al Qaeda to declare war on Musharraf
The audio-visual production team at al Qaeda Central is working overtime:
Osama bin Laden will release a new message soon declaring war on Pakistani President Gen. Pervez Musharraf, al-Qaida announced Thursday.
The announcement of the upcoming message came as al-Qaida released a new video in which bin Laden’s deputy, Ayman al-Zawahri, boasted that the United States was being defeated in Afghanistan, Iraq and other fronts.
Speakers in the video promised more fighting in Afghanistan, North Africa and Sudan’s Darfur region.
The messages are part of a stepped-up propaganda campaign by al-Qaida around the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks against the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Earlier this month, bin Laden released two messages — including his first new appearance in a video in nearly three years.
A banner posted on an Islamic militant Web site on Thursday advertised that another message would be released, though it did not say whether bin Laden would appear in video or speak in an audiotape.
“Soon, God willing: ‘Come to Jihad (holy war)’, from sheik Osama bin Laden, God protect him” the banner read.
Laura Mansfield’s got the Zawahiri vid. It’s more than an hour long. She writes:
The documentary style video begins with the voice of Mohamed Atta shortly after hijacking the plane that would fly into the World Trade Center, and includes clips from various Al Qaeda leaders, as well as clips from TV news and features. The video also includes it’s spin of US politics.
Although Osama Bin Laden appears in this video, all of the clips appear to be older footage, including segments taken from his October 2004 message to the American people, and his April 2006 message “Oh People of Islam”.
Portions of the video showing Zawahiri are clearly newer, with references to the events at the Lal Masjid this summer, and to the sixth anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

The timing of this release gives an indication of AQ’s intent. By this time, their cells should have carried out at least three attacks, one each in Denmark, Germany, and Turkey, after Osama bin Laden’s message from two weeks ago. The German cell had a deadline of September 15th, and one could presume that the others had similar instructions. This video was meant to be seen after three successful attacks across Europe and Asia, behind enemy lines for AQ. It was meant to demonstrate Western impotence.
Instead, the failed attacks underscore AQ’s own growing impotence. They have not conducted any successful attacks outside of Iraq in quite some time now, and their grand strategy to embarrass the US during the Petraeus testimony has failed. Zawahiri’s claims of victory and momentum wound up being nothing more than hot air.

Sounds like they are pretty desperate, actually. These videos are good news in this regard.

The more we hear from these imbicels the more they show the world the truth of their warped minds and their incompetence. Desperation is evident as they are watching their aspirations fall by the way side …

This does fit their terrorist format, everytime there is a major attack they usually assassinate someone first…Remember before 9/11 it was the Northern Alliance Leader in Afgahnistan.
My husband thinks we should let Musharraf deal with this himself, he thinks Musharraf should face the consequences of making a deal with those people in the remote mountains. That deal allowed them to re constitute themselves. I think it is too dangerous because Pakistan is a Nuclear Power. Pakistan has gotten to “Family Status” with the USA, remember the old saying you can pick your friends but you can’t pick your family. I always look at what is going on in Pakistan first in the War on Terror News, all paths lead back to Pakistan. The Center of Gravity, for the War on Terror. Iran can be contained and probably will be. Syria has to worry about Isreal on one front and the US on the Iraq front, Syria is flanked. That leaves Pakistan, if they are smart, they will turn to the International community, for help with their remote tribal region, that has been taken over by fugitive terrorist.
