Pete Coors lost to Ken Salazar in the last Senate race, unfortunately. He is very conservative. A lot of people were convinced that Ken was a good ol' local boy and a moderate. He's proven to be anything but.

Golden is just down the road from Boulder, but is very much the old-fashioned small town. Boulder is our own little piece of San Fran - ugh. I drive by the plant several times a day while taking my son to school at Golden High. My eldest son works at CoorsTek, a sometimes subsidiary of Coors still run by a Coors family member.

Coors (and CoorsTek) is a good company that treats it's employees well. Since the boycott, they have developed a huge pot of diversity programs, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

That doesn't mean they would sponsor something like the Folsom Fest, I hope not. They do sponsor a lot of gay pride fests, but those seem to be more family-oriented events, not of the San Fran variety. I know Denver's gay pride fest is pretty tame, just a lot of rainbows and 5K runs. The peversion at Folsom Fest would never be tolerated here.

As for their beer, my husband does enjoy a Blue Moon now and then as well as other craft beers. Colorado is the microbrew capital of the US so there's no reason to drink any big brand beer.

On October 9th, 2007 at 12:02 pm, Kendra said:
According to my Miller distributor this morning, they haven’t heard anything about merging with Coors.
Now just because a sales rep doesn’t know doesn’t mean it is or isn’t true but I’d dig deeper to find out.
It certainly isn’t a done deal or even very imminent or I’m sure we’d know considering we deal with the distributors every week. - Certainly surprising to read.

I work for a Budweiser distributor, and heard about it as soon as I got to work. I'm not sure if our drivers or merchandisers know yet, but sales and management sure know.

Dakine,
I don't think it's a good mix with Coors and Miller. I think they may have some shareholders who feel that it's not the best company to merge with. I remember in 1976, our family traveled to the West while everyone went East. My dad got so many orders for Coors (at that time they didn't sell in NW Indiana) that he had to tell people he wouldn't have enough room in the car for the family and our massive amounts of luggage (well me and my mom). It was really a big deal when you could finally get it in IN.
There are a lot of people on the left that I know who do make it a point to boycott anyone who advertises on Rush or Hannity. They think they're doing their civic duty. I can't imagine though that I will ever buy Coors again myself (the thrill being gone of not being able to get it in this part of the country) and I like Bud Light and Smithwick's from Ireland much better.

dread pirate,

If the FBI comes calling tell them to call me. My email made yours look like child's homework assignment.

I would love to have the FBI explain to me how anything in an email violates the law. I will win that battle.

ajmontana, Boulder = very liberal; Golden = not so much, so not sure how any of it fits together at all. "Bite me"? Really? Wow.

Vince, stick to the day job my man, and your comment kind of helps make my point.

Hey, didn't Mary Cheney work for Coors? She was a public relations manager and acted as a gay and lesbian outreach coordinator, helping to end a national gay boycott of Coors. Maybe she brokered the deal between the two.

ajmontana,
Just let dakine know that you have a concealed carry permit and the will make him "feel uneasy".
See yesterday's posts on the pistol packing teacher.

Well, I haven't had Miller products in about a year since the illegal immigrants thing. I don't tend to drink Coors unless a friend happens to offer me one, but I do like Molson, occasionally Killians and have been frequenting the Blue Moon pumpkin beer tap lately at a few of my regular haunts. Looks like, given the choices around here, it's back to Amber Bock draft or Sam Adams bottles.

Us low carb fans will continue to stick with Michelob Ultra Amber. We banned Miller from the house last week and this week Coors will follow. Too bad!
