Photo of the day
The caption at Flickr (hat tip – reader KH):
From the photograher, Dean Shaddock:
This was captured as I collected my things from airport security (Detroit Metro Concourse A). I think of it as something like a Rorschach test. Is an elderly Catholic nun being frisked by a Muslim security agent the celebration of blind justice? Or is it simply an admission of absurdity?
You tell me.

Robert Spencer weighs in: “Of course there should be random searches, and no one should be exempt — if any group is exempt, its dress will soon be adopted by the terrorists. But there is an absurdity to this photo. And a hint that maybe we would do better devoting our resources to searching those who are more likely to be threats — were that not so politically incorrect.”

Yes.
As weird as a scene from A Clockwork Orange… the flag in the background sadly mocks the moment, and what we have become, all the more.
Political correctness has made a flying leap in to the wild pink absurd.
It’s obivious the security agent was planting a bomb. duh.
I don’t know. Having attended Catholic grade school, ran by nuns, I can tell you they can terrorize.
I agree with Robert that as soon as we exempt one category of Americans from searches, we guarantee that the terrorists will adopt their dress code but this is absurd.
Of course this happened in Detroit although I will admit that I encountered several muslim women TSA agents in Boston. Is there no end to our ignorance?
On first glance, I thought this was a photo of Ahmadinejad kneeling before a nun, contemplating some obscene act. Then I began wondering if the Move-On folks would post it next to the phony pic of Lieberman unzipping Bush. Yeah, absurdity run amok.
I see two women wearing clothing professing their faith. One is employed by a part of the US Government and the other is not. I say only one is doing so solely as act of faith.
Sally…? Sally Field is that you?
Pretty surreal when you think about it.
Shame this is what it’s come too.
the nun was arrested for not wearing a suicide belt.
Not so much an “admission” of absurdity as it fairly screams it. It’d be the stuff of Monty Python if it weren’t so disturbingly real.
Sometimes I really wonder whether it’s going to take something far worse than another 9/11 to wake up a large segment of this country’s populace from the deep, deep state of psychic denial that they’re in.
Looking at this photo results in my having one of those moments.
I think that photo speaks volumes of the farce that is CAIR. They have managed to portray airport searches as being bigoted, targeting only Muslims. It almost seems as if whenever a Muslim gets searched in an airport, we’ll hear about it.
This photo needs to be publicized. After all, when was the last time we heard of the Catholic Church complaining of profiling when their nuns and priests get searched?
Random searches are the order of the day. They do not target a particular ethnic or religious group. The next time we hear of Muslim outrage in the media over alleged profiling, send them this picture and get them to shut the hell up.
I don’t believe anybody sporting Islamic headgear should be frisking anyone in America.
“Faux News Alert”
Nun searched at Michigan Airport, Mystery solved, search reveals Implants, Chinese “do me” Tattoo above rump and Victoria Secret Thong.
Bystander upset after learning she has same Tattoo. Film at 11:00
Yeah, it’s absurd.
If the 9/11 hijackers were from the local convent, I’d say – yes, frisk them and scrutinize them to the N-th degree.
But they weren’t.
Regulus: I fear the fringe is so far beyond reason and so deeply infected with BDS that NO terrorist attack will wake them up to the threat we face.
As a matter of fact, when the next terrorist attack happens, and if Hillary is president, all us women are going to be dressed like one of the people in the photo. I’ll give you one guess WHICH one that is.
Because MoveOn.org and the fringes will insist on complete and total surrender and welcome the caliphate with their open, diversity-loving, tolerant arms.
Excuse me while I go puke.
I’ve said it before that not too far back I observed a TSA employee screening people at concorse E-14 in Dallas TX. It gave me the shivers as I had just returned from a SE Asian country where the beheading of Budhists is carried out regularly by islamic people.
The TSA is a joke.
I need to know more about the people in this photograph before I get outraged. There have been a number of “peace activists” who have claimed to be priests and nuns to get more publicity for their “cause.” I wouldn’t put it past anyone in groups sympathetic to CAIR and Islamic jihad to stage something like this–dress up a Code Pinko in a habit, arrange for her to go through security during the shift of a friend who wears the hijab (very common at DTW), and get a third “passer-by” to post pictures to the Internet. Very easy, and very easy to turn our predictable (justified, of course) outrage against us.
I’m big into the “verify” portion of “trust but verify.”
And Robert is right, of course. I’m kind of surprised jihadists haven’t started planting explosives on their dumb white girlfriends’ small children.
“Or is it simply an admission of absurdity?”
A representative from the religion of peace and love being searched by a representative from the religion of perpetual rage. PC gone mad. Don’t go after who is out to kill us…go after everyone else. We certainly don’t want to tick off someone who already hates us.
Mineta is a Moron
