Illegal alien TB carrier to be released
Remember the illegal alien TB carrier in Atlanta? They’re letting him go and trusting him to show up for a deportation hearing in a few weeks.
Yes, really. It happens all the time. That misplaced trust is why we have hundreds of thousands of deportation fugitives on the loose today. The “notice to appear” letter that the article mentions here is known in open-borders circles as a “run letter.” As in: Don’t actually do what the letter orders you to do. Just run!
For crying out loud:
The Mexican day laborer jailed in Gwinnett County for refusing tuberculosis treatment could be released by the end of this week, health officials said Tuesday.
But even though Francisco Santos would no longer be contagious, the 17-year-old would still not be cured — and he would not be a completely free man.
Santos will be handed over to the custody of his mother, and both have signed a legally binding consent order saying he will comply with nine months of treatment and not leave the area.
In addition, when Santos leaves the Gwinnett County jail, federal immigration officials say they will hand him a notice to appear in court for deportation.
Remember: Santos was going to ignore health officials and walk out the door. Now, they’re just going to “hope and pray” that he does what he asked them to do. Loco:
Gwinnett health officials jailed Santos Aug. 24 after he refused treatment for an active, contagious case of tuberculosis and threatened to flee to his native Mexico. Santos, who lives in Duluth, quickly started treatment. The events brought to mind the recent case of Andrew Speaker, the Atlanta lawyer who traveled abroad with tuberculosis and was held in isolation when he returned.
Santos’ signing of the consent order prompted health officials to cancel a court hearing planned for today on his confinement.
Santos’ mother, who declined to comment Tuesday, has also been slated for deportation as an illegal immigrant, Rocha said. Enriqueta Palacios and her son are expected to appear before an immigration judge in Atlanta within a few weeks. Those proceedings can take a few months, and, pending appeals and other actions, the final deportation could come soon after that or take several more months.
In total, he may not be deported for another two years, which would provide him time to receive the treatment locally.
Gwinnett health officials say they have stressed to Santos and his mother that leaving the area and neglecting his treatment could injure him, his family and the public. He would become a fugitive and he could become contagious again.
“They’ve given every indication that they understand … and they’ve given no clues that they intend to do anything but accept the treatment and we hope and pray that’s what they adhere to,” said county health spokesman Vernon Goins.
Four other members of Santos’s family tested positive for TB.

What is so difficult about walking this law-breaker out the doors, into a bus, and drive him across the border?
Let Mexico treat his ailment.
Another burden on US taxpayers and another bone-headed move by liberal thinking.
Unbelievable. This guy and his family are so much more a risk to the public than a high-profile lawyer with ties to the community and nation — who was jailed for treatment.
I can’t comprehend this. The stupidity of our judicial system and the Feds. Apparently none of them give a rat’s ass for American citizens who now have the opportunity to get TB. What is it going to take for our government to protect its citizens? This is outrageous!!!
I’ve been depoyed overseas for 3 years now and reading about crap like this is making me NOT want to come back home.
Can you say how fast can we leave GA and move to another state!
Could they at least give this guy a place to stay? Like maybe in Chertoff’s basement? At least then we’d know where he was when it came time to deport.
The stupidity coming out of Washington any more. Makes me want to move to a different country. But then I think, if it was any better there they’d all quit trying to come here.
Oh well, think I’ll go reload another box of shells, that always makes me feel a little better.
This is insane! Our country is no longer functional. Our government constrains us when it shouldn’t and won’t protect us when it should. I am truly ashamed of the US right now. Don’t tell me how wonderful our form of government is. Our governmnet doesn’t give a whit for the rights of citizens. They do what they want. This is sick!
Paraphrasing a thought from, I believe it was Huckabee last night:
I have all this difficulty getting on an airplane …
and this guy is illegal, a health threat to the public, and is set free on the hopes he’ll show up later?
This is truly ‘bizarro world’.
Good Lord. Wake up People. no not you guys.

