The Czech president speaks some truly inconvenient truths:
Czech President Vaclav Klaus, a rare vocal global- warming sceptic among heads of state, is “somewhat surprised” that former US vice president Al Gore received the Nobel Peace Prize, the president’s spokesman Petr Hajek said in a statement.
“The relationship between his activities and world peace is unclear and indistinct,” the statement said. “It rather seems that Gore’s doubting of basic cornerstones of the current civilization does not contribute to peace.”
Klaus said in a recent speech that environmentalists’ efforts to halt global warming “fatally endanger our freedom and prosperity.”
The Czech president publicly expresses doubt on what scientists, including those participating in the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, also this year’s Nobel Peace Prize laureate, deem very likely - that global warming is caused by humans.
He also said that rising temperatures may not matter enough for governments to throw funds at halting the process.
In a newspaper interview earlier this year, Klaus said that only Al Gore, and not a sane person, would say that mankind is ruining the planet.

Former Vice President Al Gore and the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change jointly won the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize Friday for their efforts to spread awareness of man-made climate change and to lay the foundations for fighting it.
Gore, who won an Academy Award earlier this year for his film on global warming, “An Inconvenient Truth,” had been widely tipped to win the prize.
He said that global warming was not a political issue but a worldwide crisis.
“We face a true planetary emergency. … It is a moral and spiritual challenge to all of humanity,” he said. “It is also our greatest opportunity to lift global consciousness to a higher level.”
The win is also likely add further fuel to a burgeoning movement in the United States for Gore to run for president in 2008, which he has so far said he does not plan to do.
The Nobel Peace Prize citation is here, extolling the IPCC and Gore “for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change.”

Well, the Big Reveal will take place on Friday, and Gore has canceled on a Babs Boxer fundraiser to travel overseas for the announcement. (Update: Or not? HT - HAHeadlines)
No doubt he’s already purchased carbon offsets for the trip…if he does indeed win the prize.

The 2007 Nobel Peace Prize will be given out very early tomorrow (Friday) morning (early New York time, that is). If I wake up next morning and learn he’s won, I’m gonna hurl. It will be good preparation for me the day in November 2008 that Hillary is elected President. May a lightning bolt strike me dead. Howard Zinn -> Marian Wright Edelman -> Hillary Rodham. There’s an arc for ya. Compare to Ira Einhorn -> The Unabomber -> Al Gore.
Please remember that the Peace Prize is handed out by the Norwegians. All other Nobel Prizes are handed out by the Swedes. Norway was a swedish colony at my great ancestor Nobel’s time.
Al Gore, Jimmy Carter and Yassir Arafat…I would sooner give a Nobel Peace Prize to Kukla, Fran and Ollie.
Maybe Al Gore should win so that more people would realize how truly worthless this award actually is. According to “South Park,” they now even have an award for a guy who takes the biggest (redacted).

The Nobel Peace Prize has long been overrated, while the Literature Prize has a century-plus history of rewarding mediocrities. My interest is in the science prizes, which honor worthies nearly all the time, with this year being no exception.

I am an environmental scientist, and I do not like what Al Gore is doing. His new movie has some inaccurate information and he isn’t helping the global warming cause by putting out false info just so he can get back to leading democrat politics. Liberals who do this kind of nonsense only make my job harder because the scrutiny becomes even greater, and it SHOULD. False information should not be tolerated in the scientific community whether it’s Bush Administration pressuring scientists or Al Gore narrating lies.
If I put out the same information Al Gore did and lived the same lifestyle, I would become the laughing stalk of my field. Yep, not even a hug from Leonardo DiCaprio.

KOFI ANNAN, for being duplictious, and for insuring that his son personally profited from the “Oil for Food” program

MIKHAIL SERGEYEVICH GORBACHEV, Not because he didn’t deserve it, but because the award SHOULD HAVE GONE TO RONALD REAGAN or been jointly shared with him.
THE UNITED NATIONS PEACE-KEEPING FORCES, for being organized rapists and worse, in Africa, and for refusing to intervene and allowing the genocides in Srebrenica, and Rwanda.
LE DUC THO, for being a Party official of the government of North Vietnam, which started the Vietnam War, and which later VIOLATED the Paris Peace Accords by invading and conquering South Vietnam.
All of the above winners of the Peace Prize (with the exception of Gorbachev) should be stripped of the prize and the moneies that accompanied it.

