The open-borders abuse of Saul Arellano
Update 9:15am Eastern: Watch this obnoxious video.
Illegal alien activists across the country will hold a “National Day of Action” today to show their solidarity with sanctuary symbol/deportation evader/document fraudster Elvira Arellano. Upon her recent deportation, she called on her open-borders mates to continue pushing for sabotage of our immigration laws. In Washington and elsewhere, the mob will declare “Todos Somos Elvira (We are all Elvira)” and demand a stop to cruel immigration raids that “separate families.”
Well, nothing the United States has ever done to illegal alien activist Elvira Arellano matches the cruelty and callousness of what she is doing to her own child. The Associated Press reports:
An 8-year-old boy has become a star attraction at pro-immigration events since his mother took refuge in a Chicago church before she was deported to Mexico.
Now, even some inside the immigration movement are questioning whether Saul Arellano is being exploited.
“It’s almost like an act of desperation on our part. Why is it that we need to depend upon a child?” said Armando Navarro, coordinator of the National Alliance for Human Rights, an umbrella organization for Hispanic groups in Southern California.
Saul’s mother, Elvira Arellano, was in the U.S. illegally for several years before taking sanctuary at Chicago’s Adalberto United Methodist Church, where she lived with her son for a year in defiance of a deportation order. She left the church last month to speak to other immigrants around the country and was arrested in Los Angeles by immigration authorities. They deported her to Tijuana, Mexico.
Hours after her arrest, Saul was brought to a news conference where supporters denounced her detention. He didn’t look into the cameras or even speak, instead hiding behind his godmother.
“I don’t want media,” he told his mother while visiting her a day later in Tijuana.
Yesterday, Saul Arellano was in Cleveland addressing illegal alien activists with his open-borders legal guardian. Word is that the little boy will be a star attraction today at the national amnesty rally in Washington, D.C.
Shouldn’t he be in school instead of being dragged around the country and paraded for the cameras?
Even more of Arellano’s open-borders allies are disgusted:
On Wednesday, advocates planned pro-immigrant demonstrations inspired by Saul’s mother in communities across the nation. The boy’s mother said Saul would be part of a vigil in Washington, D.C., or a rally in Tijuana. Anti-illegal immigrant groups have long accused Arellano and immigration activists of exploiting Saul in their pursuit of reform. The boy has zigzagged the country for the last year, appearing at rallies, on television programs and at meetings with lawmakers.
Many Hispanic activists and immigrants have also suggested that the boy should be allowed to live a normal childhood.
“Is it right to use a child … in political problems?” a person asked recently on http://www.hoyinternet.com, a Spanish-language news site. “Is it right for his own mother to use him this way?“
And it looks like even the open-borders media is getting queasy about Saul Arellano’s role. Note that this is an Associated Press reporter describing the scene:
At rallies and news conferences, Saul is usually more interested in playing handheld video games or running around than speaking to the reporters. Since his mother was arrested in front of him last month — which she said traumatized him — he appears even more reticent.
During a brief appearance in San Jose two days after the arrest, Saul seemed bewildered when he faced a wall of reporters bearing cameras and microphones. He stood quietly, his eyes scanning the crowd, as his godmother and the pastor of the Chicago church criticized immigration laws that separate families.
It is Elvira Arellano’s choice, and hers alone, to separate herself from her son. The gall of this law-breaking zealot does not cease to amaze.
Elvira Arellano is calling on people to pray today.
Pray for her abandoned son.

Open borders? After spending many thousands on the legal process including taking HIV tests, lung scans, a handful of immunizations, criminal background checks, proving my financial independence (no taking from the state for me!) and having to wait nearly two years to enter this fine country….a pox on those who think open borders can ever be good for this country!
Where are the checks? Where is the protection for the state and its people?
Actually, I think we should “demand a stop to cruel immigration raids that separate families.” When we deport the parents, deport the kids as well, even though they are US citizens by birth. If the kids want to come back when they reach 18, more power to them.
This crap just makes me fume!! When people who advocate breaking our laws demonstrate and protest, it’s time to deport ALL these people! Unless we get a conservative Republican president - like Mitt Romney - nothing will happen to stop this nonsense. Pres. Bush has show he’s for open borders and we know the democrats are for open borders. We need to make this a big ‘08 campaign issue!!!
It is, but even if we win the White House what do you think will happen? Not trying to be snippy, just curious.
The department of children services or protection, whatever they are in the area, should step in and indicate clearly that if this doesn’t stop the state will take custody of the boy. It’s not my favorite solution but this is action on their part is negatively affecting too many people. Apparently who ever has custody doesn’t mind exploited the boy.
why didn’t she take her son with her when she was deported?

