The Department of Public Safety is working closely with both the New York Police Department and the Secret Service – as we do for all major events on campus – to ensure the safety and security of all members of the University community during this high profile event. As I mentioned yesterday, Columbia students on Facebook have been busy organizing a protest of the Iranian nutjob’s visit on Monday.
Here are some details:

WHERE:
COLUMBIA STUDENTS (w/ Columbia ID’s): On campus, outside Lerner Hall
NON-COLUMBIA STUDENTS: The Columbia Gates. 116th and Broadway – we have secured a permit to stage a protest there.
WHO: YOU and your friends, along with Hillel, Hasbara, StandWithUs, Amcha, ZOA, The David Project, Columbia student groups, concerned citizens. Expected attendance is in the thousands.
WHY: Remember – the world is watching. This is a monumental opportunity to make our voices heard. Generations will ask us, What did we do to protest? Where were we?
NEED A RIDE?
Hasbara Fellowships will be organizing busses from various campuses and points around the city. They are planning to provide busses from: NYU, Rutgers, Baruch, Queens, Hofstra, Brooklyn, and from the earlier rally in front of the UN. YU and Stern students probably have their own busses, ask around. We also need people to step up and be campus leaders to organize the bussing and rallying. Please be in touch. The campus paper, the Columbia Spectator, reports:
Nearly 50 student leaders and a dozen administrators sat down with University President Lee Bollinger for an hour on Thursday for a passionate yet civil discussion to air concerns about Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s scheduled speech on campus on Monday.
When asked by Bollinger, student leaders overwhelmingly agreed that the event was in line with the academic purpose of the University, but several students expressed their disappointment in Bollinger’s handling of the invitation, with many airing concerns about student participation. Meanwhile, students began to solidify plans for a rally on Low Plaza this Monday.
Students’ concerns with the event included the logistics of establishing a rally on campus and the worry that lending Ahmadinejad a podium from which to speak would elevate and legitimize his views. Those in attendance expressed their greatest concerns regarding how students would be involved in the event itself.
“A girl came up to me after [a College Democrats meeting last night]—she was an Iranian student, an Iranian refugee, and she was near tears. She said, ‘I came to Columbia just for this moment, and I can’t believe the event is closed off before I can even register for it,’” Josh Lipsky, CC ’08 and president of the Columbia University College Democrats, said, while expressing his disappointment that only the most well-connected of students had been able to snatch up seats. He called on those in the room to give their seats to underclassmen.
Administrators said that 80 percent of all seats had been reserved for students. For those without a spot, the event will be available via Webcast.
Meanwhile, idiocy abounds. Here’s reason number 9,871 not to send your kid to Columbia:
Christien Tompkins, CC ’08, co-chair of the United Students of Color Council and member of Students Promoting Empowerment and Knowledge, compared the invitation of Ahmadinejad to that of Jim Gilchrist and said he was “disappointed” in Bollinger’s leadership for going out of his way to denounce the Iranian head of state and but not the “racist” founder of the Minutemen Project.
Because, like, opposing illegal immigration is just as bad as calling for the annihilation of Israel, pursuing nuclear revenge, and funding terrorism against American civilians and soldiers.

I heard part of his conversation on the upcoming 60 minutes piece this Sunday where he talked about why he wanted to visit Ground Zero…
He stated ( through a translator ) that when going there, you pay your respects, and you discuss the root causes of why things like that occur.
Now, to me, it seems as if that’s a cue that, given his history, he planned to talk about all the typical “Western Imperialism, America’s desire to dominate and dictate around the world” bullcrap, as that is what many Muslim radicals believe is the reason behind 9-11….
Is THAT what we really want talked about on that site – or, for that matter, on an American University Campus?