At the risk of sounding like a predictable anti-liberal, I must say I’m very surprised ANYONE would be awarded a Nobel Peace Prize for putting out a documentary on global warming and for taking up the environment as a social cause. While I absolutely believe we could all do more to care for our earth, it’s not exactly mind-blowing that Gore gives speeches about driving hybrids and recycling. It seems extremely simplistic, unwarranted and needless to me for him to be singled out this way. Especially in light of the other nominations that Gore beat out for this prize, including a woman who hid Jewish children during the Holocaust. Ah yes, only in today’s confused and backwards world could eradicating gas emissions trump saving helpless Jewish children. I just can’t see how what Al Gore has done merits such a noble and esteemed reward as the NOBEL PEACE PRIZE. Ya know, the same prize that scientists, literary giants and Mother Teresa have won.
My thoughts - I do believe global warming is a problem which has certainly been exacerbated by Humans.
What I don’t like is the almost cult-like belief that you are not allowed to question all of the science behind it.
I also think Al Gore has no room to talk with the amount of private plane travel and SUV driving he does on a weekly basis.
And as for his home….
A 20-room mansion heated by natural gas. Add a pool, a pool house and a separate guest house, all heated by gas, and in one month alone, this mansion consumes more energy than the average American household does in an entire year. The average bill for electricity and natural gas runs over $2,400 per month. In natural gas alone, this property consumes more than 20 times the national average for an American home. This house is not in a Northern or Midwestern snow belt, either. It is in the South.
Bush, for all his failings, should really promote this fact more if you ask me…

The original purpose of the peace prize was to give it “to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between the nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses”.

Really who cares? Liberals give eachother prizes to validate their stupidity that can’t be backed up with facts. It makes them feel better about themselves. Kofi Annan won the Nobel Prize for crying out loud; a man who took bribes from Saddam Hussein. Bribes that were comprised of money that was to go toward feeding the Iraqi people - so there’s your Nobel Prize for ya. Apparantly all you have to do to win a Nobel Prize is: Diss Bush, Diss Jews or take food out of the mouths of starving children. As far as I’m concerned, it’s no different than the Academy Award. Will the Bush’s get even nominated for a Nobel Prize for all the good they’ve done for the AIDS crisis in Africa? I doubt it. No one even knows about what Mr. Bush has done, really. The only reason I know about it is because my family has a charity that goes toward helping children who are victims of the AIDS crisis in Africa. I can tell you personally that George Bush has helped our cause there tremendously ~ but he will never get the credit for it. No, instead some dip who whips the world into a frenzy over the earth getting 2 degrees warmer does.

When I saw this, I felt sick, and lost ALL respect for the Nobel Peace Prize committee. The committee has just made this award, formerly prestigious, worthless (apart from the money). No longer shall the award mean anything to me, and I’ll ignore the Nobel Peace Prize for its past worthy recipients–they won’t need such confirmation anyway.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. ….The only reason Gore was even pushing so hard to win this award is so he can charge even more money for his speaking engagements. A vice president earns x amount of dollars while a vice president who has won the Nobel Peace prize gets x+y amount of dollars. Thats why he has spent millions of dollars and “carbon credits” jetting off to Europe to petition himself for this prize. Its rather sick.
Notice that global warming has yet to generate any Nobel science prizes. Apparently, the Swedish Academy is more grounded than the Norwegian parliament.
Accordingly, I would hereby like to honor the science winners.
The medicine prize went to Mario Capecchi and Oliver Smithies of the U.S., immigrants respectively from Italy and England, and Sir Martin Evans of Wales for developing techniques for altering mouse genes in the labratory in order to replicate human conditions, such as hardened arteries and diabetes, for further medical research. (I’m sure this must have the PETA people grinding their molars!)
The physics prize went to Albert Fert of France and Peter Gruenberg of Germany for discovering independently of each other the principle of giant magnetoresistance, which is what has led to ever-shrinking hard drives storing ever-expanding volumes of data.
The chemistry prize went to Gerhard Ertl of Germany for discoveries concerning chemical reactions on solid surfaces. According to press releases, these discoveries are behind the technology leading to the development of fuel cells that will in the future replace fossil fuels.
In all, worthy awards.

Just got off the cell phone with my “grapevine” sister who reports already at several primary schools and junior highs in Queens and Nassau County teachers are heralding Gore’s “contribution to peace” in the classroom as the best chance for them to survive on earth. Is there no way to legally counter this bilge if the younger generation really believes the peace prize is now an honorable and respectable title and any opponents are anti-green “ignorant bigots” as some teachers actually suggest?
Watch for Gore’s effect on educational TV folks!

I can’t wait until I get the day off from work for “Global Warming Awareness Day.” I live in CA and just worked through Columbus Day, heaven forbid we actually observe a federal holiday. I’m sure we’ll have no problem taking off this new day in honor of the Goracle. What a joke.
If the Goal of the Noble organization was to try to destory all credibility they have they succeeded.

People are shouting for him to run for President but there is no way he will because he is making Millions now with is scam company.
While I am pretty much a die-hard conservative on every other issue, I have to say that after reading documents from both sides of the dispute, I tend to agree with the IPCC.
As far as I know, I’m the only conservative republican that actually believes in Climate change caused by humans. We can get together in 30 years and see who was wrong. Until then, I won’t argue about it, since pretty much everyone already has their minds made up, and you won’t change my mind.
It’s lonely out here….
Btw, I work in a coal fired power plant, and spent the last 15 to 20 years on the road visiting other industrial plants around the country (not just power plants). I know what gets dumped into the air.
All that being said…I can’t stand Al Gore either. As Bill O. says, he’s a ‘Bloviating’ hypocritical windbag.
