They are not coming here because they can’t find work in Mexico.

Many of them are from South American countries where they can't find work, and Mexicos laws regarding illegal immigration make it next impossible to work (if they could find a job with a livable wage), so to limit the problem, the Mexican governmnet just moves them through and across our borders. Except for the few that get raped and enslaved before being sent back.

Our governments unwilligness to close the borders attracts workers from all of Central and South America and Africa, through Mexico. With the help of the Mexican government. And I've heard that Al Qaeda has been recruting and training it's people to look and act like hispanic/Mexican workers to get across our borders.

It will be our down fall.

And thanks to the Supreme Court, we need a constitutional amendment to limit terms for Congress. Good luck with that.

The unemployment rate in Mexico, according to the CIA Factbook, is 3.2%. And their GDP is growing faster than ours.

They are not coming here because they can’t find work in Mexico.

You probably believe that Cuba has excellent healthcare, too. The CIA Factbook gets their information from the Mexican government and even if it were 3.2%, most of those people would be getting around $5 per day. You can't live on that even in Mexico.

Let me get this straight…you think -America- should shoulder the burden and descend into chaos as these unwanted Mexicans are herded to our country in order to keep the corrupt Mexican government from doing the right thing by its people? Is this how most of the Open Borders nuts think?

PBoilermaker, great job of missing the point and reading what I didn’t write. Here it is in a series of simple sequential steps:

(1) Mexican government is forced to export population (and economic) problem to avoid having to deal with it.

(2) Mexican government and power brokers will never deal with because it will lead to a loss of power and wealth (i.e. their downfall).

(3) Nothing changes until U.S. stops illegal immigration from Mexico. This will instigate (4).

(4) Mexican corruption and economic failure due to millions in economic hardship will lead to a bloody revolution comparable to or probably even worse than the 1910 revolution because of (2).

As for how the Open Borders nuts think, I have no clue because I’ve never met one. But then I live close to the border and we don’t have the luxury of living in ivory tower multicultural looneyville.

Desparation has driven immigration to the US for well over 100 years. Legal immigration. There have been many families left with the necessary choice to send only one member, that choice being one of immigration limits and economics.

While Mexico has its share of poor people, it also has a healthy share of the ultra rich. There seems to be no middle class in Mexico. With that said, the poor of Mexico would look downright middle class in comparison to the poverty of those legally immigrating to this Country over the last 100 years or so.

Those legal immigrants wanted to become American Citizens. They wanted to assimilate, to speak English and to participate as citizens.

Before they were allowed in the Country, they went through a mandatory health screening to keep infectious diseases out of the population.

What we are seeing now is not the desparation that drove many of our ancestors to these shores. What we are seeing are people who have no desire to assimilate, to speak English or to become citizens of the US. People who see free health care, financial help, schools that will teach their children in Spanish and an opportunity to upgrade their status.

The opportunities they seek are indeed for a better life - in Mexico. Next to oil, money sent from Mexican citizens in the US to Mexico is a top contributor to Mexico's GNP.

And if you really think about it, it is one big criminal enterprise. The government there fosters and promotes illegal immigration here. The proceeds from those corrupt and illegal activities are funneled out of the country. Talk about a RICO case!

The left is quick to use the death toll in Iraq as justification for ending the war. Yet, if one added up the death toll to US citizens caused by illegal immigrants, it is my humble opinion that those deaths would exceed the toll in Iraq - deaths caused by a WAR. If loss of life is a barometer, that reason alone should serve as justification for ending illegal immigration.

A rape involving a US soldier makes international news. A rape by an illegal immigrant in the US seems to barely make the police blotter.

Perhaps we should start a "body count" ticker, and include felonies committed by illegals. Good old Nacy Pelosi does not want a border fence. I'd like to see her explain her reasoning to the members of families greiving over the loss or acts of people in this country illegally.

On September 28th, 2007 at 5:39 pm, Don Miguel said:
The Mexican government has no choice but to encourage Mexicans to emigrate north. There is so little opportunity for the millions of uneducated and undereducated people there that without the release valve of unfettered emigration Mexico would descend into chaos like it did a century ago with a bloody revolution. A combination of oligarchy and socialism just doesn’t work for the majority of the people and those in power will never do anything to stop it because they will lose their power and wealth. If the U.S. can prevent most illegal immigration from Mexico, those in power will not adapt and will be wishing it was 1910 again.

The coyotes in this case used a van. The terrorist could use a Mini cooper to smuggle Madmood in the country, if his visa is ever revoked. I’m sure he could stay at the dorms at Columbia U.

There was an incident in Iowa about five years ago where the remains of approximately 30 people (that they couldn't get an accurate body count should probably warn you that this is going to be disgusting) who had been welded inside a box car, probably in Texas, and ended up sitting in a railyard in Iowa for three months over the summer. The coyotes either lost the boxcar, or (more likely) never cared to look for it in the first place.

So no, nothing surprises me.

And I don't think it's desperation, either. Hillary's statements today about giving the parents of every baby born here--regardless of legal or economic status--$5k will be broadcast all over Mexico in both the media and word of mouth.

Why do you think illegals in communities beginning to enforce the laws are going to Canada instead of back to where they hold citizenship? Canada has long prided itself on its reputation for giving newbies lots of free stuff.

There are jobs in a few major cities and the tourist zones. Outside that, it's very rough going. I'm not sure how it works but many, what appear to be private sector jobs, are reliant on political patronage. I won't mention the industry but we're constantly retraining our associates in Mexico because whenever there's regime change, even locally, everyone loses their jobs. With the natural and human resources that country offers, there's no excuse for immigration of this magnitude and desperation. The blame rests squarely on the Federal District of Mexico City, not Washington, D. C. The political and academic elites in Mexico City are socialists.

There are jobs in a few major cities and the tourist zones. Outside that, it’s very rough going. I’m not sure how it works but many, what appear to be private sector jobs, are reliant on political patronage. I won’t mention the industry but we’re constantly retraining our associates in Mexico because whenever there’s regime change, even locally, everyone loses their jobs. With the natural and human resources that country offers, there’s no excuse for immigration of this magnitude and desperation. The blame rests squarely on the Federal District of Mexico City, not Washington, D. C. The political and academic elites in Mexico City are socialists. They blame everything on “El Norte” to duck accountability for allowing their own people to sacrifice themselves just to feed their families. The elites lead very prosperous, suburban lives. It’s pathetic and sickening.

i recently visited mexico for vacation. this is what i saw: the majority of cars are newer models the oldest model i saw was a 93 toyota, many american companies (WalMart, Costco, Staples, etc.), and all new construction in the city and in the outlying areas, too. So, my question is if that is not a sign of a booming economy then what is it? it isnt' that there aren't jobs in mexico, it is that it is tied to the tourist industry, where you have to speak and understand english. so we are getting the truly uneducated as well as the criminals. it isn't jobs that americans won't do, it is fleeing persecution and coming to get the american freebies.....that is the gold they are seeking.
