Mocking the bullies of MoveOn.org: Take your cease-and-desist letters and shove ‘em

Over the weekend, I blogged about the plight of t-shirt vendors at Cafe Press who were served cease-and-desist letters by the lawyer thugs at MoveOn.org. With the exception of the LA Times, I have seen no other MSM coverage of MoveOn.org’s bogus copyright infringement threats against the mom-and-pop retailers who have dared to satirize the thin-skinned left-wing mafia.
This story deserves more attention. And the targets of the intimidation campaign deserve your support.
I mentioned that one of the targeted retailers, Parsing Poet at The Polistew Cafe, is selling shirts publicizing MoveOn.org’s efforts to ban his work. He is donating all profits to the National Military Family Association, which sends kids whose parents are deployed to summer camp and helps spouses and children with issues of deployment & school transitions. Parsing Poet would like to send 1,000 kids to camp:
Pitch in: Buy them in every size for every member of your family.
On another front: Answering the call to join the MoveOn.org mockers and bait the group’s bully lawyers, readers and bloggers have sent in a bunch of MoveOn.org photoshops. Here’s the first batch. Like I said over the weekend: Go ahead. Suuuuuue.

Umm, Satire is clearly a fair use exception to the copyright law. Those cease and decist orders arent worth the paper they are written on, kind of like a democrate promise to lower taxes, or provide health care.
They don’t even promise to lower taxes anymore….

As I recall, the old playground taunt to the blubbering bully who’d just received a taste of his own medicine was, “Can’t take it, but you can dish it out.”
The, “Mommy! He hit me back!” whining by Moveon through its lawyers reminds me of the British experiment with “Battlecruisers” in WWI: ships that packed the same caliber main guns as battleships, but with only a fraction of the defensive armor. After their disastrous performance at Jutland, they quickly acquired a bitter nickname:
Eggshells armed with hammers.
And that’s about as good a description of the Moveon thugs and their lawyers as I can think of.
Funny stuff, I like how moveon wants to shove their lies down our throats but if we stand up and fight back they yell for their lawyers. Makes you think of the bully in school that cries when you say something back to him, how entertainingly pathetic.
I think all of them are great, but this one says it for me.
Remember this is the same George Soros that feels no guilt for his role during WW2 helping confiscate property from Jews in the holocaust.

Fasternu 426, this guy is an absolute disgrace but I didn’t know that about him. I’m not surprised though, but I thought he was a child when all that was going on but I’m sure he was ready and willing to help. There is a special place in hell for people like old George, unfortunately the damage he is doing to this country, well anyway.

you have done a great job of leading on this issue. I have taken your cue and posted a piece on my own blog. I think we have an opportunity to show Moveon.org for the bullies that they are. Everyone reading this and reading about it everywhere must mobilize. Post the story on their blog. Put up the pictures and furthermore, go to Moveon.org’s website and email them and let them know that if they are going to sue, they better get out a long list of defendents. The Dems are playing America’s heartstrings (especially day care moms and minorities) like a Stradivarius with kiddie health care marches and organizations like the American Cancer Society’s sly teary-eyed pro-Hillary commercials. If a Dem gets in and once their “fix” is in, our pay checks are screwed for next hundred years. THIS is the message America needs to get a grip on, not silly anti-Soros parodies!

Unamused- Hate is such an overused word to describe the emotions behind the political divisions in this country.
It describes nothing to me.
If a person doesn’t speak like Buddha himself, or the Dalai Lama or Mo’Theresa in reference to ones adversaries, persecutors, or enemies- however one should choose to name them- it’s labeled hate. If one’s rhetoric isn’t stripped down to autonomic language patterns- “nothin but the facts, Ma’am”- or courtroom language, it’s “hate” or it’s “angry”.
MoveOn.org is deemed worthy of contempt by people of character who see it as so. And we who do should be allowed to say it as we see it.
Our motivations are positive. Our impacts are usually decisive. Maybe our steam burns when we are blowing it out- prior to taking action.
Hate? I will leave that for “world leaders” who speak of wiping Israel off the map, or who believe the POTUS is the devil.
Let’s keep things in perspective.

I don’t think these suits are supposed to have legal merit. I think that what the Moveon thugs are counting on is not a win in court, but rather that even the most basic defense against them is a commitment of time and money that most private citizens simply cannot afford. Walking away from the fight becomes the only real option.
Which is why we really need some kind of “loser pays all” tort system to make meritless actions like this too expensive to be worthwhile.

Interesting question for any of you lawyer type folks out there: is it possible to trademark “MorOn.org”?
When moveon.org comes into any subject, you really need to know more about who is behind it, and other equally as nefarious organizations. This is a must read, and this is even more so! This one is just the tip of the iceberg. Where this “god-man” has his mitts, we can expect trouble. Ask the Russians, ask the French…and perhaps even our own falling dollar value.
Why oh WHY doesn’t our Justice Dept. go after this guy? He’s trying to bring down democracy world-wide.
I’m sure this UCLA alumnus will be hired by moveon.org soon enough.

As far as that trademark business they are spouting … that is completely unrelated to a website name …
website names are registered with ICANN … an international organization that grants the right to use a particular name or phrase as a website name worldwide on the internet …
a U.S. trademark has to be formally and legally registered as such with the U.S. government in much the same manner as a patent …
just having a website does not qualify the site name as a trademark …
True, DesertLover, but, from what I have been able to glean through the legalese, a trademark has to be linked with a product or future product. They are selling stuff like t-shirts, hats, hackey sacks, surrender bead, scented cow patties, etc.
Also, I have seen some people say that it is the way it is spelled, ie, italics and positioned right, but, it can be in any font, bold, capitalized, lower case, etc, according to what I read.
And interesting thought occurs: if they claim it is the trademark for all of moveon.org, wouldn’t that join their Civic Action and Political Action groups, putting them in violation of McCain/Feingold?

in addition, according to the internet naming conventions any website using the “.org” top level domain is supposed to be totally non-profit …
so if they are selling any revenue producing items they are in violation of the domain name rules …