There is at least one child who knows exactly what Saul is going through. That child is…..Suri Cruise.
Deport the brat.
Problem solved.
Did anybody see the movie Children of Men? Though it was a liberal left view I really like the first scene. It opens with cages on the streets of London that hold all illegal aliens that are to be deported when they are caught on the streets.
Good Idea. When we catch them on the streets put them in cages for immediate deportation.
Dont leave out the other child Katie Cruise.
Holy cow, Sausage. You better watch what you say and start toeing the open borders party line or else your liberal friends won’t speak to you at parties.
lol, pb. thanks for the am chuckle.
Elvira hasn’t named Saul’s father, but if he knows who he is, shame on him as well if he fails to step forward and care for his child.
Kid born out of wedlock, no father in his life, mother uses him as a prop and then abandons him. Any hope he can be adopted by a loving family?
Elvira had an anchor baby and it didn’t work out the way she thought it would…so she is using him again to garner sympathy? What is the definition of a Criminal? I thought it was someone who breaks the Law.
This Arellano woman is so pathetic. I’ve absolutely had it ten feet past the top of my head with all these racist la raza thugs and their ‘it’s all about me!’ tantrums.
And it’s not simply the unwashed adolescents pitching these bitch fits; it’s official, goverment sanctioned fighting words:
Lou Dobbs responded in a recent CNN Editorial; Mexican president’s blatant hypocrisy:
As for this Arellano woman’s sad excuse for personhood, I posted this over at hotair.com the other day:
#14 you’re so correct. I’ve said that before when she was deported and came back she had the kid on purpose and it backfired on her.
I have several questions concerning anchor babies whose parents are not U.S. citizens. Since the child is a citizen, do illegal parents get to claim and receive public assistance for them? I suspect the answer is yes. However, what if the parents are deported and the children remain in the United States? Do the parents get the benefits for the children?
First of all, what kind of mother choses to abandon her child?
And second, I am more than happy to send a bus pass to the little scrapper so he can be re-united with his mother.
#16
Anchor babies are NOT legal!!!!!!
The phrase “subject to the jurisdiction thereof” was intended to exclude from automatic citizenship American-born persons whose allegiance to the United States was not complete. In the case of illegal aliens who are temporarily or unlawfully in the United States, because their native country has a claim of allegiance on the child, the completeness of the allegiance to the United States is impaired and logically precludes automatic citizenship.
And yes they do receive public asst. Brownsville Tx is the busiest P.O. in the country after they have the anchor baby they go back to Mexico and cross illegally to pick up their checks for the kid…..
I read somewhere a while ago that one of these women who care for him now is his ‘legal guardian’.
If that is the case - and this person was given legal guardianship over him - how does that effect the mother’s relationship and custody issue?
Was it a misprint? Or is no one bothering to dig and find out?
It would be interesting to see if, in fact, the mother DID sign over legal custody to another party, and is still playing up the mother / child separation.
She was using the kid before inception.
She did have sanctuary in a church here for a year. Instead of spending money fighting deportation and holding press conferences, she could have started the process to obtain her citizenship in the United States.
And as for sanctuary in a church– you’re supposed to use that as a refuge from oppression. Was she really being oppressed because she refused to be an American citizen? At that point the ball is in her court. You can’t claim sanctuary from an oppressive authority if the law is reasonable. It would be like me going to Mexico and hiding in a Church because I refused to become a Mexican citizen but still wanted to live in the country. It’s a totally unreasonable action.
Always use children for political gain or not. Bleeding hearts always fall to the children (unless of course ‘abortion’ and the ‘right to choose’ is a factor). Doublr standards all around. That’s what you get when you become PC.
I do have liberal friends, that’s true… but I am no liberal. I’m conservative - just not a far right Bush loving supporter
Elvira concived Saul to stay in US. Saul was ELvira’s ‘Green Card lottery’, except, Saui’s numbers did not win :(.
Considering your demonstrated definition of “far right” is, in reality, slightly left of middle, that’s funny.
At least we can agree on two things…Bush is a disappointment and Open Borders supporters are dangerously ignorant.
“Todos Somos Elvira (We are all Elvira)”
Great. Then we should do the same thing to all of you that we did to her.
Maybe at this rally, Geraldo can hoist the tot up on his shoulders a la Tiny Tim and blubber away on the cameras about the cruelty of eville people like us who want to keep the poor lad from his mama! Waaah!
“We are NOT all Elvira, she can go to hell” is what I’d prefer to hear.
Whatever.
What is Blah Blah Blah in Spanish?
Oh! Caca?
They come here by the masses illegally and then gripe and bitch about it taking too long to get in so that is why they broke the law.
