Living in Bizarro World: Spit-covered double standards
You’ve probably noticed the new “Notable Quotable” feature on my blog. I think it’s important not to let Geraldo Rivera’s hate speech disappear down the rabbit hole. I am not surprised that he’s gotten away with it. I am not surprised by the almost universal refusal in the MSM to condemn his disgusting threat. Nor will I be surprised when we get cowardly explanations that he didn’t really mean it. Apologists will play the Wonkette card. It was just a joke. Blah, blah, blah.
Nor am I surprised by the drooling pile-on by the Left. If you tolerate a bully, you beget more bullying. Last night, it was MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann frothing at the mouth–citing Geraldo approvingly as he handed out a “Worst Person in the World” award to…me. Really:
Now, can you imagine the uproar if any other female journalist/commentator had been on the receiving end of Geraldo’s rhetorical spittle? This wasn’t an off-the-record comment at a cocktail party or a private remark in a green room. It was on-the-record smear to a Boston Globe reporter.
And the message over the past week has been: This smear/attack/threat is acceptable.
Another little anecdote that reveals what a Bizarro World we live in: To ensure that Geraldo’s spit slam didn’t go quietly into the night, I bought a few ads through Google Adsense and Quigo. I believe in holding people accountable for their words. If you Google “Geraldo Rivera,” you may spot the ad in the sponsored links:
The ad also appeared on the FoxNews.com website…
…until I received an e-mail this morning from ad company Quigo notifying me that the ad had been pulled and my account revoked:
Unfortunately, we had to disable your ad due to offensive content. If you have another ad copy that you would like to use, we would be more than happy to switch it out. Until that time, however, your account will be blocked.
Rich. Just rich.

This is absolutely unbelievable. I am speechless.
That is truly ridiculous on Quigo’s part. I’m not sure what is offensive about using Geraldo’s own words on an ad that comes up when searching his name.
I saw the clip earlier on hotair. I’m sorry you have had to endure this, these pigs are childish immature little rodents who dont deserve the air they breath. Again, my family adores you and wish you all the best this bizarro world has to offer beautiful people like yourself.

Michelle, since you are both contributers to Fox News, it would be interesting to see what they have to say about this. Such as do they condemn his remarks, and if not, why not? And why does Rivera still have a job at Fox? Hang tough; he is light years away from you in both class and profesionalism, but I believe these are the kind of things you can’t just shrug off and let go.
Geraldo has a history of behavioral issues regarding women. One of the reasons he defended Clinton so fiercely was that he personally identified with boorish behavior.
He should apologize.

Here’s what you should do RE: Fox though. Use this as PROOF that what Geraldo said was ‘hate speech’, offensive, and in need of reprimand. All you did was post what he said. It triggered censorship for being hateful (rightly so).
Here’s where you use this to your advantage. DON’T PAY for traffic. DON’T DEMAND that G be punished. Request retribution from FOX in terms of linking to your sites from their HOMEPAGE of foxnews.com. Request that they send traffic to your hotair.com site and michellemalkin.com site by linking to your site from their homepage as some sort of retribution for your ‘coworkers’ attack on you.
Ask for two homepage links. It’ll drive more traffic to your sites and it won’t cost FoxNews a thing. You now have proof that his words were offensive. I got your back girl, trust me.
Michelle, you have living, breathing support in the form of the members of this blog community. You don’t need Quigo.

Could this be fear of lawsuit or fear of some other kind of retribution on the part of Quigo? I’m not condoning their action, just curious as to why they would take such action.

Michelle, when it comes to news coverage about GR, I’m certain you realize the commitment liberals have, especially the MSM, to look the other way when dems are spewing hurtful comments, and to strike out at the other side whenever within reach. Remember, when liberals are quoted in the news, they don’t feel or believe one thing or another as may be implied in made-for-election-season news, they position themselves and make statements which will further their agenda and that of the MSM bosses.

Don’t forget Olberman is also one of the folks on Sunday Night Football on NBC now. I used to watch it since the games were generally better matches and the Monday Night games just caused too much conflict with the work week. I refuse to watch them as long as Uberdunce is on there and encourage others to let NBC know. When their football ratings sink as low as PMSNBC ratings maybe they will get the hint.

As much as I like Ann Coulter’s views on a lot of subjects - I truly dislike her ‘manner of communication’ many times.
MM is much more capable of getting her point across without using some of the colorful conversation that Ann does.
I agree that MM should have more media support against this type of attack, both from GR & KO, but it should come from Fox News execs and hosts.
I love Mark Levin as well ( not in any Minneapolis Mens Room type of way, just agree with him a lot ), but he also can be a bit abrasive.

