Another GOP presidential debate. Fred debuts. Wake me up when it’s over.
I’m not watching it.
Allahpundit is. Bless him.
If you feel moved enough to tune in and share your thoughts here, bless you, too.
I’m going to clip my nails or something.

…me too
Debate?? We don’t need no stinkin’ debate!!!
I am watching it. Ron Paul comes off as, well, Ron Paul.
A little bleach will get that Ron Paul out quite nicely, Gothguy.
LOL. Tell us how you really feel Michelle!
Wake me when they get someone with “gum balls”.
I was streaming it at work – the constant staff and customer interruptions were the only thing keeping me awake … even my computer kept slipping into “sleep mode”. The sad thing is, this is apparently the best our leadership can do.
I missed the first twenty minutes, did Chris Matthews apologize for being an a$$? Right now they’re on taxes and Rudy is talking about beating President Clinton at a court case.
Fred’s on now & I’m worried.
Rudy and Mitt are talking about tax cutting, and the differences between their plans…Romney is hammering Rudy about the line item veto, and Rudy is hammering away about why the line item veto is constitutional.
Fred’s up with a question about jobs being lost. Fred responds with lowering taxes, opening the markets, decreased regulations.
So far, McCain is coming across as level headed and calm.
Tancreado tries to get his point across, but for some reason, he keeps stumbling on his words. Mitt comes across as very smart about business, intellectual property, etc.
I was hoping for a “play by play” here. I’m at work so cannot watch until the re-broadcast – but I can read…LOL Also, love the quips that come with it.
Still being open as to my primary vote in the Great Republic of Texas (with the exception of the Teddy Kennedy RINO and reminders of Ross Perot)I’m looking and listening to all I can.
Rudy, Ron Paul, and Huckabee are talking and free trade agreements, Dubai ownership in NASDAQ, etc. Mitt’s up…basically same thing.
Fred…scrutinize the deals before making any agreements. Hunter is against these deals, unless reciprocal tariffs are in place. Tancreado basically dittos Hunter’s argument.
Fred looks tired, and he’s not speaking loud enough.
I’d rather get packed full of glass shards than watch these debates…
Break time:
So far in my analysis, Ron Paul is basically being ignored, as is Brownback. Huckabee wasn’t asked many questions either.
Mitt and Rudy had some good point counterpoints with each other. Hunter and Tancreado come across as strong, and for his first debate, Fred is holding his own.
So far, no Chris Matthews ‘gotcha’ moments.
Seantor switchback talks about WMD’s and splitting up Iraq.
Fred’s up…very loud and clear about the war, and *shock*, calls it a globall war with ‘Islamofascism*, as it is.
McCain is for the war, but not the previous plan for it. Ron’s up…’empire’, foreign policy…basically blame America.
Brownback…basically supports the war, says the troops have done a fantastic job…he’s back to separating Iraq into 3 different spheres…notes he has a meeting next week with Joe Biden about it.
Break time for me.
Ron Paul should not be up there. He sounds like a war protester. A military strike is not a declaration of war.
Rudy just slams Ron Paul!!! “Where were you during 9/11??????”
Rudy is pushing nuclear (5:02pm)
Liking him more now.
Will this ever get off the drilling off of Florida subject?
Why do Brownback and Biden think they can force the sovereign nation of Iraq to split itself up into 3 sections … they have NO SAY SO … get a life folks …
It’s time to open up Anwar, start building refineries and reactors.
Mccains answer on the oil question was more comprehensive than other responses
And RP: “That was just 19 thugs”
What an idiot. If that gets me banned – so be it.
Did I just hear Hill & Bill
get called Gomer & Barney?
Ron Paul again comes across as a buffoon…no surprise there…as josetheguerilla wrote…Rudy slams him into the sidewalk.
Questions about fuel, exploration, etc. Nothing really exciting.
Here we go…question to McCain about ‘big oil’ profits…should they pay higher taxes or pursue oil exploration…
Question to Huckabee about ethanol…basic response…energy independence…nice touch about NASCAR.
Nice response from Fred and ‘Goober and Gomer.’
Fred talks about Gomer and Guber.
Mitt on energy — there’s fear, but think of opportunity. Nuclear, and liquified coal. We can be a world leader.
Why in the h*ll is Ron Paul up there? He is coming across as the crazy Uncle that every family has, but really tries to ignore.
Mccain talks about immigration reform. gag.
Comic relief?
Our future will be brighter than our past. Technology, innovation, capital. We need leaders who tell us the truth. I know the business world.
Oops,
Mitt says:
Our future will be brighter than our past. Technology, innovation, capital. We need leaders who tell us the truth. I know the business world.
Romney sounds like he talking on a commercial. I think Freds microphone is too low.
Rudy goes after Hillary again. Chris “I didn’t read the book” Matthews cuts him off.
Does any one else find all the graphics and the sound when the graphic flips annoying?
Tancredo has it right. Stop panderin to special interists.Break time.