I agree that the government is not doing the job it is supposed to … but I would remind everyone that We The People are the government and it is Our Responsibility to remove people from office when they do not do the job they were elected to do …
Unfortunately too many people in this country only pay attention to the political happenings during election season …
dl, and these terms for senators should be reduced imho so we can.
I’m all for hoping and praying too, Mr. County Health Spokesmoron, but not on the public dime.
This is totally irresponsible.
Term limits:
Two terms each, one in office, one in jail.
He brought the TB in from Mexico let him take it back.
I voted for George Bush TWICE and he’s the one spearheading open borders-against the wishes of the majority of people who elected him. Mexican truckers can start coming in today, to haul anywhere in the US. That’ll transfer jobs Americans ARE doing over to Mexicans who haul for less. Over 400 legislators in The House of Reps (including most dems) put the kybosh on this earlier in the summer but Bush’s administration sued to get them rolling, won in court and here they come. George Bush was supposed to be ‘our guy,’ yet he steadfastly refuses to close the border. Time and time again, he acts against the American middle class, US workers and those who elected him. He’s going to be gone next election but much damage has been done. The Dems may be worse, although I’ve heard Border Patrol guys say it was actually better for them under Clinton, so maybe not. Bush is doing what he wants. He doesn’t care what the people who elected him want. He doesn’t care about American workers or the US middle class. But, what was our choice last time-Bush or Kerry? I’ll say it again. It isn’t just that “our immigration system is broke.” Our government is broken, and it isn’t just dems.
The bill for him will be added to 3700000000 we are already paying for them.
“Only here to do jobs Americans don’t want to do!” — GWB
Sure they understand, the understand that they have about two or three weeks to disappear…
Which I DON’T understand HOW they could release yet another illegal into our society.
.
.
What I understand, is that this nightmare just wont end.

maybe mom and sick kid should go stay with gerald.
This is insane. The mother is probably an illegal alien, too. Why are the so-called public health officials not looking out for the health and safety of CITIZENS who could be exposed to disease by these third worlders?
This is the Mad Hatter’s tea party.
People who have already broken the law to get into the US have already demonstrated a high propensity for breaking the law in the future. Their promise via a “legally binding” order is not worth the cost of the ink used for their signatures.
With that kind of mentality, we no longer need jails or prisons. Just have anyone who commits a crime pinky swear they are truly sorry and won’t do it again.
Has there ever been a better time to be an illegal alien criminal in America? And watch out for those trucks!
Good news, bad news…
Bad - You get hit by a Mexican truck with no brakes, and your heart stops.
Good - You’re given CPR by the driver who has deadly TB.
Oh wait, there is no good news.
This country is a LOST cause.
There is no hope.
The USA is no longer the land of the free, but the land given freely.
TB? Lawsuits, here they come…spread the germs and watch your loved ones die perhaps.
Someone has got to stop this insanity.
This is why we don’t, and can’t, trust our own government. President Bush is without a doubt a good man and right on many issues - but his failure to live up to his oath of office and the Constitution as far as illegal immigration goes is one big strike against him that pretty much cancels out the good he has done and is trying to do in other areas. He really has a blind spot, a tin ear as far as illegals go, and we the American people are the ones who will suffer.
We’d better elect a President who will make this one of his highest priorities and who will take action not just spout rhetoric.
I made a small mistake.Sorry about that. That amount is closer to 377 billion
Hey, it worked for Norman Hsu …
TB - abbreviation form - Taco Bacteria
Give that illegal little b*****d ninety pills and kiss his butt out of the country. Give him and his Taco Bacteria back to May-he-ko.
Sorry, I got angry.
When I went to Argentina for two years (thus the nick), I was forced to take a TB test - X-ray, mind you, not the pin-prick test - for my visa. I was told that this was for “reciprocity” reasons - we did it to them, so they did it to us.
After serving as a missionary in the decaying slums of Buenos Aires for two years, coming into contact with many people that had TB, and picking up many nagging cardiovascular symptoms, the doctors here were almost sure I had it and rushed me through to X-Ray to make sure I didn’t. Luckily, I came up clean, although whatever I picked up while I was down there still nags me to this day.
There’s a reason for the double standard - lots of them have TB. Very, very few Americans actually contract it here. Sorry, Latin America, but here’s the truth - you have a lot more health problems than we will ever have because your socialized medicine has failed entirely and you live in a state of poverty of your own creation.
Releasing a kid like this is idiocy so long as he may have the disease. I speak from experience - I’ve seen what it does to people up close, and it’s not pretty. Releasing someone who has a contagious disease of this severity to the general public is lunacy.
