It was very telling when this young Marine uttered his first words to the Corpman he called over... he did not ask if he, himself, were going to live. The first thing he wanted to know is if the other Marine who was near him was alright.

That is a man who understands duty, honor and Country. That is a man who understands what it is to love his neighbor as himself. I pray that he and his lovely fiancee have an incredible wedding, and a wonderful life together. They both have certainly earned their time of peace!!

What an inspiration! Whether you are for or against the war, we must not forget that every solider coming home injured shares a similar story and deserves a similar outpouring of support.

#23 - You are so right! We could also take $$$ from former presidents' pensions and let them hire their own body guards, congressional pay for not doing their jobs, etc. - the list boggles the mind. For showing only the anti-war bunch, I used e-mail addresses on Fox News web site to tell them their "fair and balanced", "we report, you decide" was a crock of cranberries. The part I loved most is the Marine's fiance saying she did not know there were so many kinds of napkins for the wedding/reception! What a couple...the greatest generation is here and now.
Just a couple of quick observations on this overwhelming story:

* Amisdt the heartache there is a great, funny line:

<blockquote>It probably didn't hurt that his battalion's sergeant major, Steve Brown, traveled up from Camp Lejeune and in his most respectful and intimidating Marine Corps tone told a doctor:

"Now, we can do this the easy way or the hard way. You can give Cpl. Hennagir clearance to go, or we can just come up here and get him. One way or another, he's going to be there."</blockquote>

* This is probably not the right time or place to say this, but a number jumped out at me and ticked me off badly: This brave man gets $3,500.00 a month plus social security. I cannot help but think that if we weren't allowing liberals to feed, house and pay thousands of illegal aliens who have not done one damn thing for this country except work for their own selfish motivations, and hundreds of absurd quasi-socialist programs, some of which defy all reason or belief, this country might be able to afford to pay this brave man who gave so much $5,000.00 a month. Or more.

And that's far, far and away a better use of the money.

Ditto: tears
Add: heartache
Add: painful yet proud
God Bless You Cpl. Raymond D. Hennagir and THANK YOU beyond words.
.
Great family too, both of them, mom and dad and the Marines.
.
.
May God bless you with everything I've ever prayed for and dreamed of for myself and my family become yours, in reality.
As I do believe this: <em>“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”</em>

What a HERO he is.

He makes me feel so very small and petty.

Just the fact that he survived is miraculous, but that I complain over all my ailments.....well, now I know to appreciate my life even more.

I am humbled.

Words fail. Oh my. What courage and endurance. Yes, America's Best. And none of us deserve it. We are truly blessed. And don't deserve it. Life-long thanks, Ray, to you and your family. And to all who have similarly sacrificed. And thanks to all above for heartwarming comments. Dittos to almeehan and leepro above especially, for your comments.

Here is the email I sent to Michael Vitez, the Enquirer reporter/writer:

<blockquote>Dear Mr. Vitez,

You, sir, are also to be commended. “An Unforgettable Reunion” is, without a single doubt, the best-written and most thorough account of one of our most valiant heroes that I have yet to read. I come from a long line of journalists and other independent writers (I am one, myself), and so feel that I can offer competent praise for your work. This story bared for all to see the heartbreaking events that terrorists are imposing on free people in their barbaric ways, and you did so without becoming morose, truly bringing out the pride, the loyalty, and the patriotism of every reader. Ray and his family will always be in my prayers, but I also want you to know that you and your newspaper, <em>The Philadelphia Enquirer</em>, will also be in my prayers, in the hopes that you will never abandon our troops, our cause, and support for victory in this global conflict. I hope, too, that you and your paper will never abandon true journalistic standards. You have done our troops, our citizenry, and our country proud!

May God bless you and yours for all time!

Sincerely,
Lee Alley Provensal</blockquote>

God bless you Michelle for your work in honoring these young people and their sacrifice. Thank you for your bravery by putting yourself on the line there in Wash DC this weekend with some very ugly and dangerous enemies of the USA. And God bless this young man and family.
