Time to organize an Ahmadinejad welcoming party?

Update 9:30pm Eastern 9/20. Dogging Mahmoud, via WCBS:

For some people, the thought of the Iranian President going to ground zero wasn’t just controversial, it was a personal insult. Roman Kent is a holocaust survivor. Jim Riches’ son, a firefighter, was killed on 9/11. “We feel what happened at 9/11or in the concentration camps all days of our life it does not leave me for a day,” Kent said. On Thursday, CBS 2 HD followed both men as they tried to get someone from the Iranian Mission to the United Nations to talk to them about President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s visit. At the building’s front desk, the men were told by an official, “I’ve given the info to the Iranian Mission and they’ll call you in a few moments.” Someone from the mission called back, saying she would try to set up an appointment.

“They told me they would call me back,” Riches said.

Still waiting.

Update: 7:35pm Eastern 9/20. Columbia goes back and forth and back and forth on whether to cancel the Iranian nutjob’s appearance. Get me a Dramamine.

Update 5:20pm Eastern 9/20. The nutjob tells his friends at 60 Minutes that he is shocked, shocked at the uproar over his now-shelved Ground Zero visit.

Update 3:55pm Eastern 9/20. Audio – McCain speaks, says the Iranian nutjob should be “physically restrained” from visiting Ground Zero.

Update 3:20pm Eastern 9/20. Ken Timmerman sends word that his organization, Foundation for Democracy in Iran, is organizing with David Bossie of Citizens United, to counter-protest at Ground Zero. They are chartering buses from Washington, D.C.:

Dear Friends of Freedom,

The Foundation for Democracy in Iran, in coordination with Citizens United and other groups, is calling on all Americans, regardless of their origin or political believes to come to New York on Monday to defend Ground Zero from desecration by the terrorist president of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

We will be chartering buses from the Washington, DC area. Please watch our website, www.iran.org, for more details and for rendezvous points.

Update 2:45pm Eastern 9/20. Columbia U. urged to cancel Ahmadinejad speech.

Columbia University was urged on Thursday to withdraw a speaking invitation to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who will be in New York for the United Nations General Assembly.

New York City Council speaker Christine Quinn wrote to the university urging them to cancel Ahmadinejad’s planned speech

on Monday, which is part of Columbia’s World Leaders Forum. “Ahmadinejad is a Holocaust denier,” she wrote.

On Wednesday New York police said Ahmadinejad, who has called for Israel to be wiped off the map, had been denied a request to visit the World Trade Center site of the September 11 attacks during his visit.

Quinn said universities should be a forum for a healthy exchange of differing ideas, but that there were limits.

Update 11:50am Eastern 9/20. A reader tips me to Columbia University students organizing a counter-protest over at this Facebook page. 200 of them and counting.

Update 10:50am Eastern 9/20. Michael Ledeen blasts our self-delusion about the Iranian regime and awards Columbia U. “the Chamberlain Award for Exceptional Appeasement.”

Update 5:50am Eastern 9/20. New Yorker Pamela at Atlas Shrugs is rallying and puts out a call to readers to join her across from the U.N. next Monday:

Join the National Rally to End the Threat Now Monday, September 24
12:00 noon, rain or shine
Dag Hammarskjold Plaza
2nd Avenue at 47th Street
(across from the United Nations) New York City

Are you coming?

Sgt. Tim Sumner, 9/11 family member and blogger, e-mails that he has asked his congressman if he’ll join him in protesting Ahmadinejad: “I have a direct contact to my Congressman, Bill Shuster, and I just emailed him asking him that if Mahmoud Ahmadinejad comes to Ground Zero, that I’d like him to be there with me blocking the way. I think every Senator and Representative ought to be asked to state they will stand in his way as well.”

More: Take your wreath and shove it, Mahmoud.

The NYPost: “Mahmoud Ahmadinejad shouldn’t be received with respect anywhere in New York City. The notion of him standing at Ground Zero simply is repulsive.”

The terror kowtowers at Columbia University disagree. Why anyone would consider sending their kid there is beyond me.

***

Despite the NYPD’s rejection, the Iranian nutjob still plans to visit Ground Zero. And he’ll have Secret Service protection! WABC reports:

Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad requested to visit Ground Zero during an upcoming trip to New York. That request was rejected Wednesday. But a source tells Eyewitness News that the decision may not stop him.

A law enforcement source says the Iranian mission to the United Nations has informed the Secret Service that the Iranian president intends to visit Ground Zero Monday at 10 a.m.

The source says regardless of the NYPD’s rejection of the request for a Ground Zero tour, Iran’s president and his entourage will be accompanied by a Secret Service protective detail, a detail provided to all heads of state when they visit the United States.

Anyone in NYC know how to apply for a permit to organize a counter-protest to defend Ground Zero? Is it too late?

Looks like a job for a freedom/anti-jihad coalition. Shout out to the Eagles, Jewish groups, the Free Muslims Coalition, 9/11 Families, the United America Commitee, American Congress For Truth, and more.

