity of the illegal immigration problem – ENFORCE THE BORDERS – DEPORT THE CRIMINALS – NO AMNESTY. But the left sees ‘race’ written all over it – and when they don’t see race, they see poverty, and wonder why our country can’t open its arms to those in need.
Yet they conveniently forget how much our country already does so, to the cost of billions of dollars each year to US taxpayers.
As for his spitting comment, it just goes to show what a low-life creature he truly is. MM is an educated, articulate, mother and wife who simply has a different viewpoint and expresses her views not only in print and media, but by vocalizing and mobilizing others to the conservative cause.
It’s amazing to me that he would ’spit’ on Michelle Malkin but has never offered the same hatred towards vocal advocates of our enemies.
That says a lot.

I recently wrote to Fox about Geraldo.
I wish like heck they would get rid of him. He is everywhere, besides having his own show and over-talks whoever the other guest may be. Recently Sean invited Tom Tancredo on, and this man hardly got to say a word because of Geraldo and I blame Sean also for this.
Geraldo needs to go, or leave him just on his won show if you want. But he should be held accountable for those very hateful words towards Michele. It’s like Fox can’t touch him, but I wish they would, he ruins the show and the words he used against Michelle are what he really feels. How can Fox or anyone defend him?

I think that says all it needs to about Geraldo. Being famous is what’s important to him. How many journalists are out there, more concerned with getting it right, than being famous?
If getting your butt-fat injected into your face ( I still love that one ) and getting into fist-fights on tv are you way of being famous and therefore having a great career, then you need some serious help.
I’ll be over here talking with the journalist with a history of getting things right and telling the story honestly. Perhaps sipping a Caramel Machiatto, right Michelle?

The Boston Globe piece has given me some insight into his mental problems—I think he had a fatty embolism from his forehead buttocks transplant travel to what is left of his brain. This explains the Tourette’s like symptoms as he is brain damaged.
Exactly. I predict that his Fox days are numbered. His ratings will continue to fall, and he will go back to the MSM wasteland where his style of substance is welcomed.
It has always been clear to me that Geraldo was a liberal in conservative sheeps clothing. I put up with him, because at some point in the War, he seemed to at least have the courage of going to Iraq, unlike many other so called war journalists.
However, his motivations became fairly obvious; and like all things he has done, it was claearly about him and not the subject he was reporting.
I do not watch O’Reilly when he is on; I turn the station and I certainly don’t watch any weekend shows staring Rivera. I wonder how Geraldo effects O’Reilly’s ratings.
He is an irritating man who has little to offer the world in ‘reasonable’ debate and commentary. If I were Michelle Malkin I would consider it an honor to be despised by him.

I suspect Fox’s endeavor to show fair and balanced personalities provides for such examples as GR. It allows us to see just how vile and repulsive the other stages themselves to make their insubstantial points and gain contentious attention.

Name calling like Geraldo is doing is what liberals do when they lose arguments. You should send him an e-mail that says: “Dear Geraldo, thank you for admitting defeat in the illegal immigration debate. Your descent into name-calling and personal attacks signals very loudly that you have come to the realization that I am right and you are wrong. Again, thank you for seeing the light on this important issue. I hope we can work together in the future to stop illegal immigration, something we now both agree must occur.”
And a couple of thoughts:
1)Please don’t defend Michelle by making rude remarks about Geraldo’s ethnicity. You just sound like an ass and give race-baiters like Geraldo some talking points.
2) A small correcton for Geraldo: He has not been “famous” for 40 years; he’s been “infamous” for about 25. There’s a big difference.
Are world events making you queasy? Do facts and logic interfere with your happy world? Do you long for the good old days when emotional virtiol trumped rational thought? We have the solution.
Geritaldo. Just one dose and you will drift into a land of senseless nirvana, where comfort awaits free from intrusion by cogent thought.

Speaking of Geraldo, I was pleasantly surprised when I heard one of my fellow seminarians, upon seeing Mr. Rivera on Fox News ranting about the usual, say, “He needs to be deported!”