Is it just me – or does Brownback remind you of Gilbert Gottfried?
Those squinty eyes and smiles….
And as far as Ron Paul is concerned – I think the rest of the candidates WANT him there – he makes them look better.
On-my-soap-box,
I think you are correct.
Yeah the chiming bells when it pops up “Repubs on the Economy” is sick. I wonder if the candidates hear it, but probably not.
Has anyone mentioned Illegals per chance?
I am not watching, so please fill me in.
Tancredo just did before the break – said we have to stop illegal immigration.
To save social secuiity I propose that we make all Unions foot the bill
Fred doesn’t seem to know when to stop his thought – that’s the way his answers are coming off to me….
He just seems to have ‘run-on’ answers – as if he’s afraid to keep it short and simple.
3rd rail question to Fred…Social Security…response…lower taxes, a greater and stronger economy, private accounts, index it to inflation and not wages…
I cannot wait for a debate with one of these guys and Hillary. She will probably break out into her ebonic accent to keep from crying (‘cept Ron Paul).
Gayle,
It was mentioned briefly, but hasn’t come up as a direct question to the candidates.
Soap Box,either that or her cackle.
Here we go with all the Union talk.
I’ll give him a pass on that…it’s his first debate since 1994 I think.
As one who does a lot of public speaking for my job, I have gotten a little rusty and unsure when I haven’t done it for a while.
Yep, I was on a union job once. They tried to kick us Americans off the job and INS came in with 2 busses and took away over 100 illegal’s with union cards. I am not a union fan.
A union question from Chris matthews. Decent answer from Mccain. Romney won’t mention bad Unions. Matthews whant rudy to sing. What kinda crap is that?
Ron Paul is to the Republicans as Al Sharpton was to the Dhimmicrats last time around.
The whole crowd makes me tired.
I heard today from Melanie Morgan that Chris Matthews coined the infamous Carter concept of “malaise in America” back in the day.
Horse apple.
Is MSNBC a Union? Tancredo says yo momma!!!
Welcome Bear!
Gothguy – I understand where you’re coming from – but we’re talking about a Presidential Candidate and an accomplished actor!
I know it’s new for him, but somebody needs to help him prepare better.
I also speak for a living – but I’m not on National / International TV running for President.
Fred just b*tch slapped Chris Matthews when Matthews stated that Fred should have stopped at ‘no’ when asked if the government should step in on the General Motors strike!
Nice comment by Fred. Gives a short “no” intially – then expands on his answer….then Matthews ‘jokes’ that he should have just stopped at “No”.
Fred tells Matthews, “No one asked for your opinion, Christopher.”
Matthews is momentarily dumbfounded – you KNOW he wanted to snap back…
HAH!
HEY BEAR!
I tried your “Bear Mush” – not bad… I don’t know if I can ‘snack’ on it all day long….
Takes some getting used to… lol.
jrlingreenbay,
Trust me…I know what you are talking about, but I don’t see it as such a big deal for his first debate.
Now, if Fred was coming across as a blathering idiot, that would be one thing, but so far, in my opinion, he is holding his own.
“No one asked for your opinion, Christopher.” quote of the week!!!!!
I am going to take punishment for this but, I think Chrissy is doing a pretty good job. He is a tool but I think – for the most part – he has left the stupid in the tool box.
Fire away!
Opps – spoke too soon on Chrissy!
I’ll interject off-topic here for just a moment, if our kind hostess doesn’t mind:
There is now a yahoo group devoted to regular posters here – somewhere where we can wander off onto any topic – share stories – ideas – personal stuff ( like Bear’s Recipes ) or whatever.

Note: This is NOT an official MM site – just something we ‘regular people’ decided to do.
Mitt on Arab-Americans feeling bias.
We welcome people. But we’ll pursue those who preach hate into a mosque if necessary. We don’t discriminate.
Brownback is stumbling and bumbling on the question about his choice for an economic adviser…his deer in the headlight look was very telling…
Ron Paul is getting laughed at!!!
Ron Paul is spouting asinine comments again.
Paul & Tancredo won’t necessarily support the Repub nominee. Brownback will. Hunter will.
Ron Paul … I can’t stand to even look at this idiot … why the hell isn’t he a democrap … ?
Romney had been waiting all day for that shot … but Fred came back at him …
Chris Matthews tries a ‘gotcha’ question with Fred about who is the Prime Minister of Canada…gee..where have we heard that kind of question before???
Romney keeps coming across as a commercial, except for his quip to Fred.
end of dog and poney show.
Fred’s quick with the combacks. I’ll give him that.
Okay Michelle – time to wake up!
I’ll watch when it’s actually a debate, and not 10 guys up there trying to out-sound-bite each other.
Debate is over. Fred had a funny closing statement.
In my opinion, the winners were Rudy, Fred, Mitt, and Hunter.
And for the record, I am a Thompson supporter, but that does not mean if he failed to perform in this debate, I would not have said so.