Anyone else interested/involved in such an effort, let us know.

***

Reader S.M. e-mails: “I say the hell with permits … Lower Manhattan should empty out about 9:00am and surround the WTC site about 20 people deep. Let’s see the Secret Service try to ‘make a hole’ for this POS.”

***

Via 9/11 family member Sgt. Tim Sumner, Mark Levin and Debra Burlingame, now working on Divest Terror, weigh in on the nutjob’s itinerary.

Ahmadinejad, is a lousy guy, but if he isn’t president of Iran do we get to replace him with someone we like, and who’ll be friendly with Israel? Saddam was a tyrant, but after a massive commitment from the U.S. in Iraq we have who? Muqtada al-Sadr?

We want the Iranians to back down from their nuclear ambitions; a confrontation too humiliating can further polarize. Protesting the guy’s idiotic statements is great, but staying away from things that create b-roll for Al Jazeera is a good idea too.

I do salute Sergeant Tim’s approach.

Tenet’s involvement was significant. American intelligence and State Department officials have told me that by early 2002 Syria had emerged as one of the C.I.A.’s most effective intelligence allies in the fight against Al Qaeda, providing an outpouring of information that came to an end only with the invasion of Iraq. (A number of the details of the raid and the intelligence relationship were reported by U.P.I. on July 16th.) Tenet had become one of Syria’s champions in the interagency debate over how to deal with its government.

How Neo-Cons Sabotaged Iran’s Help on al Qaeda
    by Gareth Porter

WASHINGTON – After the Sep. 11 attacks, U.S. officials responsible for preparing for war in Afghanistan needed Iran’s help to unseat the Taliban and establish a stable government in Kabul. Iran had organised resistance by the “Northern Alliance” and had provided arms and funding, at a time when the United States had been unwilling to do so.

“The Iranians had real contacts with important players in Afghanistan and were prepared to use their influence in constructive ways in coordination with the United States,” recalls Flynt Leverett, then senior director for Middle East affairs in the National Security Council (NSC), in an interview with IPS.

I’m no longer in the NYC area nor can I make it there on such short notice, nor have I ever protested anything, but on this one occasion I’d be there for sure if I possibly could (and maybe can). I lost friends in 9/11, and know a couple of others who almost died from the toxic dust (no joke – brother in law almost died from a thyroid condition it caused). For that America hater to gloat on the graves of the unfound victims is to spit on the memories of every soul who died on that day. Horribly, my expectation is worse than any posed so far – I actually fear that he’s enough of a malicious meglomaniac that he’ll make some remark along the lines of honoring the “heroes” who flew the planes into the towers.

And speaking of spitting, Michelle, say “Hi” when you see Gerry Rivers in NYC for us all, and be sure to tell him that Mr Conservative Cat thinks he’s an arrogant, obnoxious dolt.

I won’t be in New York City for NutJob’s visit. Godspeed to all who go on our behalf.

What I pledge to do is pray. It is what we do here, everyday in the deepest ways. There are elders here who have made the same pledge to protect our men and women under arms from this evil jihad.

Now, we will intensify our commitment- it is something we do to protect our families and our communities.

Our elders are strong in their prayers and bring an intention to this responsibility that makes a difference.

I say these things not to honor myself or my family. I say this to you all because we must get closer to our own Truth when confronted with Evil- to get it behind us.

    We will prevail Together.

    God Bless Michelle Malkin.

    Ms. Malkin,

I can contact Jewish groups, but with Yom Kippur approaching, time is of the essence.

http://www.chabad.com is a place to start. In addition to Chabad, Hillel is a good source, as are the Simon Wiesenthal Center and the Anti-Defamation League.

I know people at the University of Judaism, perhaps they can help.

I am glad I checked this site before bed. It just does not stop. Hopefully my lunch break tomorrow will allow for me to help. I will do what I can.

    Bloomberg Worst Than Chamberlain

Bloomberg is supposed to know better in light of history, but he’s still infected by the liberal affliction Chamberlain had; the belief that SOME good lies in the core of all men which can be cultivated like flowers to turn devils from their evil ways. In this case, Bloomberg, a nanny-state idealist with kindergarten morals and whose true God is money, swears sheer capitalism will covert Ahmadinejad into a “reasonable peaceful man.” A fanatic who will happily slip nuclear weapons under the table to terrorists to do his bidding without “fingerprints” tracing him back. Notice how Russia and Germany are cozying up to Iran to get themselves off a nuclear terrorist target list, and more to follow.

Bloomberg might be a financial whiz but he is as streetwise as a baby in a battlefield. Ahmadinejad is grinning his ass off before the awed Islamic world by paying a wolf’s visit to the groveling lamb’s pasture before his minions one day return to aptly reward our sheer stupidity for recognizing him as a Man.

My God, who in government is REALLY protecting our families???