Well, perhaps if they didn’t come here illegally it wouldn’t be such a huge crapfest right now. Besides, how many people do you think are waiting from other contries that go about it legally - how is that fair to them.
BS, I’ll pray for you (this coming from a first generation united states citizen - my mother was an immigrant from South America) Get in line like everyone else. Like my family did. Pay the entry fee, get the glacoma tests, get a sponsor, get a job, and quit bitching about entitlements you obviously have not earned.
These people make me sick.
I’ll pray for you, yeh…riiight. (blood begining to boil)
What about those people from other contries trying to enter LEGALLY? Huh? where do they fit in? Her sense of entitlement is absolutely sickening!
Tell you what E, why don’t you apply for citizenship/entry LEGALLY, get a sponsor, take the glacoma tests, get a job lined up, get some english classes going etc etc etc (just like my family and mother had to do when they came here from South America) and quit your whinning.
The reason it takes so long is because people like you come over illegally and now the system is a big CRAPFEST.
I have no problem with legal immigrants, as long as they get in line just like everyone else. Jeeeshhh.
Did anyone notice that when you see coverage of Elvira on TV., she still has to use an interperter. Elvira spent how much time in an English speaking country, and never bothered to learn the Language..so no this isn’t someone who wants to be an American, this is a parasite, that wants to leach off the open US social system, she wants to “game” the US Govt. What is the amount of $$$ that gets sent back to Mexico from US? This isn’t an Immigrant Story, this is an Invasion Story.
And how come NO ONE in the MSM notes that if she was a citizen that did the same crime that she did, she would have been removed from her son anyway - she would be in federal prison, and her son would be with CPS.
Just because she was deported instead doesn’t change the facts. No victims here except Saul…by her mother’s actions.
A great number of very good comments. Just remember them when it comes time to vote…legally.
As each day passes, Tom Tancredo sounds just right for president 2009: http://www.teamtancredo.typepad.com
He wants his mother. Hate to say it, but it’s looking like she doesn’t want him.
Laws don’t separate families; they separate criminals from victims.
Elvira = criminal
Saul & U.S. = victims
So he was able to visit his mother in Tijuana, eh?
I guess Uncle Sam isn’t keeping the family separated after all.
What did she do, send him back to the US?
The more I think this thing through, the more disgusted I am with Elvira.
We got rid of one, at least temporarily.
I wish the media would keep track of how many illegals are entering each day and how many are being deported so we’d have a better idea of what the sneaky open borders people in Washington are up to. I’m afraid the battle may be lost already, however, as the anchor baby program continuously produces an exponentially rising number of Hispanic voters.
As the old Gypsy woman warned, “When the moon is full and the wolfbane blooms, Geraldo Rivera shall stalk the earth! Cackle, cackle, cackle.”
WE NEED MORE JUDGES LIKE THIS!
Immigrant: Judge told me to go home
By Rick Laney
© The Daily Times 2007
Anna Calixto went to court Friday seeking an order of protection from her husband, Fernando Calixto. Instead, she was told to go back to her native country of Nicaragua by Blount County Circuit Court Judge W. Dale Young, according to witnesses.
Anna Calixto and witnesses said the judge asked Fernando Calixto — who came to the United States from Mexico — if he was in the United States legally. The judge told him if he wasn’t here legally, he had “no rights in court.”
The judge then asked the same question of Anna Calixto.
“When the judge asked if I was here legally,” Anna Calixto said, “I told him I have my temporary worker permit and I have the documentation showing it from the immigration service.
“The judge shrugged his shoulders like he didn’t care — then he told me to go back to Nicaragua.
“I told him I have two children and asked what I was supposed to do about my children. The judge said there were Americans here in this country who could take care of my children.”
After the brief discussion, Young reportedly threw Anna Calixto’s request for an order of protection across his desk. Young’s secretary, Amanda Nolan, told The Daily Times Monday that the judge had dismissed Calixto’s request.
Numerous calls to Young’s office and home regarding the Calixto case were not returned.
Calixto moved to the United States from Nicaragua in 1994 to go to school and work. She and Fernando Calixto met in the United States and were later married. They have a U.S. marriage license issued by the state of Virginia, where they lived at the time.
The Calixtos’ children, a 9-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son, are U.S. citizens.
Nine months ago the couple separated, and in May Fernando Calixto filed for divorce. Anna Calixto said she wanted an order of protection because her husband has been harassing her, calling her and regularly showing up at her home trying to get visitation with their two children. Calixsto said her husband had also made unauthorized charges to her bank account with a debit card.