Something else to add:
When we are strolling down Geraldo’s memory lane, don’t forget the incident that really sealed my opinion of the Mustachio. He decided that he should draw a sand map of the immediate future movements of the 101st Airborne Division on live world-wide TV, while embedded with our Screaming Eagles. Saddam still had a military that was resisting, and an intelligence service monitoring world media for any information they could glean. Did he consider operational security at all? No. He considered his sensationalist, self aggrandizing “reporting” more important than the operational success of one of the most legendary military units in American history. Not to mention the increased risk to the individual soldiers of that unit. He better be glad all that happened was his humiliation by being asked to leave the theater of battle. If Saddam’s forces were more competent, and ours less so, it could have been a disaster for our forces.

Spitting on another person is indeed a crime. It is considered a “battery” under common law and can be successfully prosecuted. In Maryland, it is a misdemeanor and generally charged as Assault and Battery.
However, stating to a third party that you have a deisre to spit on someone is not a crime. Therefore, Gerald “The Coward” did not yet commit a crime and I’m sure he knows that. Even though he’s ignorant, he’s not that stupid.
I have written The Factor and informed them that I expect Bill to onfront “The Coward” about these discriminatory, hate filled comments on his weekly segment with “The Coward”. I would hope that all of us would let Bill know how we feel about the provacative words spoken by this clown.
By the way, “The Coward” has not yet called me. I’ll let you know what he has to say for himself when he does call.
Geraldo is a wimp (and something else rhyming with ‘hissy’) trying to act tough when he can’t stand up to a light breeze. I still remember him bragging with a pistol that he’d plug OBL, he’d probably get so scared he’d drop it and shoot himself in the foot.
Here’s a guy who has always pleaded with the MSM to take him seriously.
After that spitting comment, how is it possible that anyone could mistake him for anything but a simpering sot of a whining coward?
I sincerely hope, as some have suggested here, that someone bring this to the attention of the powers that be at Fox. He should be fired for that comment, pure and simple.
People should write O’Reilly as well as FOX as he regularly has Mr.Saliva on his show.

I kind of side with Allah (H.A.) on this one. Geraldo is way to good of a source of endless material to wish him canned. Let’s just voice & e-mail our displeasure to FOX and keep him on to kick around for a while! His comments just show his true colors.

I’ve seen this fact thrown around a lot, and I’m very interested in seeing where you get it. When you say “a large majority” are you saying that most Americans want Law Enforcement to verify someone’s immigration status if they assume they are here illegally (thus becoming an inconveinence to people who might match certain assumptions based on how they dress, talk, stand or look)? Or are you just saying that a lot of people in the country wouldn’t mind if everyone had to carry around a “tamper proof biometric ID card” as has been suggested by Rudy Guiliani?
(Interesting people are making fun of GR because of his multiple divorces and convienently look past Guiliani’s personal shortcomings… but I digress)
The latest polls I look at show Americans just want a solution as opposed to the Ann Coulter methodology of just rounding up people. In fact, most people agree with BOR that this is highly unlikely and unreasonable.
Not trying to be a smart alleck, but I’d like to look at the source of your argument. As far as the content of what GR said, I don’t see how anyone can defend that kind of language. Totally unacceptable.

The man is an idiot. Remember, liberalism is driven, not by logical thought, but emotion. Their entire philosophy is emotion-driven. I know, I used to be…sigh…a far left liberal once myself. Unfortunately, in order for this to be a crime, “The Coward” would have to be in the physical presence of MM and then make that statement. The fact that he made it to a 3rd party several hundred miles away makes this statement a non-crime.
I have been in situations where a criminal told me to my face that he would like to kill me, but even that was not a crime. That did not preclude me from eliminating his freedom for other crimes committed in my presence but a person making a threat must be able to carry out that threat for it to be a crime. At least, that’s what I always taught in police academies and that’s the way the courts have always interpreted it.
But, you’re right, there’s no sense in splitting hairs. The real crime is that “The Coward” should keep his mouth shut and give Michelle the respect that she deserves, but I suspect he treats all women this same way.
I am not defending “The Coward”. Quite the opposite. He makes me sick in my stomach every time he opens his mouth.
We need to begin getting the language right. An ‘Immigrant’ is legal. An ‘Illegal Alien’ has broken the law and by definition is a criminal. If Illegal Aliens cannot make a living in this country, they will leave under their own power.
If you let your adversary chose the language of the debate you have already lost.
