Update 9:40pm Eastern. Need another reason to get off your duff and join one of the protests in NYC or DC tomorrow. Check out Allahpundit’s summary of the Iranian nutjob’s talking points from his 60 Minutes’ appearance, which was taped in Iran on Thursday.

Meantime, filed tonight by the Associated Press, charges from the US about Iranian-sent missiles in Iraq:

The U.S. military accused Iran on Sunday of smuggling surface-to-air missiles and other advanced weapons into Iraq for use against American troops. The new allegations came as Iraqi leaders condemned the latest U.S. detention of an Iranian in northern Iraq, saying the man was in their country on official business. Military spokesman Rear Adm. Mark Fox said U.S. troops were continuing to find Iranian-supplied weaponry including the Misagh 1, a portable surface-to-air missile that uses an infrared guidance system. Other advanced Iranian weaponry found in Iraq includes the RPG-29 rocket-propelled grenade, 240 mm rockets and armor-piercing roadside bombs known as explosively formed penetrators, or EFPs, Fox said.

An American soldier was killed Saturday and another wounded when an EFP hit their patrol in eastern Baghdad, the military said.

Update 8:00pm Eastern. A few photos from the protests earlier today…

Update: 9/11 family member Sgt. Tim Sumner passes along this flabbergasting FARS report and wonders which families he’s going to meet…

After having been rejected by the United States administration to visit the site of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is now planning to meet the families of the 9/11 victims, Fars news agency reported.

Fars, which is close to the presidential office, further reported that Ahmadinejad would also meet US war critics…

Yes, question their patriotism. And their sanity.

In addition to the National Rally to End the Threat Now at noon on Monday at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza across from the United Nations and the Columbia U. student protest on Monday from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at The Columbia Gates. 116th and Broadway, there’s a rally against Ahmadinejad today at 12:30pm:

At 12:30 p.m. Sunday, New York City Council Member David I. Weprin (D-Hollis), chair of the New York City Council Finance Committee, will join other elected officials, community groups and civic leaders to protest Ahmadinejad’s visit and urge Columbia to rescind its invitation. The rally is to take place at Columbia’s main gate at W. 116th St. and Broadway.

Ahead of his visit here, the Iranian nutjob sent a shout-out to his Hamas homeboys

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad reaffirmed his support for the Hamas authorities in the Gaza Strip, in a telephone call with the premier dismissed by the Palestinian leadership, a Hamas spokesman said Sunday.

“Prime minister Ismail Haniya spoke Saturday night with … the president of the Iranian Islamic republic Mahmoud Ahmadinejad,” spokesman Tahar Al Nunu said.

“He wished him well on the occasion of the month of Ramadan, and reaffirmed Palestinian-Iranian ties,” he added.

…and enjoyed an Iranian military parade of new long-range missiles, replete with “Death to the US/Israel” banners (via LGF):

Will Ahmadinejad’s hosts at his National Press Club luncheon videoconference chew on that?

    Scottydog,

Are you sure that there’s a warrant out for his arrest? If so, from what country was it issued and is it for murder?

    trinitytim

I posted the links yesterday to the facts about the warrant for his arrest. You can click on the numerous links from Joseph Farah’s editorial on Iranian President Mahmood Ahmadinejad

He lead an asasination team into Viena where they killed a Kurdish leader, Abdul Rahman Ghassemlou.

    The relevant quote:

“Charges against Ahmadinejad have been handed over to the public prosecutor’s office, according to Interior Ministry spokesman Rudolf Gollia.”

Keep in mind those charges where filed in 2005

Columbia has said that they would not have invited him if we were at war with Iran. Well, as far as I’m concerned we are at war with Iran. And we have been since 1979.

    disgraceful.

LOVE the fact people are branding him a terrorist! I mean, that makes perfect sense…. anyone who is against us - TERRORIST!!!

Poor Ahmadinejad, he’s so misunderstood. He didn’t mean destroy Israel. It was just a figure of speech. And he would never allow weapons into Iraq… to be used on American troops… It must be some kind of mistake. Oh, and his nuclear ambitions are for peaceful purposes. And no, he couldn’t have been one of the hostage takers in 1979… that’s just crazy talk.
Mean ol’ conservatives… you should be ashamed of yourself… labeling him as a terrorist.

    1) He hates Israel, as do most in the Arab world - including many of the leaders who get millions in support from the USA. So are they ALL terrorists because of that? (There is a New York Times article about his Israel comments - but I don’t expect you to read it as we all know the NYT is PURE EVIL!!! etc)

    2) Because we all know American weapons have certainly never killed hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians in Iraq.

    3) Who should decide what countries can have nuclear power or weapons?

    4) No proof he was one of the hostage takers in 1979

    I’m quite surprised you didn’t mention 9/11….

    From the article you cited:

“All official translations of Mr. Ahmadinejad’s statement, including a description of it on his Web site (www.president.ir/eng/), refer to wiping Israel away. ”

“So did Iran’s president call for Israel to be wiped off the map? It certainly seems so. Did that amount to a call for war? That remains an open question.”

So what definitive proof do you have to bolster YOUR argument from that article?

    2) Because we all know American weapons have certainly never killed hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians in Iraq.

HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS? Each time that number has been mentioned, it has been contradicted.

And - why do you seem to claim that the US is the major cause of death to civilians when the insurgents and Al Qaida are the primary perpetrators of the use of car bombs and the main cause of civilian deaths and injuries?

    3) Who should decide what countries can have nuclear power or weapons?

Would you have allowed Adolph Hitler’s Germany to have nuclear weapons?

Who should decide or at least have a say is the United States / NATO / United Nations - with the US as, historically, the greatest force for freedom in the world.

    4) No proof he was one of the hostage takers in 1979

Several of the hostages themselves have identified him as one of their captors.

You are wrong. All the 1979 Embassay hostages have said that it is was Ahmadinejad who was the ring leader and supervised the torture of our citizens.

Here is a Russian newspaper published photo that proves it but I am sure you will say it proves nothing.

“Perhaps the most damning evidence against Ahmadinejad with regard to the hostage-taking came from Bani-Sadr, Iran’s president during the early days of the Khomeini revolution.”

“He has adamantly affirmed Ahmadinejad was one of the kidnappers who held 52 Americans for 444 days. He said the former student leader was in the embassy throughout the hostage crisis.”

“Ayatollah Khomeini’s deputy, Ayatollah Khamenei, demanded of him a constant report on what is happening in the embassy,” he said.”

“When told Ahmadinejad denied the accusation, Bani-Sadr laughed.”

“What do you want?” he said. “That he should not deny it? I was president, and I know the details, and I am telling you for sure that he was there, though his role was not organizational. He was the chief reporter to Khamenei.”

“Sadr added that Ahmadinejad initially opposed the hostage-taking but changed his mind once Khomeini gave his support.”

“At least six former American hostages agree the president of Iran played a key role in interrogating and abusing them.”

BTW, I am curious, are you an American?