FNC is lucky that KO is a short bus denizen. How embarrassing would it have been to have had KO condemn Mr. Rivera’s statement and FNC’s failure to address it?
It seems obvious that someone at foxnews.com marked the ad as offensive. I suspect that it was probably a low level employee doing his or her job to protect the brand, but it serves to reinforce further the belief that FNC management has no concern for its employee or values another employee to a greater degree. In the end, one must decide if career prospects and financial concerns outweigh workplace dissatisfaction forcing toleration of one’s treatment by management.
If you would like to bring this matter to a conclusion quickly, I would suggest getting an order of protection in NYC. Fox management would have to acknowledge your concerns and take some sort of action, though the results may not be that for which you had hoped.

That Geraldo Rivera is a self-absorbed boor who never was able to distinguish himself from the story he was supposedly covering? No surprise there.
And a pseudo-intellectual thug like Olbermann rushing in to dogpile on top of Rivera’s boorishness? That’s to be expected.
You’ve known all along, I suspect, that the Left reserves a special venom for two classes of people:
1. Reformed leftists who dare speak the truth (e.g., David Horowitz); and
2. Members of designated “victim” groups who refuse to be corralled onto the plantation of self-pity, resentment and dependence (e.g., You).
It may seem, in our steadily coarsening culture where losing the argument on the merits is viewed by more and more people as a green light to resort to ad hominem assaults, like an uphill battle for you.

I just sent an email to Quigo. Wanted to let them know I was disappointed with them and asked who was offended? Michelle? Nope, it’s her ad. Geraldo? If he didn’t want it printed he shouldn’t have said it in an interview.
What amuses me is that the 14th amendment already gives them equal rights.
Their problem is that they want special rights. The difference is huge, and largely lost on them.
I’d consider it a badge of honor to have Oberdork label me the WPITW; as for G Boy I still want him horse whipped.
Other people who have made Olby’s list, most of them multiple times, include Glenn Beck, O’Reilly, Hannity, and I think he even included Sister Teresa once.
His favorite members of the list are anybody on tv or radio opposite his time slot. He does it to get a reverse mention in the hopes of boosting his ratings. It is a cheap ploy and one that is getting old.
As far as Geraldo, broadcast his words far and wide but let him stand indicted by his own words and don’t engage in any sort of back and forth. Don’t give him the privilege of thinking he is worthy enough to be mentioned in the same breath as Michelle.

Unfortunately, this is only the latest example of media hounds (insert whatever expletive you deem appropriate) and their relentless quest to silence anyone that disagrees with them. If FOX fails to address GR’s threat and ignores a threat was made by one of their own employees, they’ll lose whatever audiance support they’ve acquired these past years. This is not a free speech issue. Had GR made such a threat against Oprah or Rosie you can bet he’d be out there dropping to his knees asking forgiveness and pleading mercy. FOX would see to it, or he’d be fired. It matters not it was not said on the FOX set. There must be something in GR’s contract about public behavior?
Wonder if Michelle’s husband could make a public comment to the tantrum pitch a hissy fit GR on the airwaves.
Something like this:
“Hey little man, how about spitting in MY face. How dare you threaten my wife on national TV. You are a public disgrace. To threaten a woman period is beyond low. There’s no lower depths except the pits of hell for the likes of you. So, bring it on.”

Gayle - just to clarify - the threat was not done on tv, it was done in a newspaper interview.
I’m sure it was done not realizing that it would reach the amount of eyes and ears that it has. Most likely, he was playing his ‘machismo’ up for the reporter as he steered his yacht into the harbor.

Then the site will get traffic from both pro and con Rivera people, and there certainly is a fuss, so it isn’t false advertising.

Seriously, we all have friends, co-workers, relatives and associates where you kick thoughts about. So as not to make it appear that MM is touting this, go to her referenced sources, pull the link and send it to your address book. There are a lot of blind people that have to be hit over the head with a story, from the source, to make it valid. If nothing else, you can show the hypocrisy of GR and his ratings will suffer. Since he’s on FOX in a timeslot that very little else is going on many people will watch simply to fill the void. He’s got to be exposed for what he says, does, and threatens.

This is the same KO that stated, I spoke up, to Abrams and Capus and insisted that Imus be Fired…because remember according to KO, Imus dissed women, in context by using hip hop lingo, in schtick and Bernie quoted from a Spike Lee movie, attempting Humor. Geraldo threatened to Spit on You, and he called you names Vile…So which is it KO, do you uphold and revere women or don’t you? You all don’t know how many times, I have come across the hip hop ocracy at MSNBC.

OK folks, a terrible wrong has been committed against our host. What should we do (as a group)? As it stands now, and as I understand it, Geraldo has stated that he would assault Michelle, Fox management remains silent, Michelle takes out ads to make her point, the ad stays up at Google but is taken down at FNC’s website.
I think we need direct our ire at FNC. I’m a firm believer that doodoo rolls downhill so I am going to try and contact Mr. K. Rupert Murdoch by email… what say you?
