    Calif has gone from being Reagan Red to deep blue specifically because of the past amnesties, imho. This is the long-term danger of these amnesties.

    I know some people who are former illegals & current US citizens who refer to those here illegally as ‘their people’. They don’t consider me one of ‘their people’ even though we’re citizens of the same country & of the same ethnic background. They only regard their fellow illegals & amnesty supporters as being ‘their people’.

    So, Clinton was definitely bad on this issue, he just wasn’t as stunningly bad as GWB.

    Harkin will vote with the wind. He is still worth calling. Last time he voted against amnesty when he saw the wind shift.

    See my post #17. I agree w/you that Clinton was terrible on immigration. The one area where he was better than GWB was workplace enforcement, but he likely only did that to appease the labor unions.

    If you remember, Hutchison two weeks ago started formulating legislation that would forbid TXDOT from trying to toll already existing roads. Cornyn latched on immediately. What TXDOT tried to sneak through was unconscionable. Wanting to buy back from the fed the roads we already paid for to toll them. Many here feel that that was the last straw for TXDOT’s existence. They could be dismantled and replaced for their gross mismanagement.

    The good thing about all this is that it is a HUGE setback for the development and construction of the Trans Texas Corridor. But of course, it ain’t over till it’s over. Lots of fighting ahead of us.

    I’ll call/fax Cornyn and Hutchinson today.