Hedy Weinberg, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) Tennessee, said the charges raised by Calixto are alarming. “We start with the premise that a judge is not an immigration officer,” Weinberg said. “The court is where people go to seek justice. To throw out a request for an order of protection based on ethnicity is just wrong.
“The allegations against this judge are serious — and he should be more concerned with justice than where someone was born.”
Weinberg said courts are required to treat everyone equally regardless of race, sex or ethnicity.
Alice Blevins has worked with Anna Calixto for the past three years in Blount County and accompanied Calixto to court on Friday. She said Calixto is a dependable, hardworking employee and has never had any trouble or problem at work.
“I know many Hispanic workers,” Blevins said, “and I always tell them about America. People have rights here — and I convey that to these workers. After what happened in that courtroom, I’m starting to think maybe I was wrong.”
Young is a lifelong Blount County resident and has been a Blount County Circuit Court Judge since 1984.
No transcript
According to Young’s office, there was no clerk or court reporter present during the Calixtos’ hearing and there is no transcript, recording or documentation of what was said.
Kathy Martin, the Blount County deputy clerk since 1999, said it is not uncommon in Blount County for a circuit judge to hear a case without a court reporter or clerk present. Martin said that while the requested order of protection had been dismissed by Young, the couple’s original divorce papers were still showing Tuesday afternoon as having no orders filed by the judge.
In Knox County, all domestic cases are heard by the 4th Circuit Court. Debbie Sewell, the supervisor of Knox County’s 4th Circuit Court for the past 31 years, said it is extremely rare in Knox County for a case to be heard with only a judge, attorneys and clients present.
“It would almost never happen here,” Sewell said. “If there’s no actual court reporter, we almost always have a clerk in the courtroom taking notes. That would be very unusual for us — our clerks almost always have documentation of what happens in the courtroom.”
Census data compiled by the Migration Policy Institute ranks Tennessee sixth in the nation for the fastest-growing immigrant population.
Between 1990 and 2000, Tennessee’s foreign-born population increased 169 percent. The Hispanic population in Tennessee grew by 278 percent (from 32,741 in 1990 to 123,838 in 2000), the fourth-highest rate of Hispanic growth in the nation.
“I left court on Friday feeling lonely and devastated,” Anna Calixto said. “I was crying — my husband was crying too. I felt totally humiliated.
“I just don’t know what I’m going to do if a judge won’t even look at my request. I wanted to talk to him more, but after the way he talked to me, I was afraid to say anything to him.
“If he’s a judge, I thought he was supposed to be fair and look after people. Even if I’m not American, I am still a human being.”

#42 - I saw this, but i am sure the emotions it envoked in me was quite different then that of the writer.
Way to go Judge!
She was here legally, she had the documents to prove it. The judge was therefore wrong.
Since she was here legally, the least the judge could have done was to throw her scumbag husband in jail.
#44 we don’t know if they were real. Illegal Aliens create false documentation all the time.
Deport this kid. She was ordered to be deported back in 1997. it is now 2007. the kid is 8 years old. Do the math…the kid was an intentional anchor baby
Two points:
1. Elvira stated today, on Fox News, from Tijuana, that WE are ignorant.
She stated that she had no opportunity to come here legally.
That is a blatant lie, and the reporter did not challenge her on it.
She came here to work; not to visit or go to school or to immigrate!
If she had been qualified (Mexican passport, criminal background and medcial check) she COULD have come here legally, via any of several ‘temporary worker’ visa programs.
If she was qualified but chose to enter illegally, why should we have sympathy for her?
If she was unqualified, and chose to come here anyway, to Hell with her.
2. The closest apartments and homes in San Ysidro, California are only a few blocks and mere minutes from the International Border crossing from Tijuana.
Saul, who IS considered a U.S. citizen could easily be housed with a guadian in San Ysidro; and able to visit his mother every day.
Indeed, he could essentially live with her in Tijuana; crossing the border each day to attend school in San Ysidro and returning to her each afternoon.
Use reality against her dishonest claims!
Today’s USA Today had a front page story about illegal immigrants / protests / boycotts:
http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2007-09-12-immigrants_N.htm
The first illegal talked about is from Milwaukee and makes $200.00 per day selling nutritional supplements.
$200.00 per day…. 5 days per week …. which equates to $52,000 per year.
Sorry to say, but that’s more than I make.
And this guy is doing a job that ‘American’s won’t do’ ??????
And then make it seem like a hardship if he skips a day of work ( his choice ) to go protest????
This is completely out of control.
Now that he’s been identified on the front page of a national newspaper, he should be picked up and deported tomorrow.
Mexico must be a hell hole for a mother to separate from her child. I wonder if Mexican citizens will ever try to make their country more like the united states.
