Dearbornistan government at work: Covering up for the AK-47 jihadi suspect

By Michelle Malkin  •  September 17, 2007 03:32 PM

They don’t call it Dearbornistan for nothing. From the Press and Guide:

On Tuesday, a nation honored those whose lives were lost during the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001. But four days prior to the anniversary of the deadly terrorist attacks, a Wayne State medical student had city officials hoping that the event would not be marred by more bloodshed.

Houssein Zorkot, 26, was arrested Sept. 8 after he was observed wielding an AK-47 semi-automatic assault rifle in Hemlock Park, a popular destination for many Dearborn residents.

Zorkot, who is of Lebanese descent, was arraigned Tuesday in 19th District Court — the same day city officials sent out a press release about an event that had happened four days prior, and one day after the Press & Guide had contacted city officials seeking comment.

According to Dearborn Mayor “Jack” O“Reilly, Jr., the release of information about the case was delayed until after Zarkot’s arraignment and late in the day that marked the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. City officials feared that announcing the arrest of an armed Arabic man so close to anniversary of the attack would stir anti-Muslim sentiments and fan the flames of terrorism.

”We didn’t want this to become more than it is,“ O’Reilly said. ”There are certain things that the media latches onto, and this would have turned into a story about terrorism. That’s not the kind of tone we want to set.”

Charles Johnson calls it “really bad craziness.” Yep.

And there’s a bigger picture here. Can you spell politically correct pay-offs?

The New Age Citizen notes a recent infusion of Muslim special interest money into Dearborn’s coffers:

The dream of American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee- (ADC) Regional Director Imad Hamad for an American-Arab Center for Civil and Human Rights (ACCHR) took on a much more visible form Wednesday.

Well-wishers gathered at the future site of the facility on Chase between Ford Road and Warren Avenue to recognize the many people involved in bringing it to this point — the planners, the backers, the encouragers and those involved who assisted in surmounting paperwork hurdles.

Announced last month, the two-story, 20,000-square-foot facility will be the first of its kind in the world, according to Hamad. He said the $5 million facility is being created in the name of the common good and will be an education and resource center on civil and human rights. Work is expected to start in about two months and it should be completed late next year. “It will complement the many good programs already existing in Dearborn,” Hamad said. “It is to serve the community and emphasize the true American values.”

Former U.S. Congresswoman Mary Rose Okar — president of the national ADC committee — said the work of those at the center will protect the rights of all Americans. “We serve everybody,” Okar said. “When you protect the rights of your own, you protect the rights of everyone.” She said the Dearborn ADC office is the largest regional office for the group in the country.

Mayor Jack O’Reilly was on hand to welcome what he called a new community asset and pledged support for its growth. He joked that the experience of getting the permits and plan approvals through the city’s Department of Building and Safety had taught Hamad a new sense of patience.

Wayne County Chief Executive Robert Ficano welcomed the center “to the most diverse county in America.” Noting that American democracy is just 200 years old and a work in progress, he said the work of the center would help “protect our freedoms, our people and our democracy.”

But a major part of the program was to thank the prime minister and wife of the emir of Qatar who donated $1.5 million to the project.

Ace:

What a strange world. Members of an Unnamed Religion Prone To Violent Extremism routinely butcher and murder members of other religions (and insufficiently devout members of their own), and it’s the sensitivities of this Unnamed Religion Prone To Violent Extremism we’re supposed to devote so many of our brain-hours to appeasing.

You have GOT to be kidding me…..

    “..fan the flames of terrorism”????

What do you call a Hezbollah-loving man of Arab descent walking around with an AK-47 through a city park?

And it’s OUR fault if we look at it realistically?

These same blowhards think that the Iraq government should be efficient today. This is the kind of talk that just burns my rear. Our nation is just a little over 200 years old and “a work in progress” (and going backwards from what our founders envisioned – IMHO).

Our instant society wants Iraq to be complete now. Complete government, complete peace, full cooperation…

I blame fast food. People just want everything like a whopper – on demand and the way they want it.

On topic – the sell out of the America is just going to catch up with us one day.

French foreign minister warns of war over Iranian nukes

Submitted by cpowell on 05:38PM ET Sunday, September 16, 2007.

