Update 2:40pm Eastern. Remember Josh Lansdale? The left doesn’t want you to…

Full background here.

Update 12:30pm Eastern 10/2. Crikey. The moonbats launch an anti-Rush attack ad campaign.

Update 12:06pm Eastern 10/2. Rush comments on Harkin, top of his radio show: “I feel like apologizing to his family” for his behavior on the Senate floor. “Demeaning.” “So beneath the decorum” in the Senate…”They are trying to distract from their dismal approval ratings and failures.”

Update 11:15am Eastern 10/2. Bryan Preston, the man responsible for our Hot Air Absolute Moral Authority Card collection, adds a new one to the deck:

Update 8:30am Eastern : USAToday’s OnPolitics blog tracks the latest thrusts and parries: “There’s much more likely to be said about all this, we trust.”

Update: The Rush-hating left is almost beyond parody, but Scott Ott, as always, pulls it off: ‘Phony Vets for Truth’ Join Reid Attack on Rush Limbaugh.

Update: Glenn Reynolds wonders: “I noted back in 2004, the last time Harkin made this an issue, that the press was giving him a pass. Will it do so again? And why are the Democrats letting Harkin, of all people, get out front on this issue?”

***
Is there any doubt that Tom Harkin is a MoveOn.org Democrat?

None. None at all.

Harkin attacking Rush Limbaugh on the Senate floor:

Well, I don’t know. Maybe he was just high on his drugs again. I don’t know whether he was or not. If so, he ought to let us know. But that shouldn’t be an excuse.

Why is Harkin counter-attacking so viciously?

Maybe this has something to do with it:

Limbaugh did offer an apology today, but not for himself — rather for Media Matters, an organization that circulated his remarks about “phony soldiers” last week.

“I want to apologize to all of the members of the United States Military, both in uniform and out, active duty and retired, for Media Matters for America,” Limbaugh said today. “They will not apologize to you, and they will not apologize to me. I want to apologize to you on behalf of them. As all of you military personnel know, I, since (the) beginning of time and since the beginning of this program, certainly 19 years ago, have been one of the most ardent, loyal, in-awe supporters of any and all who wear the uniform — including those who disagree with the mission.”

What is the deal with the Democrats and:

    1) The Vietnam War. Is all this focus on Vietnam bringing back some 1960’s memories for them or something? I don’t know about everyone else, but we’ve got a war in Iraq and Afghanistan going on.

    2) Lying about our troops—or about BEING a troop. I have yet to see one Republican make deceptive media about our soldiers or some comment like “go insurgents go kill US troops.”

    3) Trying to limit conservative free speech. Why is the House wasting our tax $$ time on Rush Limbaugh? Has he become so incredibly powerful that he’s shaking the foundations of the self-toted new and improved democrat-led House?

I think that’s right. Media Matters knows that anyone who looks into its charges will know that they are bogus. But that’s almost beside the point. Their objective (i.e., the Clintons’ objective) is to arm fellow-liberal mainstream media outlets with excuses to ignore Limbaugh (”He insulted the troops!”) and O’Reilly (”He’s a racist!”) as the election approaches. It’s all about putting Bill Clinton back in the White House.

Unless a man is honest, we have no right to keep him in public life; it matters not how brilliant his capacity.” “The weakling and the coward cannot be saved by honesty alone; but without honesty, the brave and able man is merely a civic wild beast who should be hunted down by every lover of righteousness.” “No man who is corrupt, no man who condones corruption in others, can possibly do his duty by the community….” “‘Liar’ is just as ugly a word as ‘thief,’ because it implies the presence of just as ugly a sin in one case as in the other. If a man lies under oath or procures the lie of another under oath, if he perjures himself or suborns perjury, he is guilty under the statute law.” “Under the higher law, under the great law of morality and righteousness, he is precisely as guilty if, instead of lying in a court, he lies in a newspaper or on the stump; and in all probability, the evil effects of his conduct are infinitely more widespread and more pernicious.”