Someone nudge Michelle – she’s drooling.
Oops, forgot…
IMHO…this was not a debate, but a sound bite fest, much like all the others. I would have much rather have seen a real debate, but such is the politics now.
Michelle,
Wakey-wakey…:)
The real debate will start when Dinocraps square off with Republicans. Then, the people will see dimocraps for who they really are – I hope.
That’s hardly a newsflash, Soap!
Hmmm…wouldn’t a “cage match” be interesting? Having the whole lot of the D & R candidates debate each other in one venue?
Would save a lotta time, too, in seperating the wheat from the chaff.
I clipped both toenails and fingernails last night. Now, what am I gonna do?
Too bad I missed it a rough day a work today. I did catch some of the analysis on Fox News and it sounded like I was better off being stressed out about fiscal year 2008 issues instead. I just don’t see a rock solid aggressive conservative in the top tier. I really feel Duncan Hunter is that guy, but it is like the MSM and RNC are out to marginalize him as much as possible. More than likely his tough stand on defending our national borders and properly dealing with illegal invaders is considered bad for big business.
If someone in the Republican party does not take a strong stand against illegals taking over our country, I will not vote.
What difference will it make in a few years if the illegals takeover OUR rights and rule OUR land?
Gayle,
Heard someone on the radio today (not sure if it was Laura or Rush) talking about the illegals being the biggest advantage group because they’ll talk to their legal relatives and tell them who to vote for. The person actually called them militant illegals. I’m sorry I can’t remember who said it, I was driving around to three different doctor appts. today.
We’ve got to do something about this invasion. I don’t understand what part of illegal isn’t getting through the thick heads in Washington. Did take time out of my day to call the White House about the Texas case got a “we’re part of the world court” garbage answer but told them I am sick of illegals getting all the rights and the citizens getting the shaft.
I watched the last hour.
I’m a Mitt supporter, but I think Rudy came out on top.
Rudy was forceful, articulate, specific
Mitt seemed stiff as usual, too general, and not very forceful…I still think he has the best ideas and executive experience
McCain seemed old and over the hill
Ron Paul…I agree with him on a few issues, but I disagree with him on some important issues….I would never vote for him as President….he scares the hell out of me…he’s not Presidential material
Fred didn’t impress me at all…he’s over rated in the polls
No home run for Fred. But definitely a solid double.
He did better than just about everyone thought he would and gave it back to Matthews a couple of times.
Rudy looked good. Romney beginning to look desperate. McCain appeared lost at times.
I guess they all avoided that sore subject. They may have to actually speak the truth and that is not something WE want to hear.
They know it too.
I am sick to death of illegals.
My best friend works for Social Services…..guess which “group” of women are applying for more “free” benefits than any other????
Illegals? nope
Blacks? nope
Whites? nope
Muslims? Yes.
If that doesn’t TICK me OFF!
I’ve never even seen but a few in this town and they are doctors……geesh?
Where are they hiding?
Ya, I agree with Michelle about debate #27.
But, if anyone wants to take gander at a little myspace page I started today to draft Savage, add me!
I called the White House comment line about the Texas illegal alien murderer case also. They listened to me, and of course said they would “see that the President got my comments”. You actually talked to someone who wanted to discuss the issue?
aj charging defibrillator.
Someone tell me again, why they’re debating now when we won’t be voting for a year? Cuz, that’s never made any sense to me. We need a constitutional ammendment-election campaigns can last 3 months, tops.
I don’t have anything constructive to say about the debate but I do agree with DanMe about Fred. My pet name for him is Paint. He’s about as exciting as watching paint dry. The whole thing did not stop me from cutting a 30 minute nap at the end so I missed Romney mention my favorite subject, liquid coal. The answer to our energy need from which the refinery profits could provide free higher education to those who so qualify, paid up retirement for all, and a major export to balance our foreign trade. What ever candidate catches this start is an easy presidential winner (yup, Hillary can be beat!).
A Silver Bullet for our energy needs:
Zzzzzzzznraochk!
Huh? What? Did I miss something? Sorry. Forgot to put my C-PAP breathing machine on. No more snoring. SSSSSSsssssss…….
Maybe I’m just old-fashioned, but i’ll tune in the debate every time, because at least for me, it helps me get a more comfortable feeling (or uncomfortable) about who really stands for what, and that’s important.
So far, it’s okay… a few flare-ups, people getting prickly, showing their true colors on some issues.
Fred is offering folksy generalizations, no fire at dangerous times when fire is absolutely necessary.
Most others are looking better and better, except McCain who is dropping like a rock.
Tivo is your friend on these debates.
I do give Fred the best line when Chris told him he should have stopped at no on an answer and he shot back with “that is your opinion” Chris looked a little take back after that slap down. I just wish more of them hammered back at the questioners with some of the rediculous pushing and follow up they did in questions when they didn’t get the answer they were hoping for.