Ditto, here. And have you read any of the comments? I first heard about this from the milblogs (don’t recall which one I saw first). At that time, it had nearly 200 comments. My wife flew out last nite to be with her GrandFather Samuel to celebrate his 95th birthday on Saturday (Yom Kippur). Jewish life- has enriched mine beyond measure. With everything her family suffered going back to 15th century in Eurasia, through the First and Second World Wars, into the Holy Land, and in Old New York- not once did she ever hear one of her relatives speak of vengeance against their enemies. Their revenge was to live well, to survive, and flourish. And flourish they have. Flourish, we have.
Pride in being Americans- with a past that strengthens our Nation.
My nine year old is coming home after a week with his 4th grade class at a special
camp where the group of about 150 learn about “conflict resolution”. Word came
back from a parent on the scene there, that he and two of his buddies organized a revolt against a clique which was “talking too much about Global Warming” and making a lot of rules they didn’t think were fair. They spent two days re-organizing the camp into a country “like George Washington’s”.
Youth- the hope of our Nation.
The Columbia students who will be protesting, who will be backed up with 100s of thousands of New Yorkers and other Americans going to the scene, are the answer to the many prayers offered from the good places in the hearts of MILLIONS.
I truly believe there is a connection between what General Petraeus and the Ambassador did in Washington last week and what is happening in New York leading up to NutJob’s visit. We must continue to stand for each other in everything we do- our work, our families, our children’s education. No matter the criticism or the MoveOn’s of the world.
We simply need to stand up in this house of mirrors where the righteous are distorted and the foul are elevated.
NutJob projects the image of Anti-Christ onto the United States. But it is he. He has been waging war against the US for nearly 30 years (with Jimmy Carter’s help).
And it is the youth of this Nation that will pierce his veil of illusion about who we are. To all of the Mothers and Fathers of these fine Americans- I send my strongest, deepest, admiration and respect for the work you did to bring them along to this point. Through all of those days back when they were tykes, and it seemed like they were going to be little forever, up til now when they are taking their place in the history of this Nation, you are to be saluted.

Great post. I too am teribly disappointed in President Bush. I also remember the hostage taking by this Puke Head and to give him a forum on our soil is criminal, IMHO.
I saw an interview with one of the hostages held by Puke Head and he was never given an opportunity to speak at Columbia. He was highly offended by this clown’s visit.
I never imagined that this great country would ever stoop this low. I can only imagine how much lower we will go. God help us.

Diplomatic Immunity wouldn’t apply here because his crimes were committed in Iran, not here in the US. However, I believe that the US would have to get either an indictment or a warrant charging kidnapping and the other felonies.
I don’t see that happening because our leaders don’t have the political will to arrest this idiot. So, don’t look for NYPD or the FBI to show up on Monday with handcuffs. However, they may use the taser on some of the protesters. Hope not.

The Israeli bombing raid on September 6th required that Israeli jets fly nearly 3/4’s of the way across Syrian airspace to hit the target (which has yet to be clearly identified).
Syria recently purchased Russian-made anti-aircraft systems, equipment so new it hasn’t even been installed in Russia yet.
The equipment was rendered useless by Israeli and US technologies. Syria found out it is naked and exposed. So is Iran.
Syria has said NOTHING about this act of war by Israel. Iran has been rather mum too. Why? Interesting, no?
Wheeler said a top ranking Indian military attache returned from Iran this week and said to Wheeler’s sources that the Mullahs were asking when was the US and Israel going to strike and how bad will it be. Freaking out.
So what do you think NutJob’s motivations are for posing for the cameras? I wonder if he will even be allowed to go back to Iran.

My guess as to why: They know that if Iran and Syria have their way, they are next on the list. If Iraq falls, and Israel gets obliterated, the Saudies know that Iran would just LOVE their oil fields…
All things being equal, at least Saudi Arabia’s government isn’t directly funding attacks on our troops. Members of it might be (I wouldn’t be shocked, frankly), but at least it isn’t a freaking governmental mandate…

SWJ-ya, i trust Dr. Wheeler’s connections around the world. He was one of the young Republicans who worked tirelessly to get Reagan elected. And his insights are very inspiring because he believes in the superiority of the US as a nation, and he grasps our place in history- warts and all.

Bush has done a superb job in keeping this US economy between the ditches for the past 7 going on 8 years and definitely changing the stakes for these jihadmonkeys. There are alot more dead ones than there were 8 years ago….and now Iran is going to take a huge final bow in this saga…..the Dhimmicrats don’t stand a chance in 08.
All Iran has to do to ensure a republican victory in ‘08 is to attack, blatantly and openly, either Iraq, Israel, or get caught attacking us.
Any of those three, and we own the election.

Here’s one for ya… Apparently Iran wants inspectors to go into Israel to confirm if it has nukes or not.
Honestly, considering the efficiency and skill of Mussad, I say “Let them in, Israel… The second they leave, bring them out of storage again. We won’t tell anyone…”
The world already knows Israel has nuclear capability. Did i dream this?

It’s one of those “We can neither confirm nor deny” sort of deals.
I mean, yeah, they have them, but it’s not like we have a count, or any real PROOF…
Odds are that the fact Israel even has nukes was an intentional leak from Moussad to deter Arab nations. You’re less likely to go all out on a place when they can kill you ALL in one shot.
Iran just wants them found for certain so it can justify it’s nuke-work.
A shame that rational, logical thought would suggest that if they have them, and haven’t used them, wouldn’t a real and true enemy GETTING the bomb be the trigger to using them?
