I admire and enjoy everyone on all the lists, particularly Coulter: What an animal. She takes it to the moonbats in a manner that Republican politicians should learn from. Michelle goes without saying. I’m here every day. Another fav is “W”, the President. He goes off the reservation in some areas but not without significant thought and prior experience. I still don’t agree but admire his resolution. I ADORE Dick Cheney. He’s incredibly intelligent and erudite. I always tune into his interviews where one can find any. Also, Steve Janke of Angry in the Great White North. He’s doing the Lord’s work up in the frozen north attempting to sway a pack of commie canucks. Definitely an example of the lone voice in the wilderness.

By way of introduction, I’m a moderate independent who leans a bit right of center on most issues and left of center on a few (mostly social stuff). I consider myself rational, reasonable and pragmatic…call me an “old school” conservative with a libertarian bent and a dose of classic liberalism on a few specific issues. As a result, politicians and political pundits from the Rocky Mountain West (of both parties) tend to appeal to me. These folks tend to be pretty results oriented and aren’t particularly interested in dogmatic ideology, extreme positions or unproductive demagoguery. I feel like I’m probably at least in the plurality in this country, and folks such as me have little use for extremists on either the right (e.g., Limbaugh, Coulter, Hannity, Tancredo, Hunter, etc.) or the left (Rosie, Randi Rhodes (sp?), Kucinich, etc.). Anyway, sorry to ramble and here’s my list, in no particular order. I’ve eliminated all rigid ideologues, demagogues, authoritarians, neocons, extreme social conservatives, empty suits, and those with no manners, honor or integrity.

Barry Goldwater – the father of the modern conservative movement. He hated that his party and movement had been hijacked.

George Will – can be a bit pompous obviously, but he’s the real deal.

William F. Buckley – an original. The classic traditional conservative.

Pat Buchanan – love listening to this guy talk politics. Straight shooter agree with him or not.

John Dean – most of you probably don’t consider him to be a conservative. You’d be wrong. He’s a traditional conservative and was very close to Goldwater. If you haven’t already, read Conservatives w/o a Conscience.

    Andrew Sullivan – see above.

Sandra Day O’Connor – again, many of you likely don’t consider her a conservative, but you’d be wrong again. She’s a classic, traditional conservative. BTW, was closely aligned with Reinquist over the years and was close with Goldwater.

Hugh Hewitt – disagree with him often (especially on social issues), but this guy is smart, he’s reasonable and he’s civil. Especially enjoy his interviews with authors (see Hitchens) of all political persuasions.

Also, I would note that including politicians serving prior to WWII when listing your favorite right wingers doesn’t make much sense. The terms “conservative” and “liberal” didn’t have the same meanings prior to that time.

Finally, I’d like to thank Ms. Malkin for opening registration to her site. Given my independent/moderate stance on most issues, I tend to visit blogs covering the right, left and middle, and I’ve gotta say that hotair.com and michellemalkin.com are two of the better sites in terms of presentation, ease of use, look and feel, etc. Both are very, very well put together. To top it off, Moran’s “Terms of Use” is the best I’ve ever seen…didn’t think it was possible to make such a thing entertaining.

I’ve never had the pleasure of listening to Michelle regularly on TV or radio, but my local station (WTKK in Boston) carries both Bill O’Reilly (not my cup of tea) and Laura Ingraham (on too late for me to catch most nights).

I look forward to some spirited debate. Many’s the time I wanted to respond to some hatin’ from MM and her worshipers but haven’t been able to.

In response to her graciousness, I’ll allow that Ms. Malkin does seem to be more principled than your Sean Hannity variety of Republican hack. As for the most admirable conservatives, I’ll nominate George Will, William F. Buckley, and Andrew Sullivan, all of whom are appalled, as proper conservatives should be, by the abuses and missteps of the Bush administration.

    *** ¡ ¡ ¡ FLORIDA UPDATE !!! ***

Ignoring Canadian suggestion that the remnants of Karen regenerate and hit Miami as a Category 5 hurricane on Sunday.

Although hurricane potential is low, as system is starting out cold core and baroclinic, the Florida impacts through tomorrow, and Louisiana impacts about Friday, mean I should discuss this.

Winds approaching tropical storm strength in Bahamas as subtropical low may be forming.

Satellite loop of disorganized feature, as a non-tropical low pressure tried to form on old frontal boundary due to baroclinic (non-tropical) processes.

If the upper level low backs Southwest faster than the resulting surface low, the thunderstorms around the low may be able to cause an accumulation of heat above the low, the first step in the transition from a purely polar low to a sub-tropical hybrid, then a purely tropical storm.

The feature will also have too battle dry air being pulled into Florida and the Gulf by the upper low as seen on the Cape Canaveral sounding, with PW a dry 1.1 inches. (28mm)

Models suggest a second Gulf landfall between Morgan City and Pensacola

Decay SHIPs model predicts 43 knots (50 mph or 80 km/hr) at landfall.

Ok, just because you asked, while not likely, here is Environment Canada’s ‘Canadian Meteorological Centre’ model showing the end of human life in Miami next Sunday.

I don’t accept that forecast, yet.

Rather than compile a numerical list of my favorite persons on the right, I decided to list my favorite persons on the right by different genre (media and non-media):

    Media:

    Television: Sean Hannity
    Radio: Rush Limbaugh
    Newspaper: Charles Krauthammer

    Non-Media:

    Politician: Vice President Dick Cheney
Law: Justices Antonin Scalia & Clarence Thomas (tie)
    Diplomat: Ambassador John Bolton

Overall favorite (any media, any time):

Conservative Ingénue, Ms. Michelle Maglalang (the early years in Los Angeles & Seattle) and Mrs. Michelle Malkin (columnist, blogger, author, and political commentator)(it almost makes me feel like a Democrat to be stuffing the ballot box).

    4) Sean Hannity
    5) Jonathan Hoenig
    6) Rush Limbaugh

I would rank Rush, Michelle, Anne Coulter, and Laura Ingraham as dead even in number one.

The others are all good and would be difficult to rank.

Rush changed things “way back when”, and the Ladies seem to be the only ones besides Rush that have the real spine to take on the Fiberals and tell them how it is.

As for Anne Coulter being combative—GREAT!! The Fibs attack her because they can’t answer her truthfully.

We conservatives have been too nice and taken too much. We don’t have to become nutroots, but at least we don’t have to roll over.

Thank you for allowing me to give a minor rant on my first post.