    Section: Daily Dispatches

    From Agence France-Presse

    Sunday, September 16, 2007
    http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20070916/wl_afp/franceirannuclear_0709161936...
PARIS — The world should brace for a possible war over the Iranian nuclear crisis, but seeking a solution through talks should take priority, French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said on Sunday.
“We have to prepare for the worst, and the worst is war,” he said in an interview broadcast on French television and radio.
“We must negotiate right to the end,” with Iran, he said, but underlined that if Tehran possessed an atomic weapon, it would represent “a real danger for the whole world.”
Calling the nuclear standoff “the greatest crisis” of present times, the minister said: “We will not accept that the bomb is manufactured,” and hinted that military plans were on the way.
“We are trying to put in place plans which are the privilege of chiefs of staff and that is not for tomorrow,” he said but stressed that although any attack on Iran was far from taking place, “It is normal for us to plan” for any eventuality.
In Washington, US Defense Secretary Robert Gates took a more muted approach on Sunday.
“I will tell you that I think the administration believes at this point that continuing to try and deal with the Iranian threat … through diplomatic and economic means is by far the preferable approach,” he said.
Kouchner meanwhile said France wanted the European Union to prepare sanctions against Iran, outside the ambit of the UN Security Council, to force Tehran to forsake its nuclear ambitions.
“We have decided that while negotiations are continuing … to prepare eventual sanctions outside the ambit of UN sanctions. Our good friends, the Germans, suggested that,” he said.
The foreign minister also said leading French companies such as Total and Gaz de France had been urged not to undertake new work or contracts in Iran.
Tehran vehemently denies Western allegations it is seeking an atomic weapon, saying its nuclear drive is aimed at providing electricity for a growing population whose fossil fuels will one day run out.
The five permanent Security Council members — Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States — plus Germany are due to meet to discuss a new draft UN resolution on sanctions against Iran on September 21 in Washington.
In the free-wheeling interview, Kouchner also touched upon the criteria for new members aspiring to join the European Union such as Turkey, saying French President Nicolas Sarkozy favoured the scrapping of a mandatory referendum on future adhesions.
“I do not fear revealing this secret. I think the president wants this as well,” he said.
France has put the brakes on Turkey’s membership talks but Sarkozy has said he would not block the discussions if a group of “wise men” was established by 2009 to debate the goals and ambitions of the EU over the next two decades.
Turkey began EU accession negotiations in October 2005 but it has only managed to open four of the 35 chapters, or policy areas, that all candidates must complete to join.
Croatia, which began talks the same day, has opened 12.
Turkey’s talks are expected to last at least a decade, with no guarantee of membership at the end of it all. The process has been hampered by Ankara’s refusal to open its ports and airports to Greek Cypriot ships and planes.

More than what it is? So it has already been defined as *something*? What is the *something*? A dedicated, verifiable Hezbollite armed with an automatic rifle in a city park is not about terrorism?

This Mayor should be investigated on intent to conspire and commit terrorism.

These are not neutral statements made about this piece of human offal who was captured and arrested.

Make the Mayor take a stand, no matter how many millions he gets from a sleazy Qatar. This Mayor is way out of his pay grade on this- it should become a federal case, with his mouth being welded shut.

    What a puke.

(It’s like when you get a bunch of liberals together; there’s gonna be some totalitarian fascists in the crowd.)

Isn’t it odd that ALL Christians are universally tarred with the brush of extremism because a couple of whackjobs shot abortionists or bombed clinics - totally unacceptable behavior, mind you - but there is no amount of terrorism, violence and mayhem that will trigger opprobrium against Dubya and Condi’s “Religion of Peace and Love.”

To quote a much earlier story from Michelle:

    “A kakistocracy

To answer why they don’t fear us:

Their actions in life provide them the wealth of their Heaven. Jihadis truly believe that the killing of non-Muslims under the claim of defending their faith earns them an honored spot with Allah. Knowing that, what do they have to fear, even in death?

    My question is:

When is it that those in leadership (this mayor, “surrender” Democrats, or Dennis Kucinich) will learn that these people and this mentality have absolutely no intention to negotiate nor surrender?

Here is yet another example of a man who has sworn himself openly to a cause that wants to kill all those that do not follow faithfully. He has shown with his word, and now his actions, his true intent. So why is it that we still want to give him the “benefit of the doubt” and declare that his intention and actions were not to harm other citizens of this country?

This is a truly perverse action that can only lead one to believe that we now have a government, at all levels consisting only of the weakest and most corrupt minds. Hence, the answer at the top of this post.

And to Michelle’s point about the center just built in Dearborn (posted earlier by another from this site):

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the Public Treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits from the Public Treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy always followed by dictatorship.”
