Jeremiah 29:11 and the immortal Marine

By Michelle Malkin  •  September 16, 2007 09:09 AM

Your Sunday meditation. Read the whole thing. Bring a box of Kleenex:

“An Unforgettable Reunion.”

“Ray feels this is a challenge but he can endure it,” Donna said. “I always tell him ‘Jeremiah 29:11.’ ”

She then quoted the Bible verse from memory:

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Beautiful story. A box of Kleenex is correct as it is very moving.

I have no doubt that Cpl. Raymond D. Hennagir will walk again. I am so glad he could be there to see his Marine family back home.

May God bless Ray, his fiancee, his family and his Marine family today and always.

How can people not believe the men and women who have boots on the ground that their mission is working in Iraq? As long as brave men like Ray tell me he believes in their mission I will continue to believe them and not the Code Pinkos and the likes of Reid, Pelosi, etc.

If you’d like to write our brave injured warriors at Walter Reed or Bethesda, here are the addresses I was given last Christmas (they could have changed):

    National Naval Medical Center
    Marine Corps Liaison Office
    8901 Rockville Pike
    Bethesda, MD 20889-5600
    Phone: 301-295-6111

    Red Cross
    WRAMC
    6900 Georgia Ave NW
    Heaton Pavillion
    3E05
    Washington, D.C. 20307

    Thanks, Michelle.

Thanks Cpl Hennagir you are a true American hero. He is a very fortunate young man to have so many people love and care for him. May he recover from his injuries and have a wonderful long life. We are truly blessed to have young men and women like this.

It’s good to be well and truly reminded of the sacrifice and of the debt we owe for that sacrifice, which keeps us safe and free.

The appreciation should stick with us in our everyday dealings, especially the political ones.

General George Patton insisted, “It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived.”

The more I hear about our great heroes, the more I love them.

This young Marine is typical of all Marines, Soldiers, Airmen, Sailors, and Coast Guardsmen. Their spirit is undeniable, their bravery is unparalleled, and their cause is unstoppgable.

God bless them ona and all. I am forever in their debt.

Here is the email I sent to Michael Vitez, the Enquirer reporter/writer:

    Dear Mr. Vitez,

You, sir, are also to be commended. “An Unforgettable Reunion” is, without a single doubt, the best-written and most thorough account of one of our most valiant heroes that I have yet to read. I come from a long line of journalists and other independent writers (I am one, myself), and so feel that I can offer competent praise for your work. This story bared for all to see the heartbreaking events that terrorists are imposing on free people in their barbaric ways, and you did so without becoming morose, truly bringing out the pride, the loyalty, and the patriotism of every reader. Ray and his family will always be in my prayers, but I also want you to know that you and your newspaper, The Philadelphia Enquirer, will also be in my prayers, in the hopes that you will never abandon our troops, our cause, and support for victory in this global conflict. I hope, too, that you and your paper will never abandon true journalistic standards. You have done our troops, our citizenry, and our country proud!

May God bless you and yours for all time!

    Sincerely,
    Lee Alley Provensal

Words fail. Oh my. What courage and endurance. Yes, America’s Best. And none of us deserve it. We are truly blessed. And don’t deserve it. Life-long thanks, Ray, to you and your family. And to all who have similarly sacrificed. And thanks to all above for heartwarming comments. Dittos to almeehan and leepro above especially, for your comments.

    What a HERO he is.

He makes me feel so very small and petty.

Just the fact that he survived is miraculous, but that I complain over all my ailments…..well, now I know to appreciate my life even more.

    I am humbled.

Just a couple of quick observations on this overwhelming story:

    * Amisdt the heartache there is a great, funny line:

It probably didn’t hurt that his battalion’s sergeant major, Steve Brown, traveled up from Camp Lejeune and in his most respectful and intimidating Marine Corps tone told a doctor:

“Now, we can do this the easy way or the hard way. You can give Cpl. Hennagir clearance to go, or we can just come up here and get him. One way or another, he’s going to be there.”

    * This is probably not the right time or place to say this, but a number jumped out at me and ticked me off badly: This brave man gets $3,500.00 a month plus social security. I cannot help but think that if we weren’t allowing liberals to feed, house and pay thousands of illegal aliens who have not done one damn thing for this country except work for their own selfish motivations, and hundreds of absurd quasi-socialist programs, some of which defy all reason or belief, this country might be able to afford to pay this brave man who gave so much $5,000.00 a month. Or more.

And that’s far, far and away a better use of the money.

#23 - You are so right! We could also take $$$ from former presidents’ pensions and let them hire their own body guards, congressional pay for not doing their jobs, etc. - the list boggles the mind. For showing only the anti-war bunch, I used e-mail addresses on Fox News web site to tell them their “fair and balanced”, “we report, you decide” was a crock of cranberries. The part I loved most is the Marine’s fiance saying she did not know there were so many kinds of napkins for the wedding/reception! What a couple…the greatest generation is here and now. It was very telling when this young Marine uttered his first words to the Corpman he called over… he did not ask if he, himself, were going to live. The first thing he wanted to know is if the other Marine who was near him was alright.

That is a man who understands duty, honor and Country. That is a man who understands what it is to love his neighbor as himself. I pray that he and his lovely fiancee have an incredible wedding, and a wonderful life together. They both have certainly earned their time of peace!!