    From transcript on Rush’s website

They’re a Hillary Clinton front group. They will continue to be used as an accredited source by the Drive-By Media, despite the fact that they have now been demonstrated to make things up, take things out of context, and embarrass those who report what they say. They will continue to be a source, because this is the ‘08 playbook that we saw break down last week, and the Democrats may still introduce their resolution in the House castigating me. I don’t know. The House doesn’t go into session ’til two o’clock. We’ll have to wait and see. I don’t know if they will do that or not. If they do it, it is just an effort to try to portray themselves as pro-military because they know they have to because they know the impression they have accurately created is that they’re not pro-military, from Jack Murtha to Harry Reid claiming defeat, to John Kerry’s lifetime of criticism of the soldiers. So they’re going to try to deflect the criticism away from their pet organization, MoveOn.org, whose “Betray Us” ad backfired totally on them. It was a Wellstone moment for them, as this will be. But since you will never get an apology from Jack Murtha for mischaracterizing you as murderers, since you’ll never get an apology from John Kerry, since you won’t get an apology from Media Matters for America or anybody that works there, to all of you in the US Military, I want to apologize to you for them for the, again, firestorm over something that did not happen regarding your valor and your commitment to freedom and democracy last week on this program. I really regret that it happened, and I apologize to you on their behalf since they won’t.

Our founders realized that uncomfortable, even hateful, speech needed to be protected so that the average American citizen could judge it for himself. The internet and FoxNews is taking on moveon.org quite nicely and what is really needed is the repeal of the hate speech laws which are now being used arbitrarily to attack anyone who espouses a politically uncorrect position or to protect someone who espouses an unpopular politically correct position. What is also needed is some common sense law that labels pornography as something other than speech.

The dems are trying their successful Vietnam tactic that led to a denial of the Gulf of Tonkin resolution and subsequent abandoning of our allies in Vietnam. I was there…at 3,000 feet and twenty miles away in a Navy E1B aircraft equipped with a powerful radar. I directed strike aircraft to protect our ships as I saw raw video on the radar scope of at least 12 small boats darting in and around the USS Maddox. I also established relay communications with the USS Ticonderoga and heard the combat information officer aboard the USS Maddox report multiple torpedoes running under the ship. The only reason they did not sink her was the fact that the Maddox was at the end of her time on station in the Gulf of Tonkin and was low on fuel so was running high in the water. The torpedoes were set to run at a depth too low to hit her.

I have a letter of commendation for my actions that night from Admiral Roy L. Johnson to prove the above. You’ll find it in Navy records as Ser: 002-1406 dated 12 October 1964.

I subsequently served two tours in Vietnam and was awarded a chest full of medals. Two of those medals were from President Johnson who, as you might recall, caved in to public polls and MSM pressure and gave up. Another example of a Democratic politician praising heroism without showing any.

As Yogi said, it’s deja vu all over again.

I agree…Hate speech laws are first cousin to McCain-Feingold. It’s the Liberals attempt to amend the Constitution without the ratification of the people. It’s OK for Congressman and Senators to call our troops murderers, but it’s not OK to hang a rope from a tree. I don’t like that, of course, but we’re either going to have free speech or we’re not. We can’t selectively decide when we’re going to honor it. Hate speech laws are amongst the worse and the ACLU remains silent. Of course, based upon their agenda, they selectively champion a cause to suit their agenda.

Yes it is, but one has to ask why Harkin would be such a fool to try to criticize Limbaugh for the “phony soldiers” nonsense when Harkin himself is a classic example of the kind of disonesty that Limbaugh was referring to.

I suspect the answer is that to the left (read, “Democrats”) it’s become all about “The Narrative” — repeating the same accusations over and over again in an attempt to bootstrap them into “common knowledge,” and thence into “established fact.”

For all their supposed fear of how America is becoming a “fascist state,” it sure is ironic that the most accomplished practitioners of the Josef Goebbels “Big Lie” technique are the leftists who warn about how we’re becoming a “fascist state.”

Harkin knows damn well that his fellow leftists have already internalized The Narrative that “O’Reilly is a ‘racist’” and “Limbaugh is ‘anti-troop.’” They don’t care that the allegations are false, or that Harkin is himself a proven liar on the subject.

What Harkin must be hoping for is that non-leftists who are uninformed or ill-informed will buy into it too, along the lines of, “They keep saying it, so it must be true.”

A ‘vet’ is short for veteran. Now MY dictionary defines a veteran as a person who has served in a military force. President Bush served in the Air National Guard from May 1968 until October 1973. President Bush is a veteran.

