Another anti-Syrian Lebanese Christian leader assassinated

By Michelle Malkin  •  September 19, 2007 12:35 PM

Jim Hoft’s got a round-up. Stand by for more…

Wire report:

A bomb rocked a Christian suburb east of the Lebanese capital Wednesday, killing an anti-Syrian lawmaker and six other people, security officials said.

Antoine Ghanem is the eighth prominent anti-Syrian figure assassinated since 2005.

Ghanem, 64, a member of the right-wing Christian Phalange Party, was targeted by the bomb, said the officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media.

The Voice of Lebanon radio station, which is owned by the Phalange party, confirmed Ghanem’s death. The identities of the others killed were not immediately known.

The attack came six days before parliament was scheduled to meet to elect a new president in a vote expected to be deeply divisive.

Three of the slain lawmakers have been from the U.S.-backed majority coalition, reducing its margin in parliament.

I also find it interesting that the news released yesterday information on a Syrian SCUD that blew up with chemical weapons on-board, killing the Syrian and Iranian military crews attempting to deploy the new warhead.

Is this the response they are planning?

I would rather our Government do something to punish Syria and Iran for their interference in the security of post-invasion Iraq. With yesterday’s statements by Iran that they have target 600 missiles on US forces in Iraq what the heck is Bush waiting for? It is time to finish the war Iran declared on the US on 4 Nov 79 when they first broke international law and seized our embassy. Pinpoint attacks using conventional munitions could destroy the political leadership and degrade their military capabilities in less then 72 hours to allow the oppressed masses of both countries to rise up against their dictators and decide their countries future.

It is time to protect our forces in Iraq. Cry Havoc and let slip the dogs of war!

What will it take for the west to realize that Syria and Iran need to be reined in….Syria has been killing anyone who resists their heavy handed actions in Lebanon. Iran has been killing American servicement for years in Iraq. As an ex-military man, and now a defense contractor, I know we have a lot of munitions sitting just waiting to be used. We don’t need to send in one soldier…just launch/bomb a few hundred targets….the only thing those people understand is power. Drop a little power on them and they’ll be too busy rebuilding to keep up these shenanigans..

The Iranians and Syrians have purchased very similar air-defense radar systems from Russia. The Isrealis managed to penetrate that defensive net with non-stealthy IAF F-15I aircraft.

Just a quick question. My recollection is that, after the last anti-Syrian MP was blown up, it left the balance of power in the Lebanese Parliament on a knife’s edge. The Hezbollah representatives and their sympathizers, were very close to being able to take over the Cabinet. It was for that reason that (a) many thought that the anti-Syrian MP’s were being murdered (a sort of slow coup using murder in synch with the Lebanese constitution) and (b) a lot of lebanese MP’s left the country.

Can anyone say what this latest killing does to the balance of power in the Parliament and Cabinet?

We should have our weapons continually trained on Ach-medininijihad and the mullahs, and the instant they come into our sights, we should eliminate them from the earth, much like we would eliminate cancer from someone’s body.

Get this statement from the whackiest genocidal regime on the block:

    Iranian: Retaliation if Israel Attacks

By ALI AKBAR DAREINI – 1 hour ago

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — The deputy commander of Iran’s air force said Wednesday that plans have been drawn up to bomb Israel if the Jewish state attacks Iran, according to the semiofficial Fars news agency.

“We have drawn up a plan to strike back at Israel with our bombers if this regime (Israel) makes a silly mistake,” Gen. Mohammad Alavi was quoted as telling Fars in an interview.

Fars confirmed the quotes when contacted by The Associated Press, but would not provide a tape of the interview. The Iranian air force had no immediate comment.

Defense Minister Mostafa Mohammed Najjar told the official IRNA news agency Wednesday that “we keep various options open to respond to threats. … We will make use of them if required.”

Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards released a statement that the nation was ready for a military confrontation.

“Iran, having passed through crises … has prepared its people for a possible confrontation against any aggression,” IRNA quoted the statement as saying.

White House press secretary Dana Perino called Alavi’s comment “unhelpful.”

“It is not constructive and it almost seems provocative,” she said. “Israel doesn’t seek a war with its neighbors. And we all are seeking, under the U.N. Security Council resolutions, for Iran to comply with its obligations.”

Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Mark Regev said, “Unfortunately we are all too accustomed to this kind of bellicose, extremist and hateful language coming from Iran.”

“We take the threat very seriously and so does the international community,” he added.

Of course, Jesus died for their sins as well as for ours, and so if they will stop sinning and acknowledge Jesus as Lord, He is merciful enough to forgive them.