Even if…god-forbid…there is another, more massive terrorist attack in this country, maybe nuke weapons in a few cities….then what? What are we going to do then? I’d like to hear just what people think they would do. What would change? Would we run the muslims out of this country? Would we be allowed to? Would our own government stop us from “cleaning-house” in the name of tolerance? There is death every year by the thousands right now at the hands of illegal immigrants….what has changed because of this? Nothing. There is death by the thousands each year in all of our inner cities….what has changed because of this? Nothing. It’s only going to get worse for the USA. We are selling out all of our infrastructure to foreign investors, our kids are being corrupted at earlier and earlier ages by the media and other groups and no one in charge does anything. You cannot fight a pit bull with a poodle…or a keyboard for that matter. Our so-called leaders have learned to ignore us no matter what we say or where we say it. They could care less about us and the weird thing is, is we know it. Our own government seems hell-bent on putting us all in the poor house and in the grave! Why? What is their motivation? Money? Power? Oil? When will the craziness stop? There is a revolution coming folks. People in our government (doesn’t matter affiliation) are testing us. Testing us to see if we will remain as sheep or rise up and force them out. We are the greatest country on earth and we have been hijacked for the last 50 years at least. Soon…taking up arms will be our only option. That is the only way to change what, so far, is the inevitable destruction of our great country. Our laws (constitution, bill of rights etc.) are a barrier for those who want America to submit. We are the only country with real power for the people….but everyday that power is being stripped away piece by piece in a myriad of different ways. We have enemies within and that is our real threat!
The biggest absurdity since AJ from The Sopranos mugging a guy on the street.
Putting so much emphasis on airline security while ignoring much larger threats, such as infiltration at the border, or mass immigration of often hostile Moslems, is absurd.
The logic seems to be that much less blame would attach to Washington if terrorists struck in a new manner than if they did the same airline thing again.
Security panders to the emotion of the people, not to logic.
I have worn long skirts through airport security and I do not recall anyone getting on their knees to search them. Asking for a blessing? Heh
Muslim screeners? The fox guarding the hen house, IMHO.
Wow, what more can really be said. Absurd indeed!
Robert Spencer does make a very fine point, but the picture does say it all. Wow. Just wow.
Let’s see. The Nun is supposed to be a terrorist in disguise, right? And the powers that are have to let the Muslim TSA agent search her. There is definitely something to be said about that, but more importantly the main question begs — what in the HELL are we doing with Muslim TSA agents?? Civil libertarians need to really examine their motives, and their consciences.
It is absurd if every Muslim is considered a terrorist.
Is every Muslim a terrorist?
I think we need to ask ourselves what are we doing with the TSA anyway? This organization is completely inept. The concept of putting up so much security at airports is beyond my abilty to reason. I am well aware that Arab, Muslims seem to have a thing for planes, but any security that we put in place can easily be foiled. If we desire to stop terrorism, we need to either give in to the terrorist wishes (get out of the middle East) or destroy them (not “nation building”).
So far Bush has not opted for either situation. He did seem to have the idea in the first part of the “war on terror” but got bogged down in Iraq and lost his vision. Just the phrase “war on terror” indicates the loss of direction. Terror is a weapon. Who is using the weapon, kill them. That is what we need to do.
I was very much distrubed by the press and reaction on the girl that had the “fake bomb” Friday. A completely innocent girl that wore a lighted tee shirt to the airport. She was almost killed and was arrested. If this is the state of our country, then what freedom do we have? Why do we have troops fighting for our freedom when we have given it up at home?
I am well aware that the terrorist want to do us harm. But do you really think that all this security is stopping them? And what is the cost to our freedom. I say get rid of the stupid security, if people are killed (which will happen anyway) then take it out of the countries, religion or whatever of those that do the harm. The fact that we have not had an incident in 6 years does not mean that the terrorist are hampered in their activity. It means that our reaction to them and their methods has worked and they don’t need to do anything further.
Uh, hello, it wasn’t simply a “lighted tee shirt”, she had Play Dough or some such thing to make it look like plastic explosives. And she was in Logan – remember where those flights originated? And yes, she could have been killed for her stupid actions. But she wasn’t.
So far the terroists seem to be Muslims rather than Catholic nuns, but hey, maybe that’s just me.
Nope. But you can say that most every terrorist is a Muslim.
AlohaGuy:
Were is the link to the playdough? I saw the shirt on the news and it was a series of led lights connected to a computer board and 9 volt battery. It said “shock it to me” and had been made for a day at MIT after which she wore it to see her boyfriend. Now if my rendition of this is correct, we have a major problem with our attitude, paranoia and government. If however, you produce a discription that is not what I have provided then I apologize.
In this day and age it just seems like good common sense, regardless of intentions, not to wear something like that into the airport. Too often free speech is used as an excuse to act like a dumb ass.
Sorry, the “link” function won’t work here, so the entire link shows.

Either trapped between politically correctness and common sense or way off the edges where no middle ground exists.
TSA screening is window dressing, nothing more.
Hmmmm…. I wonder if she frisks people dressed in traditional Muslim costumes, too? Or are they just waved through, no matter if the metal detector goes off or not.