The difference between Rep. Harkin and President Bush is that President Bush (to my knowledge) has never embellished his military record to make himself out to be a great hero. Rep. Harkin, on the other hand, has done so.

Let us all give thanks for small favors such as this….this otherwise inconsequential incident serves, like others recently,to slowly but inexorably remove the veil of pretense that the Dems in Congress hide behind, and thus their duplicity and perfidy becomes manifest and palpably apparent to any and all….when your enemies are hell bent on cutting their own throats, the kindest thing you can do is hand them a razor and get out of the way

It’s quite comical how some on the left are just clutching at straws to try and paint themselves as patriotic, when they know full well that behind closed doors they despise our men and women in uniform. Why? It’s probably because they live up to a code and defend a definitive good from a definite evil, which stands squarely in opposition to the left’s morally relativistic view of life, which logically ends in an orgy of self aggradizement and gratification.

Actually, I don’t think so. The MoveOn.org ad hit a disapproval rating of 58% with 42% strongly disapproving. Only 23% of Americans approve of that ad. This was a major backlash. Just as there will be a major backlash once people become aware that HARKEN, the man who attacked Limbaugh yesterday is, himself, a PHONY SOLDIER.

People are not going to stop listening to Rush Limbaugh over this. In fact, I suspect his ratings (and ad rates) will rise. Ditto for the other conservative radio talk show hosts. I heard Levin tonight say that he is going to go to Nevada and work against Reid’s reelection when he runs again.

Harkin is now exposed as a phony, and this is something that the media cannot “gatekeep” or “goal tend” from the public. If Fox News doesn’t break the story, then Michelle’s web site (one of the fastest growing and most read sites on the ‘net) ALREADY HAS.

Soros screwed the pooch when his MoveOn.org libeled Petraeus. He screwed the pooch when Media Matters deliberately misquoted Limbaugh. Macranger says that he and others are planing to file complaints against Media Matters for violating 501(c)(3), on the basis of Mark Levin’s comments that Media Matters is Criminal Enterprise and their clear violation of the tax code.

Limbaugh’s apologoy to the troops on behalf of Media Matters was a master stroke.

Only time will tell, but I think that the MoveOn.org Democrats screwed up royally.

My two cents… anyone who has spent any amount of time really listening to Rush would know that he supports the troops.
And by ’support’ I mean the true meaning of support.

Consider this…Who is really going to believe all this tripe? Certainly not Rush listener’s. The loons are cheering at a mirage of “victory.” They’ll try to “drink” this down only to find themselves gagging on the sand.

It’s pathetic to see “adults” conjure up a lie, then actually believe in the creature they conjured up. They think the creature is tame because they brought it to life. Some will never learn that it can’t be tamed, and will eventually turn on it’s master.

Listening to harkin’s remarks that Rush Limbaugh is not permitted to critize the military becaue he never served speaks of hypocracy and reminds me of madam pelosi’s comments to Madam Condolezza Rice about the war because Miss Rice isn’t a mother and can’t understand the nature of maternal sacrifice in sending a child off to the military.

This is going to get uglier and stay that way for awhile. I saw this morning that Media Matters is now claiming that Rush has edited and spliced tape of his broadcast to support his (rightful) claim that he was talking about Jessie MacBeth.

Media Matters, the MoveOn crowd, Soros and most of all the Hildebeast realized they were stepping in it yet again and are now prepared to start telling one and all, who are you going to believe? Me or your lying eyes (ears)?

These people are lower than low. And if we aren’t careful we’re going to have them in complete control of the American political process and American government in about a year and a half.

It troubled me to read that the evangelical right is considering throwing their weight behind a third party candidate if they don’t get an anti-abortion candidate. Speaking for myself - as a Christian - I would beseech any on this site who are thinking this way to re-consider your stance. The events of the past few days simply hammer home the fact that we are faced with other far more pressing issues.

After all, it’s not going to do any good to try to advocate for your cause if it becomes a crime to speak about it. Don’t think it can happen? Then what in the world do you think is going on right now with this assault on Rush?

We have to start considering the far left in this country an enemy just as real as any foreign threat. Otherwise, all may be lost.