While they are here on this earth, we will have to deal with them ourselves. This is from the link above, what HELLFIRE means to our military:

HELLFIRE is an air-to-ground missile system designed to defeat tanks and other individual targets while minimizing the exposure of the launch vehicle to enemy fire. HELLFIRE uses laser guidance and is designed to accept other guidance packages. It is used on helicopters against heavily armored vehicles at longer standoff distances than any other Army missiles now in the inventory. The HELLFIRE II is the optimized version of the laser family of HELLFIRE missiles. The Longbow HELLFIRE Modular Missile System is an air-launched, radar aided, inertially guided missile that utilizes millimeter wave radar technology.

Current launch platforms include the AH-64 APACHE helicopter and the Navy AH-1W. The system is also qualified for use on the UH-60 BLACKHAWK, and has been tested for use on the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) and the Improved TOW Vehicle (ITV). Prime contractors for the system are Rockwell International Corporation and Martin Marietta Corporation. The cost per missile is about $58,000. Sweden uses the HELLFIRE for coastal defense, and both Israel and Egypt have purchased the system.

The irony of the name of this weapon system is quite delicious. It’s got quite a tally of jihadi kills already, and as the Doritos commercial used to say, Keep crunchin’, we’ll make more!

I would like nothing better then to see Iran get nailed to the wall. I had a lot to do with the set-up prior to Desert 1 (rescue attempt during Iranian hostage crisis) and not sure what I can talk about from the operational end to this day. Too many people got their fingers into the pie and made a simply plan way too complex and forgot to tell the operators what the mission was going in, but the upside we learned a lot from the failure. Kind of always stuck in my craw not being able to pull it off.

I think we could probably knock them out sooner than 72 hours, just trying to get back in a mission planning mindset (always plan conservatively to protect your forces going in). Also was a mission planner for the KC-10 support of the 2 F-117s that dropped their munitions during “Operation Just Cause.” One of the last operational missions I was able to participate in when I was medically disqualified for flight duty. I kind of miss those days a lot.

I’ve learned about that fiasco in the desert recently. It was totally FUBARed from the getgo. I bet that was hard for you guys when it went up in flames like that. Our people were being held by barbarians, and we should have got them back by force. Jimmah the Peanut Humanitarian screwed up everything during the whole hostage crisis, and I just hate that we lost some of our best operators in that disaster.

However, the military did learn from it, and now we’ve got some real serious gear in Special Operations Command that could do that mission today, probably with less manpower.

If there were to be strikes against Iran, there might be SOF guys on the ground with lasers on target to ensure very precise hits, given the importance of that mission. Somebody has planned it all out by now, deep in the Pentagon.

My road, if I ran the world: 25,000 sorties over Damascus- and let Iran watch. Destroy all of the Presidential Palaces. Destroy all government buildings and military training facilities. Wipe out all of the commercial transportation hubs. Decimate the airport in Damascus and every road, rail, and donkey path in or out of there. Eliminate all insurgent strongholds on the Syrian border with Iraq- and take out all of Syrias tanks. Let Israel hit them on and around the Golan Heights.

She was an Admin Specialist in the U-2 squadron at Beale AFB when we met and can’t believe she traded down to a Boom Operator when she actually had a shot at couple of the U-2 pilots that were head over heels with her also. She had a way of being able to deal very well when I was off in harms way. She told me she would only get upset if the Wing Commander and Chaplin showed up at the door and then I was in big trouble for getting myself killed. Such a great woman I managed to stay faithful to her for 25 years of marriage now. That’s saying a lot when looking at the behavior of some of the guys I flew with. Where did you ever get your numbers? You aren’t serious, are you?

Perhaps instead of reading leftist propaganda pages as rote truth, you should take the time to actually investigate your facts. Especially with this wonderful tool called the internet

100,000 casualties?!? You do realize that is almost 60% of the current fighting force, right? And that number is roughly 4 times the total American casualties listed in the Dole-Shalala report, with almost 80% of those returning to battle with 72 hours. And that contradicts the TOTAL number of air evacs that left the theater of battle, which currently numbers just below 11,000.

And $3-4 trillion? Are you factoring in all the care for all beneficiaries, and the costs of the multitude of efforts to upgrade Federal Health Care Technologies? Please prove your numbers.

Or maybe you could tell me, in your opinion, what cause would be worth fighting for?

Do you really want to give up your freedom of speech, choice and religion? How about drugs, alcohol, and sex? Shall we repeal the freedoms we endowed to women? Or how about your rights to vote, have a job, own property, choose your living, get an education, have pets, eat what you want to eat, live without slavery or indentured servitude, listen to music, watch TV, go to a movie or a play, not starve, or even live?

Because that is what the jihadists are willing to take away. You want Islam? Look at history (Iran hangs youths for having sex, and wearing tight clothes; Afghanistan under the Taliban banned music, took away books, banned women from speaking, education, or even showing themselves unaccompanied in public) before you ask so willingly to give up you freedoms again.
