Chris Daly is one of the most negligent Supervisors when it comes to fighting crime and drugs. His district is a mess. But so is he. Big hole in the middle of the man- as in ZERO.

I like San Francisco. It holds a lot of memories for me. There are sites and sounds there that deserve to live.

It will run its course: and one day the children will return to this kid-unfriendly city. The decision makers who run it will realize that families are the heart of any city- not drunken debauching, non-reproducing, gentrifying elitists.

Scenario:

9.6 San Andreas fault earthquake essentially destroys San Francisco. Should the rest of America send aid?

o Yes
o No
o HELL NO!
x Screw them!

See my "proposal" to turn San Francisco into a military training area at Hot Air.

I'm with Daly on this one, keep the Blue Angels, The Marines, Fleet Week, Thunderbirds, ROTC, National Guard and any other military associated dollars out of SanFran.

Do they even need a police force? Just think how much more they could dole out in welfare payments if they didn't have to pay cops to supress them all the time? After all, the conserative republicans are the real criminals right? Group hug and all is well. /sarc

Perhaps following the next devastating earthquake the good people of San Francisco will tell the National Guard to stay out.

jrlingreenbay as far as the draft goes I can speak from being in the all volunteer Military (USAF) since 4 Nov 75 – 30 Sep 00 and working as a Civilian 5 Nov 01 to present. Not NO, but “HELL NO!” The last thing any Commander or NCO would want in their unit is a non-volunteer they are nothing but trouble. The Koskids just don’t get it. None of the recruiters are having problems filling their quotas and we are actually turning people away. We have the most highly motivated and educated Military in the world, who would want to start drafting anyone that doesn’t meet the standards by forcing a less than qualified individual into the ranks. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it!

I know this is slightly off-topic, but does have a military / liberal-viewpoint overtone to it, and there's nowhere else to voice this at this time.

This is from today's DailyKos - a poll they're running:

Poll
Should the U.S. bring back the draft so that all our young men and women---including cowardly Republicans who cheer the war but refuse to fight in it---will be equally on the hook for defending our freedom in Iraq and Afghanistan?

0 Yes

0 No

0 Not sure/No opinion

They seem to forget the history of the military being populated by a majority of conservative / republican voters.

What - do they think that LIBERALS are the ones fighting?

I'd wager that more San Franciscans want the Blue Angels there, than don't. However, the 'know what's good for you better than you do' crowd is loud in that city.

If they are so concerned about safety, why were the chase scenes for the movie "The Rock" allowed to be shot? Hummers and sports cars careening through the streets of San Francisco doesn't sound very safe to me. Also, there are several "communities" in San Francisco whose cultural practices are, shall we say, less than safe. Should we not permit those, either?

I like nothing better than being able to watch any of the Military aerial demonstration teams at an Air Show. The Blue Angels blow just about everybody else away. Would really like to catch their show this year, but not scheduled for Idaho.

Watched the Thunderbirds since they were in F-100s and was able to refuel the F-16s the year they transferred from the T-38 (very bad year before they lost all but one member of the team). Begged us not to scratch the paint they were so stable you couldn’t miss the aerial refueling receptacle with the boom. The yahoos actually refueled in wing tip formation something considered to be highly dangerous and not approved by the Air Force. I was able to bring the wife along (she was still active duty at the time) and we were able to take some great pictures.

Was at the Mountain Home AFB Air Show and watched the pilot fly the aircraft into the ground that year. I lost the visual right after he took off in the sun and my wife stated he was going to crash and I caught visual again right as his canopy separated. Crash happened so fast the next thing I saw was the fireball that just missed the Control Tower. I heard someone saw the pilot got out and they stated he stood up waved and then collapsed. Ejection trauma is not good on the body, but it sure beats the alternative. Unfortunately it was pilot error, but I heard the pilot was still allowed to fly in the viper squadron. Back in my day he would have been flying a desk, but pilots cost too much to train and as the old saying goes about screwing up in an aircraft, there are those that have, those that will, and those that will again. Had my own bad days too every eat an F-4? I almost did. You know you are having a bad day when you can see the pilot’s eye color. Been there done that have the emotional scares to prove it.

Sorry about being long winded, but brings back great memories from being able to participate in Air Shows and get to watch the hot shots do their thing. I really appreciate them risking their lives demonstrating many techniques used in basic pilot training and some that are strictly for the best pilots we have. Too bad San Francisco’s Communist Government can’t get past their hate for the Military.
