As a fellow Canadian, I concur with Blaise. Many, if not most, Canadians are very empathetic to Americans. Unfortunately, after 40 years of the nanny state and Liberal governments and their media, we have developed a significant chunk of the population who harbour anti-Americanism as their default mode. I suspect it is very similar to the DKos and MoveOn crowds who mindlessly attack everything that GWB might say or support and anyone who defends him or his policies. Please don't paint us all with the same brush.

Let's face it - the whole free world lives now, and has lived under the blanket of US protection for most of the last century. And we're up to the job - we have broad shoulders and (mostly) pure motives, witness the fact we haven't taken over anywhere like true "imperialists" would.

The scorn of fools is something that goes with the territory, and is in part proof that we're still doing the right things. Although if it were in my power I'd be mightily tempted to tell them all to go to you-know-where and let them try to fend for themselves - they might grow up and become adult countries and people, if they survived.

iowavette; with resepct, you need to pay a little bit more attention to current events. I'm Canadian, and the magazine cover embarrasses me. Probably a lot of Canadians will feel the same way.

This cover is not much different (and the article maybe not as bad) as some of the anti-Bush garbage that you get in the USA (e.g. General Betrayus. Anything in the New York times etc...) The media...US, Canada, UK and elsewhere have the same arrogant mentality. It knows no borders.

But, if you check the news...perhaps the net...you will find Canadian troops fighting and dying in Afghanistan, a Canadian Prime Minister who is not anti-American and a lot of Canadian who, like me, do not subscribe to the kind of insulting behaviour that MacLean's indulged itself in with the stupid cover.

You need to get a bit of a grip.

I dunno… That one guy from Iran seems rather taken with the man…

 That was pretty good.

People who equate Bush with Hitler/Stalin/Saddam have no real grasp of history or the true horrors of Communist/totalitarian dictator regimes.

I say we plunk these people down in the middle of Tehran and have those lucky enough to get back here alive kiss American soil and thank their lucky stars they live in the USA.

Bush is far from the perfect president - in fact, he's done a lot of stupid things - but a dictator he's definitely not.

Canada, Canada, Canada. I'm so glad their dollar has recently found some equilibrium. This will certainly ensure U.S. forest products companies regain a competitive edge given ours are not subsidizied to the degree common in a nanny state. With the dollar down and economies bubbling globally, U. S. manufacturers are finding plenty of happy buyers - picture American yellow metal, forest products and Buicks mapping the earth. It's humorous to consider a country that in modern times marginalizes the most productive aspects of it's society by legislating language mandates, gives large swaths of the country back to native peoples and continues to insult it's most important customer base. I for one don't buy a damned thing if there's a maple leaf involved. Of course, I never liked Moosehead, in any event.

Comparing Bush to the likes of Hitler, Stalin and Sadaam only shows the complete ignorance of those espousing it. These fools lose all credibility and any reason to pay any attention to anything they have to say when they make such comparisons. Don't like Bush? Fine. Give rational reasons and debate it. Otherwise, shut up. I am sick of the hate and the inability to be rational by these radical, stupid people.

What you maybe don’t see is that Bush hating and American bashing aren’t confined to the leftist fringe in Canada - it’s mainstream, left and right.

Well, if that's true I now have even less respect for Canada.

Canada has slept under a blanket of protection that we have provided. It is telling that they can't even acknowledge that simple fact.
